Deathloop Review | TechRaptor

Arkane Lyon's newest stealth shooter, Deathloop, misses its mark on what made games like Dishonored so special.

Save everyone the time. Clickbait. Don’t waste your time.

TheDoomedGuy1696d ago

Thank you.

I love dishonored. But a new IP doesn't have to be another dishonored so i don't care what makes dishonored special. Death loop is not dishonored.

JayRyu1696d ago

Thank you for saving my time! Much appreciated 😁

GameZenith1696d ago

But why? Because it offers an OPINION that differs from the herd?

n1kki61696d ago (Edited 1696d ago )

Why because you disagree? Have you played it yourself? You understand reviews are just opinions of games. I for one enjoy reading a review where someone isn't as fond of the game. Not every game appeals to every person.

If you read the review there are several valid criticisms. I wasn't going to buy the game but preorded this morning based on the positive reviews. I'm curious if I will feel the same as this reviewer or someone else.

KillBill1696d ago

"Deathloop's failure to deliver on its promise of continuing Arkane's gameplay philosophy by missing the mark on the precedent of freedom laid down by previous titles." - because the premise of their review is that it wasn't the same type of game we have gotten previously from Arkane. That is literally how lame the review is. They don't like it because they feel it should have followed same precedence as previous titles.

TricksterArrow1696d ago

@KillBill I hate it when reviewers review a game or a movie or a TV Show based on what they wanted it to be rather than what it actually is and aims to be. It sounds so pretentious. "This is just a brainless action movie with nothing to say" - some pompous movie critic about John Wick. Well no s***, Sherlock, it's like you watched the movie without reading the synopsis.

-Hermit-1696d ago

The reviewers opinion means more than yours, at least they have played it.

There's one in every family, sire. TWO in mine, actually. And they always manage to ruin special occasions.

Fuzzybacon1696d ago

the ZaZu reference is icing on the cake

senorfartcushion1696d ago

Special occasion? It’s a review. They don’t take fanboy feelings into account.

It’s a game launch, not someone’s retirement party, take it down a notch, it’s embarrassing. 😅😅😅

LoveSpuds1696d ago

It's a quote chief, pretty funny to be fair.

senorfartcushion1696d ago

Yeah I know it’s a quote. It he words chosen have some truth to the person who used it. It really is a special occasion to sad people.

GhostofHorizon1696d ago

This isn't Dishonored 3 and reviewing it as such shows poor understanding on the side of the reviewer.

coolbeans1696d ago

Having gone through it, that's not what substantiates his complaints. You're relying on a brief description and the first comment to jump to those conclusions.

GhostofHorizon1696d ago (Edited 1696d ago )

"If you haven't played an Arkane game before, Deathloop mi ght be more fun than you expect, but if you have, then you'll probably be left wanting much, much more."

Game should be reviewed on it's own, it's a new IP.

It almost sounds as if they would have given it a higher score if it wasn't an Arkane game.

coolbeans1696d ago

But now you're shifting the argument to something else.

-"Game should be reviewed on it's own, it's a new IP."

I don't get why I see this is so commonly thrown around. What does "on its own" mean in this context? Should 8th/9th gen expectations with respect to game feel, controls, etc. apply for new IPs too? Similarly, if you're a creative team who's made a staple in 1st-person "immersive sim" shooters, why is it unfair to see where it creatively falters compared to past works that it's clearly emulating?

On top of all this, just grabbing another convenient sentence doesn't mean your initial bad faith assessment is justified. There's literally itemized complaints purely about the gameplay & game design.

Lord_Sloth1696d ago (Edited 1696d ago )

"Game should be reviewed on it's own, it's a new IP.

It almost sounds as if they would have given it a higher score if it wasn't an Arkane game."
==============
It may be a new IP but that doesn't mean it can't share the same flaws and issues. Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors for example. If you've never played them you may have a blast with them, but if you've played multiples of either then it could feel a bit stale. Just an example. I'm not hating on either game as a longtime fan of several Warriors titles.

If Deathloop feels the same as Dishonored even though it's a "new IP" than it can still suffer in the eyes of somebody who played through both of those games, or who may not have cared for them to begin with.

masterfox1696d ago

Why even mentioned dishonored?, it has nothing to do with it, here I can do the same: "Street Fighter V game misses the mark what makes games like Mortal Kombat so special",see it doesnt make any freaking sense just like this article title.

jznrpg1696d ago

This isn’t Dishonored . I am not saying the review is bad but it really annoys me when journos or people compare a new game to a game the company previously made. It is stupid to me . If they were making Dishonored it would be called Dishonored. This is clearly not suppose to be Dishonored .

Shiore2u1696d ago

Probably because it plays a lot like Dishonored.

jznrpg1696d ago (Edited 1696d ago )

Like Dishonored but it isn’t Dishonored . The gameplay looks similar but the entire premise of the game is different . I have no issue with the score , it doesn’t look like a 10/10 to me but I’ll check it out at some point .
