Steam Deck Tech Specs, Full Unit Layout Revealed

The full Steam Deck tech specs have been revealed! Take a look at it along with a full unit layout of controls, ports and more.

darthv721774d ago

Looks like a WiiU on steroids. Damn... this thing will play XBO games on the go.

excaliburps1774d ago

Yep. Price isn't idiotic too. I can see myself buying this for Xbox games. Of course given the chip shortage, scalpers will be the enemy again. Sigh.

Neonridr1774d ago

I mean the top option is $819 here in Canada. Thats almost $200 more than a PS5 up here and nearly double a Switch.

Lionsguard1774d ago

I don't know how Valve is going to handle it but if they only sell it through their steam storefront, they may only allow one per account. It won't stop scalpers from making new dummy accounts but it'll slow them down.

Teflon021774d ago

Tbh no one should buy that top one anyways. The second option or first should be everyones choice imo. Add your own storage for games that don't benefit from fast storage

CaptainHenry9161774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

I like the fact you can mod things on this handheld. This is a PC. Not to mention you can play all of Microsoft exclusives *day one*

DaCajun1774d ago

@Lion

You have to have a stream account and have purchased something on steam prior to June 2021 to pre-order within the first 48 hours starting tomorrow. After that it sounds like a free for all which sucks.

Sounds like even if you pre-order you still might have to wait to get one as stock becomes available. So essentially you get put into some type of pre-order reservation queue limbo.

xbox? this is way better. Steam, epic, etc. It's a PC

darthv721774d ago

Yup, if it can be bought through steam (or other services) it can be played on this. psnow streaming and xcloud streaming as well as gamepass and the xbox and ps games available in the steam service.

Asuka1774d ago

Stereo... Just install Windows on it. Then steam, epic, origin, gamepass. Done.

1774d ago
Asuka1774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

@Stereo if you know how to wipe a PC you can do it.
https://youtu.be/oLtiRGTZvG...
IGN hands on 4:22 minutes in "you can even wipe SteamOS completely and install fresh copy of Windows if you want."

crazyCoconuts1774d ago

@stereo Valve is claiming they want to keep this open so that Windows would be possible. Knowing the limitations of Proton/SteamPlay on Linux, this would be a requirement imo. Honestly I think they'd be better off just giving in and making Windows their default OS, as much as I hate windows.

Teflon021774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

One problem. Doesn't Gamepass work through the MS Store options because who's to say it'll officially support the control functions in that case. Because it surely didn't let me use a PS4 control to play Cuphead, Super Lucky's Tale or Forza Horizon 3 or 4 when I tried it and that was an immediate drop when that was the case as I prefer that control. But the Steam versions for Cuphead and Super Lucky's tale had no issues with the control. Same with PSO2. MS version didn't work with PS4 controls and the steam version did natively

I wouldn't be surprised if you're forced to plug a Xbox xontrol in to even make it work

I can't wait to order mine tomorrow!

specialguest1773d ago

I got mine reserved earlier. The damn checkout part kept on crashing after entering my billing info, but I made it through after 20 mins

Timzster1774d ago

XBO AND PC Games on the go. Definitely something to look out for.

I wonder why they don't go with the asymmetrical analog config? don't they care about "muh ergonomics" and "the best controller ever made"??

Sitdown1773d ago

Yeah, because holding a controller would be the same as holding this. Try harder, as the space and weight don't allow it to really mimic any typical controller setup.

Awe someone is mad they got a small peeps!

Neonridr1774d ago

reminds me of a Game Gear on steroids.

BrainSyphoned1774d ago

Maybe I will actully play the hundreds of steam sale games I've gotten the last decade. Or maybe just FFXIV farming on break at work, not that I ever have a good connection.

jznrpg1774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

Like I said in the other comment section , is this a streaming device?? If you can download games and play them I’m all about it . If it’s streaming only f it I don’t want it . I hope it is downloadable because that’s fing cool if it is . That’s all we wanted from Nintendo and they gabe you an unnecessary screen upgrade and that’s it .

Asuka1774d ago

Yes it's downloadable. You download the games onto the steam Deck and play the games from there. But since it's also running steam you could use steamlink and remote play games if you choose so

elazz1774d ago (Edited 1774d ago )

Your question has been replied to almost immediately after your comment. That was more than 20min before this one.

It's a dedicated handheld with 4c/8t Zen 2 CPU and 8 RDNA 2 cores. About similar power as a base PS4 GPU and faster CPU than PS4/Xbox One. Additionally you can install any operating system you want. It comes with Steam OS 3. You can download a lot of games and play them from the internal memory 64/256/512GB (only last 2 are NVME btw). You can also use USB or micro SD storage.

ABizzel11774d ago

It's actually better than a PS4. 1.6 TFLOPS of RDNA 2 is not the same at 1.84 TFLOPS of GNC. And as you said the CPU, NVMe, and even having 16GB of memory are huge benefits to this. Hopefully you can overclock the RAM as it will allow the system to squeeze out even more performance since APUs and Zen 2 are highly reliant on fast RAM.

This thing is a beast, and easily the best of the handheld PCs on the market.

Neonridr1774d ago

still uses an LCD screen though :P

but yeah, this is pretty remarkable. I wonder how comfortable it is to hold for long sessions, it looks massive.

ABizzel11773d ago

It's almost 2x the weight of the of the original Switch, and about 2 inches longer 🌝

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio25d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing25d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9225d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit25d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing25d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9225d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
