Microsoft Flight Simulator Review | TheXboxHub

Kaan writes: "Like any hardcore simulation game, Microsoft Flight Simulator is simply not made for everyone. The lengths to which the game goes to accurately recreate cockpits, dials, and the general controls of aircraft is astonishing and this commitment to realism will hook aircraft buffs. But outside of some occasional digital tourism, more casual pilots might not have much to latch onto here."

As a simulator this is the cream of the crop. Farming simulator, train simulator, bus simulator and so forth are great time wasters, but there’s something about flying over places you know that makes you a little giddy. The detail in train simulators trains were next level until now. Or a year ago. Whenever flight simulator released on PC… regardless, it’s been topped. Admittedly I was a little let down coming by my house because whatever data they are using is a few years old for my area. So much of that stuff has been gone for a while. Flying by my job however and my wife’s job was pretty awesome….. until I rammed my plane into the front door and it didn’t explode into a pillar of flames. No joke though, flying over freeways and places you drive by all the time just hits different. And that night view? *swoon* Not going to lie though, like all simulators for me, it does pretty quickly after some of the novelty wears off and you’ve seen the places you want to see. I’m sure hardcore simulator players fly daily. I’m a gamer and I have wayyyy too much to play and work wayyyy too much to be flying around for hours a day.

As a simulator it can’t be compared to the likes of “games”. This isn’t a game. It’s far less to “animate” and show. A lot can be poured into the planes details and the environment as it looks great from far away (and that’s a understatement) but like a kids scribble from up close.Games have to make EVERYTHING look good because everything matters. You’re close to it all as the player. So all that plane detail and draw distance has to be divvied up to make a cohesive experience in games. I only bring this up because it’s funny to see a lot of people compare a simulator to a game. Totally different focuses. You can’t rate this as a game. It can only be rated as a simulator and as a simulator I don’t see how it can get under a 4 on series X or PC. If it was smoother on my series X I couldn’t see it getting under a 5. It’s as good as it gets.

Aaaanyway, it does make my expectations of the next Ace combat go up. Although it’s a game, not a simulator, it’s still air based. I’m expecting similar graphics but the power saved on not having to render the entire cockpit to be used on enemy planes (which won’t need to be fully detailed because they move too fast anyway except in middle follow or photo mode) and special effects from combat. Namco, please deliver!
