Why? Chief is halo, halo is chief.... not everything needs to be changed or reinvented just because, there has to be a genuine reason for it or it can come off as a bad thing.

I agree with this should be the last master chief Halo. The story in Halo isn’t the best. In truth it’s pretty generic. The gameplay, the enemies, the look of it is dated. Halo isn’t a bad game, but everything does feel old if that makes sense. I think this is all largely because of the ”if it ain’t broke” mentality. Thing is Halo isn’t “broke” but it’s kinda handcuffed because it’s chief. He’s handcuffed to this repeated fight with the same enemy types after so many games and a sprinkle of new ones.

Now what if Chief does finish the fight? No more of the alien buddy cop, no more flood, no more super monologue monkey. No more of battle rifle and scorpion tank and so on. Put the new game in the future after ages of peace and there’s a race that’s taken the all clear as a sign to come a conquer. They’d been waiting for the legendary chief to fade. Waiting for the war to end and be sure any heroes of that era were gone.
Now you could bring that gameplay to the future. It’s still got Halos “bones” but you can enjoy these all new weapons, all new enemies, all new movements and features of the new hero, and get that feeling of the exploration in the first halo all over again. When the music dropped on this strange world and the flood appeared for the first time. The multiplayer can be brought to the future with the new movements, abilities, and gameplay too.
There is zero surprise to me in Halo games and it hasn’t been for years. Coolest thing to me was being overwhelmed at the end of ODST if that was the one.
Things about Halo has to change. Each version sells less than the one before it. I think the change needs to start with chief and that frees up restrictions on everything else.

They should make video game version of: Halo 3 2: Halo 4 The Movie.

There are MANY game franchises that this could be said about. Mario,Link,Kratos,Nathan and so many more could be retired but try imagining a Zelda game with no link? I say as long as the character has a reason to fight then let him fight. Some game characters it makes sense to retire but MC ain't one...

The real issue is the piss poor writing of his character these days. He talks too much. Look at 1-3 at how he only spoke when he needed to, short lines, now he just goes on and on rambling.

Halo wars 1 was actually a good Halo game without the Chief. It can be done if the story and gameplay are good. Remember that Halo 2, you also play as the arbiter?

Dumb take. Should Nintendo retire Link? Sony retire Kratos or any of their other mascots with never ending series? No. They need to keep rolling with MC and Cortana as long as the voice actors can keep doing it. Definitely like the recurring side characters and they need more of those.

I would love an ODST 2 (can even reboot the franchise by calling it "Spartan" or something) after infinite that start at the beginning of the covenant battle. Nb4 ppl ask why call it Spartan if you're an ODST. You'd become a Spartan at the end of the game and the sequel

The problem is, at least in my opinion, the weakest games in the series have been the ones where Chief was not in them or a minor character - ODST, Reach Halo 5 - so going off that history I would definitely disagree with the author of the article. We need Chief front and center for the foreseeable future. God of War kept Kratos over multiple games and look how that turned out. It's not the Chief that is the problem rather the game writing and gameplay which is getting a bit rusty, change that and Halo will be fine.

He is too Iconic to the Xbox brand. Every time they launch a new Halo, the same articles seem to come out. Not sure why? But I'm looking forward to the game.

Halo at the moment is not stale, and the Halo universe is one of the vastest in gaming.

I don't think anyone is really all that surprised. 10 years is a lofty length of time for most studios, and it's like like Infinite held the same draw as something like GTA or similar games that managed it.

Lack of identity and chasing something for Halo that isn't Halo could only mean failure in the end.

Halo has now been a mediocre-to-bad franchise for longer than Bungie had it for, which is crazy. It's same with Forza and Gears of War; once Xbox's top-quality franchises reduced to run-of-the-mill AAA games that fade into obscurity the moment they're released (or in Forza's case, the main franchise is DOA).

This is what happens when everyone involved is a weasel. Eventually the whole thing comes crashing down.
