I reviewed this title back in September 2020 and gave it a 7.8. Mortal Shell suffered from major lag, inconsistent framerates, and movement that feat unbearably slow. Cold Symmetry has rereleased the game on March 4th, 2021 as the Mortal Shell Enhanced Edition. But with its new updates, is Mortal Shell Enhanced Edition more deserving of your time now? I’ve played the game again in NG+ and on the Xbox Series X. Let’s find out.”

An in depth review of the decent soulslike, Mortal Shell.
Mortal Shell had a terrible performance on the PS5 since the arrival of the 4K patch that bumped the resolution to native 4K.
Mortal Shell has been patched to run at 1800p on the PS5 but this also leads to the performance of the game suffering as a result.
As someone who has played all versions of the game from Pro, to PS5 not enhanced, to enhanced on PS5, to patched the framerate still appears quite smooth and the three frame difference is not noticeable. Perhaps dynamic 1800 would be the best decision as dynamic resolution is more favorable than inconsistent framerate, but the game is so massively improved on the Enhanced Edition and such a joy that a few frames just isn't a factor for me.
In my opinion PS5 is the best console experience for Mortal Shell hands down. We can debate whether 57 frames but native resolution are better or worse than 60 at dynamic res, but for me, the excellent DualSense implementation makes the difference. It truly adds to the immersion and enhances the experience. I am loving Mortal Shell on PS5, whereas, it was slightly disappointing on PS4 compared to PC.
