Denuvo joins exclusive PS5 Tools and Middleware program to offer Anti-Cheat technology to developers

Denuvo’s Anti-Cheat is available to game publishers on PlayStation®5 to help bring cheating to an end

BigBosss1907d ago

I know PC games had performance issues due to Denuvo. I hope that's not the case here.

PitbullMonster1906d ago

Don't confuse DRM (copy protection) with anti cheat software.

travestyj1906d ago

This is for anti-cheat and has already been on PS4 for years now. They also list Xbox One and Xbox SX as consoles that use Denuvo

IRetrouk1906d ago

"Developed by security experts and video game enthusiasts, Denuvo’s technology has no negative impact on in-game performance and its non-intrusive methodology ensures the developer’s workflow is never impacted."

SoulWarrior1907d ago

What cheating on exists PS5 exatly? I don't like the sound of this tbh, if it causes any issues I hope Sony drop it straight away.

Jin_Sakai1907d ago (Edited 1907d ago )

Alex from Digital Foundry said it’s coming to PS5

“for all the playstation exclusive games which will be coming to PC and supporting crossplay.”

Christopher1906d ago

I think it's aimed more at cross play games.

IRetrouk1906d ago

Did you notice it on xbox one or ps4?

XiNatsuDragnel1907d ago

That's interesting to see implement on consoles.

DJStotty1906d ago

"This means that titles that have used the tool before require an online check before they can be played offline, including some single-player focused games. No details were given on whether this would be the same on PS5, though we suspect this will mostly be used in online only titles."

Sounds like the dreaded online check in DRM from the xbox one launch days, hopefully this is not the case for PS5, I was not a fan of the 24hr check in when announced for xbox one (even though i never play offline but that is not the point).

darthv721906d ago

I don't think Sony would go that route, and the fans certainly would not stand for it as well.

IRetrouk1906d ago (Edited 1906d ago )

It's not drm it's anti cheat software, nothing like what ms was trying, plus it's already been used for years on ps4 and xbox one, did you notice it? It's already in some launch games on ps5 too.

"Denuvo’s Anti-Cheat incorporates advanced technology to secure both online gameplay as well as securely reward offline progress. The technology helps game developers protect sensitive game logic or data, preventing cheaters from changing sensitive variables and ensuring its trustworthiness. A number of games incorporated Denuvo’s Anti-Cheat at launch of PlayStation®5 to ensure best experience for the gamers."

DJStotty1905d ago (Edited 1905d ago )

I only referred to it as some form of DRM, in regards to the potential to need an internet connection to verify the game on initial install, the form of DRM has changed over the years.

And because of its own description on what it is :-

"Denuvo Anti-Tamper, more commonly known as Denuvo, is an anti-tamper technology and digital rights management (DRM) scheme developed by Austrian software company Denuvo Software Solutions GmbH, a subsidiary of Irdeto."

Not having a pop at Sony.

Even today, DRM exists on the consoles, if you buy a game digital, it is subject to DRM. Even a disc has DRM, it just has the check on the disc, so you do not need to be online, any game you play without a disc, will require a DRM check online, this is on all platforms today.

The only way without DRM, was the old way of having to enter a software key upon install, but yeah all forms of media are subject to DRM, you never own any game, you just own the license to play it.

IRetrouk1905d ago (Edited 1905d ago )

They are not using the antitamper software, thats pc only, they are using the anti cheat software, two different things, ones drm the other allows devs to monitor their games for cheaters, I've already quoted exactly what they say it is, its not a form of digital rights management at all. You can pull quotes from their site all you like, you are quoting the wrong software description🤷‍♂️
Regardless of what uses drm or not, this is not it. And again, nothing like ms was trying.

From their own site
Pc https://ibb.co/Gx4dTkL
Console https://ibb.co/VY18fMT
Description for both https://ibb.co/7nKwbTp

Highrevz1906d ago

I’m all up for anti cheat software to be implemented, will be keeping an eye out for more information on this.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio31d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing31d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9231d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit31d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing31d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9230d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
