Returnal has gone Gold

Housemarque took to Twitter to make the announcement and thank the teams involved.

TGGJustin1807d ago

Can't wait to play this next month. I think a lot of people are sleeping on it.

lifeisgamesok1807d ago (Edited 1807d ago )

Me too. Remedy Games Thomas Puha says Returnal is a full on Sony game. And it looks amazing to me

I think some are definitely sleeping on it

Day one!

seanpitt231807d ago (Edited 1807d ago )

I think people are sleeping on it because it’s housemarque they are only renowned for over top action arcade games like zombie nation and alienation etc... they are very good games for what they are but the studio hasn’t proved themselves for likes of a big AAA game before, so the best thing you can do is don’t get to hyped up and go in with little expectations and I think it will be a ok game

Fiddlerblue1806d ago

@seanpitt23
Well, I mean, Naughty Dog was only known for platformers until they made Uncharted.

I get what you're saying with the whole unproven studio = keep expectations in check though.
I'm planning on buying this game myself unless the reviews are all terrible.

Kurt Russell1806d ago

I loved zombie nation and alienation. So I am very interested to see what they have come up with now they have a bit more money.

Epicor1806d ago (Edited 1806d ago )

That name takes me way back to my childhood. Thomas Puha was reviewing games for Pelit ("Games") and Peliasema ("PlayStation") magazines in the 90s. Those were the days.

LightofDarkness1806d ago

I'm just a little burned out on rogue-likes/lites (thanks, indie game devs). I'll still probably pick it up.

Housemarque is one of the most proven devs in the business. Last gen alone saw standouts RESOGUN, Alienation, Nex Machina among others. It's not their fault that many people don't appreciate quality software and are easily swayed by advertising dollars and fads. Add in Super Stardust, Outland, and Dead Nation and Housemarque should be regarded as indie royalty and industry legends.

Day one on name alone.

SullysCigar1806d ago

Well said. These guys are the real deal and are industry vets. They like to test new hardware and this time we're armed with a much bigger budget.

I'm hoping they've nailed it, as usual!

Epicor1806d ago

Fully agreed. It will be interesting to see who they manage this project though as it's way more ambitious than their previous indie-type games. It's on the grey area between indie and triple-A productions. I'm sure they'll deliver but I also hope that this will be a commercial success so we could see even bigger projects from them in the future.

seanpitt231806d ago (Edited 1806d ago )

Well we all thought CD project red was after blowing us away with the Witcher series and look how that turned out.. when devs come out of there comfort zone bad things can happen, But I have no doubt returnal will be a good game but I also don’t blame people for sleeping on it and keeping there expectations low

Don’t forget this is priced at £70 here in the uk so thats damn expensive and you would expect a good solid next gen AAA experience game for that money

LegoIsAwesome1806d ago

Can't wait to play this on PC next year!

DJStotty1806d ago

Me neither, i should have my PC completed by then :p

1806d ago
LegoIsAwesome1806d ago

Keep waiting but Sony already said it themselves more Sony games on PC. Sad fanboys

lifeisgamesok1806d ago

You might be waiting all the way into the PS6 release

Just sleeping on that price myself looks very good but not paying £70 for any games. I’ll wait it out for Resi8 and Deathloop £47/48 respectively one comes with dlc and Lenticular sleeve the other comes with lenticular card set and dlc both £20+ less I’ll come back to Returnal in the summer. It’ll be £40/50 max by June once ratchet drops. I’ve bought one game for £65 miles Morales and only paid that because it also came with Spider-Man code but unless were talking GTA6 etc £65 day1 ain’t happening.

Alot of people sleeping after seeing it's HouseMarque whom has always only made low budget Arcade style games but don't seem to realize this is a full on AAA big budget title with infinite replayability.

AriesBear1806d ago

They are good. But I wouldnt say it’s AAA due to random procedurally generated gameplay. So your still getting that arcade style gameplay with better graphics n some story. But you lose some thing with that random procedurally generated style because the worlds don’t really have a point. It’s just a bunch of the hallways are open areas that change consistently. Had they actually created a full on game that wasn’t random then I would say yeah it’s a AAA game like dead space, last of us or other Sony titles. Dead nation was pretty cool but I can’t even remember the story or characters.

Rude-ro1806d ago

How do you judge if people are sleeping on it?

Per n4g?

I can guarantee you a majority of consumers do bot care who makes the game...
They buy off of hype.
Hype is through advertising.

The “noise” is artificial.

Unless you have another means to judge this sleeping aspect.

JEECE1807d ago

Ah I wish this game would have stayed in March! Excited to check it out either way though.

CaptainHenry9161807d ago

This is going to be a sleeper hit and big surprise

JEECE1807d ago

I hope so. I think it's going to need strong critical reception and strong word of mouth from fans, but with those two things and the fact that it looks to be Sony's only true PS5 exclusive for awhile (yes there's Deathloop but it isn't Sony-published), it could be a moderate success.

1807d ago
JEECE1807d ago

@knightedHollow

I hope so. But I'm just afraid there won't be much advertising, etc. My guess is that if I asked my other friends who own PS5s, many of them won't have even heard of this game. That will need to be fixed somehow.

I just think Deathloop is an easier sell to someone who isn't already interested.

IamTylerDurden11806d ago

Ratchet & Clank comes a month and a half later..

JEECE1806d ago

@IamTylerDurden1

You are right. I was forgetting how close that one was.

1806d ago
lifeisgamesok1806d ago

@JEECE For my tastes, Returnal looks infinitely better than Deathloop

roadkillers1807d ago

Surprised this isn't getting more attention. Review score predictions?

TGGJustin1807d ago

Probably in the 8 range for an average. It will get some 10's and 9's but I think it will be like most of their games and end up in the 8 range. Housemarque has always made great games.

IamTylerDurden11806d ago

78 Meta. I don't trust the media as they've already used Returnal as a next gen pricing target. It will score lower than it deserves because of this.

ArchangelMike1806d ago

Unfortunately I thikn you're right. Sadly, I think the gaming media will use Returnal as a "next-gen-game-prices&quo t; punching bag. Hopefully it will prove to be the quality AAA game that it is aiming for.

Dat 1 for me regardless.

obidanshinobi1806d ago

6/10 on average.
Will be some 7 and 8 out of 10s, possibly some 5s.
Game looks meh, fun for maybe an hour or two then will likely become too repetitive.
The whole roguelike aspect to me smacks of an AA $30 indie game made by a small team.

JEECE1806d ago

Lol classic that the people who always say "meh" are the same people who always say something "smacks" of another thing.
