It’s pc games, so just turn various settings down to get higher fps. 800p is pretty easy to drive, and the small screen won’t show up the lower settings to much.

People jumping on the bandwagon that the steam deck is crap because it only targets 30fps need to improve there reading comprehension.

Clickbait. A Valve employee has stated that 30 fps is a target. There is no 30 fps lock, only an optional one for battery optimisation. All games tested by Valve reached and exceeded 30 fps.

i mean it did say 2-8 hour battery life... 60fps would halve that. I'm still on the fence as to picking it up or not...I mostly want it because of the tech, but idk if that will be enough vs just getting a laptop.

Its just that, a target. It means that most if not all games can run at 800p @30fps (just like PS & Xbox runs 4k @30FPS on demanding games) so those are probably demanding games in these case as well, but games like idk terraria, disgaea, and non demanding games could run 800p @60fps or more

Also I think people are taking this out of context. It's not locked 30fps, it's the target base framerate. Also doesn't mean that with a few tweaked settings higher framerates wouldn't be possible. Let's just wait and see. I'm happy either way. Most games on Switch run at 30fps and I don't see people complaining about that.

People who own a PC, PS5 or XBOX Series X aren't going to care about this.

If you are willing to downgrade your gaming experience by playing on such a tiny screen, you aren't going to care about it 'only running at 30fps'. If you cared about such things, you wouldn't be gaming on a small screen to begin with.

The interview stated that games will run AT LEAST at 30 fps. Do you want 60+ fps? Use even lower settings, mod the game, render it at 360p. But if you expected this piece of tech to run Cyberpunk 2077 at 60 fps on High you're need psychological help.

As far as a portable console it's about the best specs out there so it should be fine for 90+ percent of games.

It's also worth noting that this will likely include AMD's DLSS option, Fidelity FX. In theory, if you choose, you could render at say 540p and have it upscale resulting in nearly identical visuals, along with higher frame rates and better battery. Again, this is a PC, watching all the console warrior jump in here and prove they have no understanding is HILARIOUS.

They claim 30fps hurts thier eyes, they claim they can't use a "controller thingy" they keep saying ONLY RESOLUTION AND FPS Matters and now ps5seriesx have many games 60fos including a 4k output they have changed thier inkling to 60fps is old school 120fps is now king.

When will they learn? If someone for eg is enjoying a game at 30fps in Mozambique the master race guy from eg Germany has to somehow step in and say "I've got a 2080ti I've got 309 core cpu I've got 900gb ram"

I don't think this is accurate. I read a different report a few days ago that said they will make that a target if need be to make sure games run on it.

That's great for a handheld though. Just enjoy the games. Not everyone is picky about framerates aside from PC gamers apparently. Id get this is I could afford it. I honestly want to see what modders do to it when it's out.

And what about future games a few years from now that will be much more taxing. There's only so much you can set to low to make it playable. 😁 Unless the devs target the platform then maybe it might be ok.

Think of steam deck as a PC Valve say- Yes, a very low end PC. A 1.6TF PC with a medium level/low level CPU. All these people saying ah well, you know what, It's a PC so you can adjust it to get 60fps! Get out of here. If you want one great, but stop making out that somehow 30fps @ 720p is now acceptable. To give some context I would the like PC gamer's applauding this thing to be honest and say what an equivalent 1.6TF graphics card would be in terms of AMD or NVIDIA desktop model. It won't be something you can still buy today, that's for sure.

I can already see some tried to melt their Deck running demaning game at Ultra settings at 4K.

Guys the steam deck is gonna be like any other gaming hardware... It may reach 60 fps or even more. It depends on how well it can run the game in question. This estimate by valve is probably just a conservative estimate for what performance of newer games is like.
