Hasnt anyone ever heard of Hardware coexisting? Computer Mfg, TV Mfg., Radio Mfg's ALL DO IT. Some are more expensive and sell less.... some are made like sh!t, sold dirt cheap and sell more... and they all survive.

this only came about again because someone said microsoft has to bring out another console to keep up with ps3 but if you look at the wii, why would xbox360 pull out. the wii and xbox360 are two very ghay consoles to own & obviously there are more homos in the world than hardcore gamers.

PS3 owners have a lot to look forward to, because Sony and their partners have divulged info on a lot of the projects they have in the pipeline for 2009.

inexplicably, the Wii is going to continue to sell gobs of consoles, despite the overall mediocrity of the shovelware being put on the system, barring some Nintendo stalwarts like the Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games, which ALWAYS scream quality. the few actually worthwhile 3rd party games (ie, Mad World), will continue to be ignored by the Wii userbase, as always. *sigh*

the 360 will do the same as it's been doing for the past 3 years. 360 owners don't have much to get hyped up about for now, because Microsoft has kept any potential projects VERY close to the vest.

we are uncertain about the releases of games like Huxley and Alan Wake (i can't wait for Alan Wake, personally; i love adventure games with an emphasis on story). Microsoft also only owns roughly 7 1st and 2nd party dev studios, so there are only so many exclusives that can be released a year, unless they are 3rd party exclusives (like Star Ocean 4). the problem with relying too much on third parties, is that they can take their title WHEREVER they want, because THEY own them, not Microsoft (see, Bioshock, Eternal Sonata, Lost Planet, and other former 360 exclusives from 3rd parties).

even so, all 3 consoles will do well for themselves. i personally don't care who comes out on top as long as i get to play some excellent video games in the process.

2009 is looking to ECLIPSE 2008 in terms of quality games, and that's saying a LOT since this year has one of the best gaming lineups of all time, and i'm still reeling from it, and trying to catch up on everything i've missed.

No, it has done really well to this day, but I do hope that Ps3 and X360 would get to this head to head battle with only minimal difference in sales. This would seriously be great for us gamers who would enjoy even more good games because of constantly increasing competition.

Dunno about microsoft but atleast sony has gotten the long waited spike in their ass to make quality game after quality game and improve the psn service.
Just looking back at the Ps2:s network service gives me the shivers :|

The 360 is not doomed. Microsoft would be stupid to give up now. The PS3 is not doomed. Sony would be stupid to give up now. Nintendo are doing really well.

All three are here to compete for our wallets so cheers to gaming.

As much of a PS3 fan I am, I think it's a little too early to tell if the 360 will be "doomed in 2009". I mean, Microsoft has a $199 console, so 2009 should be pretty good for them sales wise...that is as long as they keep a steady stream of exclusives to continue to drive sales.

The fact that Microsoft has said very little about their 2009 lineup makes me think that the PS3 will have a stronger lineup overall though... I mean, 2 of the biggest potential 360 games for 2009, Alan Wake and Splinter Cell Conviction have been VERY quiet for most of the year and Conviction has went "back to the drawing board".... Alan Wake was announced the same year that Killzone 2 was, but Killzone 2 is now just 2 months away from release.

This is why I keep saying that Microsoft relies too much on Halo and Gears because to me it's like if there isn't a Halo/Gears game released on the 360, it's hard for the 360 to have a strong lineup without them. Microsoft needs to come out with more Original IP's and expand their first party studios because buying 3rd party exclusivity and timed exclusives will only get you so far.

Nin i am sure are stoked with the success of the wii. MS must be happy with how they have done sofar with the x360 and i am pretty sure Sony is happy with selling close to 10 million a year which they plan to do for ten years to get 100 million at least.

The title of the article should have been, "Will the x360 do well i 2009" in which case only MS can answer. For x360 fans i am sure they can look forward to Halo Recon,Halo Wars, Gears 3, Splinter Cell and perhaps Alan Wake and KI3 in terms of top draw exclsuives. It still remains to be seen how the market will respond to the price cut of the x360 in the long term.

When the NPD comes out, then we will see who is doomed.

like this article, then MS will pull out one or two exclusives from their sleeves or any other tricks, then xbox360 fans will say "I told you do", however, just like in 2008 the PS3 will have more quality games, just not popular games with high sales.

Yea, this is getting out of hands. MS is doing great with the Xbox 360. They are doing excellent this holiday season. Although it may seem that the xbox does not have as much as exclusives as the playstation 3, which is true, I bet MS will announce more exclusive games later down the line, but still not as massive as the PS3 exclusives, just saying.

i mean both systems are great but i really do think the 360 is running out of steam beginning 2009!!! what they did so the ps3 wont sell much is release gears of war on ps3 launch date!!! but now that theyre two biggest games have released (halo 3 and gears 2) yes it did slow down ps3 sales but its not going to work anymore!!! especially with sonys killer 2009 lineup. ohh and gears 2 is a great game its on par with resistance 2,motorstorm pacific rift,valkyria chronicles, and little big planet(in terms of quality) but really thats the only really good game released as a 360 exclusive this year and you 360 fanboys remember my words..." ps3 will own 360 in 2009 with these games im going to mention":

Seriously, with Halo Recon, Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, Forza 3, at least 2 Rare games (A new perfect Dark and/or Killer Instict?), The new Lion Head Studio game, Halo Cronicles, Bioshock 2, Fallout 3 exclusive DLC, Cry On, APB, GTA4 DLC #2, Huxley, Darkest of Days, The Crossing, Warhound, and of course some new gameswill be announced at E3.

I don't believe for one minute that Sony is going to run away with 09. Nor do I believe the 360 will run away with it. Things are going to get tighter between the two and with neither console performing horrible in sales or game quality, we all win. There are no console losers this generation whether they be in first, second, or third place. Sales are too good all around. To say one console is doomed or one console will completely destroy the other is nonsense. Each will do well enough not to be considered down and out.

The 360 will go as far as bungie and epic will carry them. to the 360's credit, they sold off a price drop, Gears 2 (Which didn't come until Nov), a little bit of Fable2, and some Halo 3, and COD4.

Yea, the line up is not as good as fans try to argue, but the system sells. Look at the Wii...they don't have many games, but it will keep selling. (to some people/companies, that's all that matters)
The ps3 will lower it's price and K2 is coming along (Even the 360 fans love the footage!), and that is when we can bring this argument up. 360 had to drop their price because the ps3 had some time on top...with just MGS4, Prologue, and blu ray movies. This system has not started yet...gamers know what is comming out soon. In 2009, all MS will have to brag about is, GTA DLC, ANOTHER Halo game of some sort, Gears DLC (most likely), and a piece of the Final Fantasy pie.
