Historic Eras that Video Games Need to Explore

Xfire writes "Worldbuilding is a crucial part of any story. It's not an easy task to create a believable setting with its own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations and then weave a story into the said setting. Luckily, storytellers and video game writers don't always need to create complex settings when we've got history books as thick as Big Chungus.

Historical eras make a fabulous setting for video games. They've already got the world-building nailed, complete with their own set of rules, customs, traditions and political affiliations. Honestly, I don't think I need to justify the fact that historical eras make an amazing setting for video games. If you don't believe me, just go ahead and play the Ghost of Tsushima or any of the Assassin's Creed games."

The first crusade would be pretty sweet. I’d probably enjoy any of those on your list if they were done respectfully. Like not some dork in Portland making a Russian Revolution game.

Benin Empire, Far East, Central America. Games are pretty biased toward Europe, North America, and the Middle East. There is a very big world out there.

The trailers didn’t do justice. This game looks phenomenal and having a ray tracing mode at 60fps on PS5 Pro is a treat. Much better than stutter engine 5.

derek109d ago

Yep, glad most playstation studios have their own in-house engines so they don't have to rely on working with unreal engine 5.

S2Killinit109d ago

GoT was already gorgeous. I can imagine GoY to be as impressive (:

mkis007108d ago

Combine them and you have GoTY

Reaper22_109d ago

Both look good but i don't see a major visual leap. At least not from those videos.

Levii_92109d ago

Hm nope. Absolutely not worth giving my 70$ IMO. Especially not for another girl boss revenge story. I swear man they don't know what else to write for women when they put them in these more grounded roles/games.

Sabbath1313109d ago

were you born without a brain or did you lose along the way turbo

Akira2020108d ago

He was born with an opinion, just like you.

mkis007108d ago

How is this different from Tomb Raider? Or is that also not grounded

tay8701108d ago

Ahh another weak willed cry baby. Dude grow the hell up or take a time machine back to the 1950s where your ignorant, fragile male ego is better suited.

S2Killinit108d ago

At this point anyone can cry about anything. People say they want single player games with stories and not multiplyer, then proceed to cry about the story not fitting their world view, etc.

Cry on everybody.

@Levii Talk about fragile masculinity.

Absolutely buying this. Not skipping good games just to stand on some flimsy soapbox.

Kurisu109d ago

Just preordered the game myself. I didn't purchase GoT but I played it when it hit the PS+ catalogue and loved it. Yotei definitely gets my money.

Travesty109d ago (Edited 109d ago )

Me too, when I got my PS5 I played it off PS+, one of my all time favorites. Now I have the Pro.
I got the physical version off of PlayStation Direct and they said it would come on launch day or up to three days before. Definitely won’t be sad to have it before launch lol.

yeah, they're gonna overprice it so only 0.5% of the playerbase can buy it. The spiderman packs cost like 650 for 12 packs or something, on top of spiderman not fitting into mtg at all. Most of current PS characters don't fit either.

As I started reading I thought wow they finally listened. Unlock trophies and gain physical awards.

But then I realised it's unlock trophy to have the option to purchase a physical item.

thorstein115d ago (Edited 115d ago )

A pin for the plat but a boring t-shirt for the gold trophy.

Do people even collect pins?

ocelot07114d ago

I personally don't. But if they are left in the box like the pic then would be a cool display piece.

Agent75114d ago

Scalpers paradise. Like the Astro Bot controller, retails for around £75, but sells for over £100 used? The gold Ghost of Yotei controller retails for £75 also, but the black version is only available from Sony for the same price.

xHeavYx114d ago

"This is just the start. Ghost of Yotei Rewards will arrive later this year"
So, pretty much what Destiny does.

Relientk77114d ago

So you unlock trophies which gives you the opportunity to give them more money?

This sounds so stupid
