Valve's new Steam Deck is aiming to bring PC gaming to a portable format and if Xbox Game Pass can run on it, it would be huge for fans.

I fully expect Game Pass, PS Now, Stadia, Luna and maybe even GeForce Now to all be supported on this thing.

Especially Sony, I think this could be great for them for advertising gaming on the move like xcloud streaming and devices but no streaming necessary if you no what I mean.
Why play games on the go using a tablet,Phone laptop when you can just have this on your handbag or man bag solves everything or in one.

Nah, theres a BIG, BIG Difference here between each companys service. I mean its a no brainer Microsoft is the only one that has their subscription service tied to the worlds most popular OS. Essentially anything running Windows you can put Gamepass on it and unlike Sony, etc its no extra work for Microsoft/devs...I imagine some titles might need specific Steam Deck optimization if neccessary but for the most part you will be able to run anything that a similar spec pc can run.

So basically Steam Deck will be like a Xbox portable for Gamepass Ultimate gamers...if they want one of course.

I think things tend to be conflated whenever GamePass is mentioned. If we're talking streaming services, the Steam Deck won't really be a game changer because it's only got WiFi....you need a device with 5G to really have any hope of being an effective mobile streaming device. More relevant is a game subscription service, and on PC GamePass isn't really a "game changer", it's just one of many ways to get games cheap. If you're on Windows, steam sales, free Epic giveaways, Game Pass and Humble Bundles are examples of ways that make this possible. I'm sure Game Pass on PC isn't hugely popular.

I speak for everyone when I say we have no clue wtf you're talking about

Zeref1767d ago

it is pretty popular on PC.

It's not just another cheap way to get games. You get NEW games at no additional cost.

GamePass will not work on it Natively. Streaming will work just fine though.

crazyCoconuts1767d ago

You can install windows on it and then GamePass PC should work fine

The difference is gamepass and Stadia will get day one releases and PS now won't at this time. TBH you don't even need an Xbox series X/S, PC, or Stadia if you get a Steam Deck. Waiting for the day Sony releases their first party exclusives *DAY ONE*

GP and Now on this will be a game changer. It is basically a portable PC with a screen. Switch is the only current console that has true exclusives.

This doesn't change the fact that I am a console gamer. When I got my Switch, I thought I would be playing it everywhere. Turns out, I only play handheld when I have no other choice.

I still want a Deck, but am more focused on getting a PS5 at MSRP. I paid $800 for my Series X in January. I don't regret it for a second. I was getting sick of being in cue to buy one, and getting bumped off while paying.

PS5 I am just waiting till it is more readily available. With my Series X purchase, I wasn't happy about the price, but the time I saved made the extra $300 well worth it.

Sellers need to find a way to get rid of scalping! Not cool! I have been very happy with my Series X. When I get a PS5 it is going to cost more than the $800 I paid for my X. Current gen games are not on Now. This month starts a huge GP Xbox Family exclusives day 1. Including games that will be $70 on PS5.

It's gotta be convenient though, if people need to install Windows 10/11 just to access it, then that won't catch on with the average person.

Zeref1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

I don't think the Steamdeck is even targeting the average person.

Just look at it, a kid physically wouldn't be able to play it.

Eidolon1767d ago

Arms would look be further apart than they're comfortable with, maybe.. but other than that, I don't see how a kid couldn't play it.

JackBNimble1767d ago

What ?

I don't think it's longer then 12" after all isn't the screen only 7" ? I'm pretty sure most kids can hold that device unless they're " challenged ".

Vits1768d ago

Well the ball is with Microsoft on this one. Without them actually making a Linux version of the service or at least making a Steam version of it. That wouldn't be possible right out of the box.

At least the download part. The streaming will probably work no problems.

DJStotty1767d ago

Course it will, just use windows IoT

Father__Merrin1767d ago

Whoa people already claiming world domination and its not even out. We've no idea even how long battery lasts

Zeref1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

I preordered one for GamePass natively and I agree people are hyping this way too much, It's giving Steam Machine and Ouya vibes.

However we do have an idea of how long the battery will last. 2-8 hours. It depends on the game and the framerate.

NeoGamer2321767d ago

I don't know about the words "Game Changer".

It would definitely add appeal to XB. And I would buy one for sure. I am on the fence with Steam Deck. I wanna buy one, but I want to know that I will be able to install windows on it, it will work, and I can install Windows Store (therefore gamepass), Steam, and Epic game store games on it.

And yes, they have stated you can install any OS, but saying that in marketing is a lot different then doing that in practice.

Zeref1767d ago

I'm 99 percent sure that Windows will work on it. There's no reason it wouldn't.
