Xbox Insiders getting Dolby Vision this week

Larry Hryb announced the news on Twitter.

I am unfamiliar with DV implementation of HDR in comparison to the standard HDR. I think my TV supports both but if not... would I really be missing out on anything?

AuraAbjure1840d ago

Dolby Vision offers frame by frame image optimization options for developers I think. HDR 10 does not.

StoneyYoshi1840d ago

Dolby vision is the best form of HDR in my opinion. My Sony TV supports it and I enjoy it with Disney+ and Netflix. Unfortunately PS5 only supports HLG HDR or its just HDR10 but it still looks great dependent on the game of course since some games push out fake HDR support.

OptimusDK1840d ago

Om Dolby vision you Can set the optimization on each frame, which means that you can achieve much better dynamic Solution. There is a huge difference and fantastic to see this coming to games.

Orchard1840d ago

Dolby vision is a much better implementation of HDR basically.

SDR is 8bit depth with 16.7 million colors
HDR (or HDR10/10+) is 10bit depth with 1.07 billion colors.
Dolby Vision is 12bit depth with 68.7 billion colors.

So you end up with a much wider range of brightness levels, graduations of colors, and a much smoother transition overall. It's like night and day when you see it in the flesh, whether at home or in a Dolby theater.

Dolby Vision is far superior. My LG OLED supports it, and the HDR implementation is brilliant. You'll know too when you're using it because you'll get a Dolby Vision pop up in the top right corner vs HDR when you use the PS5 for example.

Notellin1839d ago

Dang how are you doing that when PS5 doesn't support Dolby Vision at all?

Barely any difference in day to day viewing, also it needs to be implemented properly which is rarely the case, especially on netflix. You won't notice anything above standard hdr without digital foundry doing a frame by frame deep dive (which isn't reality)

Orchard1839d ago

^ Clearly written by someone who has never experienced Dolby Vision

Vizigoth041840d ago

I just want Dolby Atmos and DTS-X for in game Surround. Not just movies.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing28d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9228d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit28d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing28d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9228d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
