This is not a bug. Their FAQ says save data would not be transferred over on PlayStation. This is far from the first upgraded game to lose out on save data transfer on the PlayStation side

Didn't say it was a bug, spiderman was the same but they patched in the ability to transfer your save after launch, which is why i used it as an example

The hacks on ps3 crossing over to ps4 is likely one reason why, ex. diablo 3.

This is Sony with their casual ineptitude of their backend infrastructure that everybody seems to give a free pass. Generation after generation after generation.

Has nothing to do with the backend infrastructure. Has to do with them not supporting legacy files in PS5 games natively and leaving it entirely up to developers.

Edit: I'm not saying Sony isn't inept in this, just saying your focus on their ineptitude on this one is wrong.

@Christopher so it is Sony and their neglect of back end infrastructure because they should be supported natively, IE built into the system and not something a dev has to worry about.

That sucks! With Series X all I do is download the game to my Series X and it automatically transfers saves from my other Xbox consoles.

This is unacceptable, Bethesda had to know this would happen. Yes they addressed it and are "working on a fix" but why give PS5 an update if it is going to break the game.

Microsoft did some updates for Horizon 4, and it broke the game temporarily for PC and Series Xbox players. These issues shouldn't happen.

Doom Eternal’s PS5 version will eventually get fixed, but it’ll still be lesser than other PS4-to-PS5 upgrades. The total lack of a save-data transfer poses a stark contrast to how cross-gen upgrades have functioned so far on the console. For instance, with the PS5 version of Marvel’s Avengers, you can copy your hard-grinded progress between generations. You simply have to download the PS4 version, hop into the main menu, upload your save data to the cloud, download the PS5 version, go into that main menu, and then re-download your save data. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the currently PS5-exclusive version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, requires a similar set of steps. Yes, the process is often a pain, but at least you can do it.

This is Sony screwing you but Kotaku has to word it funny so they don’t make Sony look worse then Xbox here, which they are again.

On Xbox you click the game and play as normal, just like any other cross gen game.

Edit: so what about people without cloud saves here?

@settrip carrmack works at occulus/Facebook and has been there way before doom was revitalised with doom 2016 he has absolutely nothing to do with id software and has been pretty vocal about that the last few projects he actually want hands on with on for id software was doom 3 and rage.

He did lots to try and push doom 3 to VR headsets in the early days but want able to ever or anything official it there but there's a good chance his work in that area was used for Doom 3 VR which launched earlier this year on psvr

I had no problems. I inserted the PS4 disc and downloaded the PS5 version. It’s frickin beautiful. I didn’t try to transfer my save file tho.

Yeah same mine worked great also loving the duelsense features they included I honestly didn't expect them to do anything special for the duelsense given they are now owned by ms and this doom on ps5 was probably more of a well we said we would do it 6 months ago so we kind of have to.

The save data transfer issue, is a Sony issue, it has been similar with other games trying to transfer. That is why Bethesda have to work with Sony for a fix.

You have to upload your save to the cloud on the PS4, then re-download from the cloud on the PS5, problem fixed.

On xbox, cloud saves are performed automatically, so when you play the newer version, it syncs with the cloud, and automatically downloads your save file.

This has been an issue with more than just Bethesda games when it comes to cross-gen transfers, so to try and paint this as a Bethesda fault, is being ignorant to the underlying fault at hand.

The same issue has occurred for Spiderman MM and other PS titles for the PS5. The problem isn't Bethesda (we all know Bethesda are the king of bugs), it's a Sony issue.

No, it's a genuine question.
It doesn't at all suprise you that there's a problem with the PS5 upgrade to this game, an issue with the game transfer from past gen and that it has happened AFTER Microsoft has acquisitioned Bethesda.
I truly wonder had that acquisition not have happened weather the same problems would have been there.
It would have been the same formula from past gen xbox to the new one, why didn't that transfer have issues?
I dunno, sounds fishy to me.

Not a fanboy at all though yes I own a ps5. I'm not great with tech and understanding how it works and the like but just question why it seems to work flawlessly on one machine but not the other even though, again presumably, it's using the same program to transfer the data over.
Maybe I just haven't understood the process properly or understand how it works. It just seemed strange at 1st glance is all.

This is a know issue with other PS5 games that were made by Sony. This is a Sony issue. Not sure you went straight to blame MS/Bethesda as this issue was first seen with Spiderman MM.

Downloaded the ps5 version today, it worked just fine.

I nevsr actually got to finish it the first time round dont mind having to start again to be honest however can see why people would be annoyed.

Same I got about as far as the ice levels so a few hours in when I heard I would get a next gen upgrade free I basically put the game on the shelf for a few months. And starting a new feels right I get to experience the whole thing in the best way possible (someone will chime in and say that is with kB/m but I don't agree I've tried playing on PC not for me)

To be fair, Sony is under no obligation to make it easy to bring game saves from a previous generation. People are only harping on this because XB did make it easy.

It is not that Sony is bad here. It is more that MS did something better.

On Switch I can't carry my Super Mario 64 game save to my Switch. Don't hear people complaining about that!
Carrying game saves is not a right for gamers it is an additional feature.

Your comparisons are trite. For one this is a known issue that Sony either can't fix or won't, as it was first identified with Spiderman MM. This has nothing to do with MS at all. Sony had this functionality on precious consoles, so there is now excuse now. Also. The switch launched a while ago. People are comparing the two premiere consoles that were just launched. Just as we don't expect the Switch to have other featires the PS5 or Series S/X to have.

I think I’m done with the ps5 upgrades anyway. Such a dumb system. The shit isn’t marked so I don’t know if I’m downloading the PS4 version of dlc or the ps5 version. I have all the mk11 dlc (PS4 and 5 versions) on my ps5 because I don’t know which is which. I know it’s the developers and not Sony but I’m over it lol.

I don’t know, I didn’t look lol. I’m done with ps5 upgrades I said. I’m talking about the system being jank. For example, in order for the aftermath mk11 dlc to work on PS5 I had to download the ps4 version, play it for few seconds, close it and then start the ps5 version. I had to do this every time I turned the system off. And all of the mk11 dlc isn’t marked so you don’t know which version you are downloading. The system is dumb.

The campaign is short?? Lol its atlrsst 14 hrs and thats on a generous playthrough you can easily get up to 25 hours on this game. Thats pretty long for an fps. By the end i was a little exhausted

This is 100% on Sony for:
1. Not providing an OS level save game migration system like Xbox does
2. Still charging $$$ for cloud saves
