**Sigh**

I like my Wii.. But the last thing I want is my Xbox to be transformed into a Wii Clone.. Talk about losing hardcore fan base..

bgrundman6408d ago

I don't know, I think the NXE is a step towards making the Xbox into the next Wii. It drives me nuts, but I can see it happening.

Neco5126408d ago

That would be a terrible thing if it were to happen

CrAppleton6408d ago

What's next? The WiiStation? The PS3 already copied the motion control..

bgrundman6408d ago

I have seen those videos online. It is pretty scary how everyone is now trying to get a piece of the Wii pie. This is after they mocked it before launch.

Neco5126408d ago

sixaxis control is just a cheap knock off of the wii remote

PotNoodle6408d ago

Nintendo didn't invent motion control.

killyourfm6408d ago

Nintendo did NOT invent motion control, but they excel at honing and perfecting the user experience, much like Apple. You have to give them credit for that.

The thing is about abandoning hardcore gamers, is that the industry is ignoring the customer base that started the game industry...

bgrundman6408d ago

Are they really abandoning us though? I would like to see it as more of an expansion to the market.

CrAppleton6408d ago

EXACTLY! It would be like someone giving you a million dollars.. then going broke.. and when they ask you for 20 bucks you tell them to f*ck off.. lol.. I think that's kind of what Nintendo did.. Don't get me wrong.. I love my Wii.. but Nintendo has pushed the hardcore, Mario dressing fans aside.

bgrundman6408d ago

That seems a bit harsh if you ask me... it looks like they are being pretty successful with whatever they try to do.

JimmyJames706408d ago

@Grundman: maybe "abandoning" is a strong word, but the emphasis is going away, which actually might be a good thing. Instead of the market being flooded with mediocre hardcore games, there might be a trickle of excellent hardcore games, which is a very, very good thing.

Neco5126408d ago

If they can make the hardcore games still then i suppose it would be ok

CrAppleton6408d ago

A bit harsh? Sure.. But so is what Nintendo has done. They've flooded the market with a ton of crap that most gamers just don't want.. This is why I have a ton of games between my PS3 and Xbox360, yet only a handful on my Wii.. There just aren't enough good games for it..

steveg25646408d ago

It's kind of like being an only child and then your parents have another baby. All of a sudden you have to share their attention with your new sibling. You're not being abandoned, you're being shared. That's just the way it is.

The gaming industry was actually very casual even in the early days.. Sure most people did not play every game but people off all ages played Pacman, Digdug,Space invaders, Asteroids, etc. My grandmother loved Frogger. I dont understand why some people just assume that games have always been for the hardcore when that's just not the case. The only reason I can think of is because you are too young to know what it was like back then. There were certain games back then that every one was playing.Regardless of age, profession, sex.
@crapleton, You do understand that 90% of the games you claim are hurting the industry are also available on the PS2? Why is it ok for Sony to allow those games but it isnt ok for Nintendo to allow those games... It really makes no sense at all. If those types of games bothered you why are you a PS gamer? The PS1 and PS2 libraries are full of complete garbage just like the Wii is. They didnt seem to hurt the industry as you claim Nintendo is doing..

Mahr6407d ago

"EXACTLY! It would be like someone giving you a million dollars.. then going broke.. and when they ask you for 20 bucks you tell them to f*ck off"

That comparison is not apt: No one simply "gives" money to companies. Transactions are *always* a two-way street.

A more valid illustration would be someone giving you a million dollars, and in return you give them a million dollars worth of videogames.

Nintendo is under no obligation to give them a million dollars worth of videogames *and* twenty dollars to boot.

"They've flooded the market with a ton of crap that most gamers just don't want.."

Um, how does a product sell well if people don't want it?

I think that the new interoperability with the internet is nothing new. Bungie.net has been doing it for years...

bgrundman6408d ago

Which platform is going to see the most growth in the area of casual games, Xbox 360, PS3 or iPhone? Wii isn't even up for discussion because they have a corner on that market.

CrAppleton6408d ago

For sure I would have to say the iPhone

bgrundman6408d ago

Why do you guys say iPhone? I would have figured one of the consoles because of the existing install base.

JimmyJames706408d ago

It's going to be the iPhone. I think we've only seen the tip of the iceberg of what is to come with the iPhone. It's probably *the* mobile gaming platform of the future.

Why the Wii is Such a Nostalgic System in 2026

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg64d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree64d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai63d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde65d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy65d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

DivineHand12565d ago (Edited 65d ago )

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
