Intel Introduces New High-Performance Graphics Brand: Intel Arc

The new graphics brand will cover hardware, software and services. The first silicon will appear in products in the first quarter of 2022, in both mobile and desktop form factors.

Hopefully they're better than the Intel Xe cards Linus tested a year or two ago. From what I remember they were pretty terrible performance-wise.

fr0sty1729d ago

I'm skeptical, but I welcome this with open arms at the same time.

I'm keeping my eye on Intel Arc and Intel Alderlake

JackBNimble1729d ago

Why, do you really think they can compete against nvidia or even AMD?
I mean they've even fallen behind with their cpu's, I think there's a lot of beta testing need before I would at Intel for a gpu.

CaptainHenry9161729d ago (Edited 1729d ago )

Absolutely. Alderlake is already outperforming the most powerful Ryzen cpu from the leaks. Zen 4 won't be out until Fall 2022 to compete but by that time Intel will bring out the Raptorlake. Competition is coming back. I don't think AMD can compete with nVidia in performance but definitely in lower price

They can't compete with AMD or Nvidia in GPU though. Not yet anyway

Smellsforfree1729d ago

High-Performance Intel Graphics is an oxymoron, but I wish it wasn't. We could really use more option than nVidia and AMD which it comes to high end graphics, so I'm rooting for them.

Tapani1729d ago

I hope they get their performance at least to the RTX 3070/6700XT level so that we get good competition in the 1440p space. If their RT is faster than RDNA2.0, that would probably push AMD more and more towards compute and ML which could benefit gamers and creators alike. It actually might be a good move from Nvidia to combine gaming and creator GPUs into one, in retrospective.

kryteris1729d ago

Somebody needs to, traditionally that has been on AMD, but all of a sudden they think that Nvidia's pricing works for them too.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing11d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
