this is why gamespass is so awesome, so many games released now don't perform the best or well at launch, but with gamespass you still get to try them out without spending money then play them when they are patched once or twice.

Magog1841d ago

So you're saying gamepass is great because it encourages devs to launch broken games?

Livingthedream1841d ago

The game was nowhere near broken. The fact that we have online platforms allows developers to continuously update games. Sony and MS do this as well. The great thing about game pass, is you don't actually have to purchase the game(s)

Chriswheeler221841d ago

I dont think it encourages but it certainly doesn't make any incentive to create a game that looks good enough that folks are willing to spend more than 10 bucks on it.

Ron_Danger1841d ago

It doesn’t encourage devs to put out unfinished products, but it does alter gamers mindsets.
“... but with gamespass you still get to try them out without spending money” is a mindset you should have with demos, not full releases of games when talking about buggy games.

Imagine going out to eat at a restaurant and when you get there, they tell you the meal is free. When you get served, the meat is raw, the salad is rotten, and the server spills your water on your lap. Going in with the “game pass mindset” this type of this is perfectly fine because it was free.

gamer78041841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

No it gives users a safeguard from games either broken or unoptimized while still the opportunity to play them. Because let’s be honest the state of games isn’t changing anytime soon. But nice try turning a positive comment into a negative one...

stiggs1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

"So you're saying gamepass is great because it encourages devs to launch broken games?"

This is youre takeaway from gamer7804's enthusiatic comment regarding Gamepass? Man, some peole will go to any lengths to find negativity in places where it doesn't exist. How do you think that you became such a dour, pessimistic person?

I actually feel bad for you.

Imortus_san1841d ago

Espect more broken games them ever due to COVID.

Kiwi661841d ago

So how do you explain all the games that required patches/upgrades after launch before gp was even a thing

jwillj2k41841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

You’re brainwashed. All gamepass does is create a platform where this type of behavior is warranted and welcomed. A patch to fix bugs is fine, but a patch that’s 4 gigs means the game is not finished. The product should have been delayed from that standpoint.

Instead of delaying and releasing the best product, you’re negatively affecting the products reviews and thus revenue stream, the later may now not be an issue because of gamepass.

So you’re paying actual money for undercooked games and validating your purchase by praising said games instead of complaining about the quality like you would have if you purchased it.

Do you see why people say gamepass just lowers the bar on expectations now?

Ron_Danger1841d ago

Add another one to the list of mantras:

“Who cares, it was free on Game Pass”
“Best lineup in history”
“Most powerful console/ Xbox in history”
“First to 10 million wins”
“Sales don’t matter”
“Wait till E3”

DJStotty1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

Your rant is unjustified, this article is about a 3.9gb update for the Steam version, no mention of the consoles, or gamepass for that matter.

Then again, chances are your probably did not read it.

@dj

You get that people are responding to the first comment, right? The one that starts with “ this is why gamespass is so awesome”... these are responses to that comment, not the article.

DJStotty1841d ago

@Ron_Danger

You do realise i am responding to the rant about gamepass and not the article right?

In regards to the original comment

"this is why gamespass is so awesome, so many games released now don't perform the best or well at launch, but with gamespass you still get to try them out without spending money then play them when they are patched once or twice."

They are simply stating that they think gamepass is awesome, as so many games are released in an "unfinished" state, so if the game is on gamepass in said "unfinished" state, you can try them without spending money.

Again, the commentors opinion about gamepass, not the article in question.

Hope this helps.

DJStotty1841d ago

"A patch to fix bugs is fine, but a patch that’s 4 gigs means the game is not finished. The product should have been delayed from that standpoint."

Demons souls patch size - 7.5GB

https://www.vg247.com/2020/...

So your saying Demon's souls was also an unfinished PS5 product? That is what your saying right?

1841d ago
SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1841d ago

So games didn't release broken and in need of patches outside of gamepass or before it existed? Sounds like a cap to me.

1841d ago
sagapo1840d ago

Last of Us 2 got a 4gig patch twice! So according to you that game was not finished as well?

DJStotty1841d ago (Edited 1841d ago )

No, i think gamer7804 is speaking in general, when he is saying "so many games released now don't perform the best or well at launch" referring to the many games that do launch with issues, and the list can be extensive.

They are just basically stating that if these games are on gamepass, you do not need to go to the hassle of paying for a broken game and then getting a refund.

I do not know how you took that as "gamepass is great because it encourages devs to launch broken games?" when they were not referring to gamepass releases.

At least that is what I assumed they meant with the comment.

On topic, this update is for Steam and not consoles, as per stated in the article :-

"As always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client."

Locutus_of_borg1841d ago

Consoles too ... mine updated earlier but I’ve not had chance to try it yet tho ...

DJStotty1838d ago

Yeah i got a 4.5GB update for the Series X version also.

lukasmain1841d ago

I fully disagree. I think GamePass is a cancer on gaming and it fosters mediocrity. It will never push gaming forward, it will hold it back. This is all my opinion so don't start going crazy. You enjoy it? Good for you. But I think it sucks and it encourages mediocre games and shovelware to thrive.

1841d ago
Ijustplaygames201840d ago

The Wii existed long before game pass with piles of shovelware broken games, unfinished games, bad games. CP2077 exists & has nothing to do with game pass! CDPR management saw holiday sale dollar signs in their eyes & couldn't pass it up.

gamer78041840d ago

You are free to disagree, but I think sometimes it’s the AA and indie games that really push gaming. A lot of the AAA games don’t do anything new. Now I like assassins creed ok, but it doesn’t really do anything new. AA and indie play an important role in gaming. Also it helps gamers break into new genres they’ve never tried. Now should it be the only way to play games. Of course not. But it’s good to have the option.

DJStotty1838d ago

@potatoseal

"I fully disagree. I think GamePass is a cancer on gaming and it fosters mediocrity."

And i would fully expect that opinion, being an owner of a Playstation.

I can kind of see what you mean and kind of agree. I always get gamepass for £1 for £1. It's so cheap. What I have found my self doing recently. Is with gamepass trying games I wouldn't normally give ago. For example Yakuza. I tried Yakuza zero played for about a hour and enjoyed what I played.

So I then went and bought it for PS4.

gamer78041840d ago

Right regardless of where you buy it. Then your purchase was a win for gamespass and the developers of yakuza.

ocelot071840d ago

@gamer7804 yup agreed Microsoft made a pound out of me. Sega may get a fair amount out of me as if I really enjoy zero then I will end up buying all the games available on PS4/5 which in turn means Sony also gets money out of me.

Killer73nova1841d ago

Good because the game plays like dog shit. Frames constantly drop and noticed that when one looks around in the game you get like a “pop” of black. Idk if this is the games compensation for blur motion but it just looks bad. It shouldn’t have these graphics problems because overall the game doesn’t like that good. I understand that it’s running two worlds at once but it idk how they were able to do it but some parts of one world show in the other kind of an overplay.

That being said I think the game is a good game. I like the story and giving me a Dino crisis/resident evil type gameplay. So I do believe that the game is a solid 7. If they were able to make the game more graphically intense I believe this game would be and easy 8.8

gamer78041841d ago

Same here, bloober had issues with some of their past games and performance like Blair witch. Which needed patches desperately but they got it fixed up. They tell good stories though

1841d ago
Aussiesummer1840d ago

Ah who cares, it's a boring game with boring writing, bad animations and a boring gimmicky concept.

The Medium TV Show Announced by Bloober Team

Bloober Team has announced that it will turning its psychological horror game The Medium into a TV show, though no details were provided.

I wonder if the TV will lean heavily on that same split-screen mechanic. Not sure if it would work, but it would definitely be interesting.

rlow11241d ago

I think that would be the main selling point. It would set the show apart from others in its category.

coolbeans1241d ago

Given techniques like split diopter shots (seen a lot in De Palma films) or splicing different takes in editing, there's way to incorporate a similar split-screen effect.

Deathdeliverer1242d ago

For the first time ever I feel like a tv show could be infinitely better than the game. Man that game was a dumpster fire of boredom.

Petebloodyonion1241d ago

I do think there's nice untapped potential for a Tv show with a six-sense vibe.
Call me crazy but I'm one of the few who did enjoy the plot of the game and finished it.
Was it perfect hell no but nice and refreshing hell yeah.

coolbeans1241d ago (Edited 1241d ago )

-"Call me crazy but I'm one of the few who did enjoy the plot of the game and finished it."

Don't let the most vocal of this site fool you: you're in the majority for those who actually played it.

monkey6021241d ago

If you guys enjoyed it, then good for you but Bloober has a history of writing trauma themes into their plot and handling it horribly. The Medium was particularly problematic. People aren't advocating against Bloober for no reason.

coolbeans1241d ago (Edited 1241d ago )

@monkey602

-"...Bloober has a history of writing trauma themes into their plot and handling it horribly."

As someone who's played almost all of their recent main games to some extent (Layers of Fear 2 excluded), they are inconsistent writers. Blair Witch had some rough execution for example.

-"The Medium was particularly problematic."

It has moments of shock value that harm the overall experience, but there's actually meaningful subtext buried here. Whenever I see the term "problematic" I reflexively wonder how much that accusation is fueled by reddit's subculture or whatever. By today's standard, Silent Hill 2 would get dinged for being problematic despite that... being the entire point. Bloober's applying a 'trauma begets trauma' motif through its world by incorporating the ravages done to Poland by Nazis and Communists. There are legit reasons why all of these pieces are in place and how they're explored is done in earnestness. I've seen some otherwise solid people, like Gene Park, critique it but I think he misunderstands some of its crucial context.

Not the best of last year, but it was well within its right for '21 writing nominations.

monkey6021241d ago

I'm definitely not trying to be the voice of a new generation here. And I'm definitely not against using sensitive themes for setting and plot. But the conclusion Bloober came to with their themes in The Medium was incredibly jarring and poorly crafted.

I'm not going to deep dive into it, it is spoiler territory and I wouldn't want to ruin it for someone who would enjoy it.
But I played 2 games last year that absolutely botched what they set out to achieve in narrative. The Medium was one, The Suicide of Rachel Foster was the other.

coolbeans1241d ago (Edited 1241d ago )

-"But the conclusion Bloober came to with their themes in The Medium was incredibly jarring and poorly crafted."

I guess there's just going to be a hard disagree between us then. It ranks up there with Observer as far as Bloober's storytelling goes and it gave me more optimism about their heavily rumored Silent Hill project/remake. I can understand not wanting to get into details here, but I'm down for an extended convo via PM. It just might take a while for me to respond.

-"But I played 2 games last year that absolutely botched what they set out to achieve in narrative. The Medium was one, The Suicide of Rachel Foster was the other."

It's weird b/c I'm with you on Rachel Foster and its "Legal Lolita" angle too. I'd almost argue there's a yin/yang disparity between them with regards to handling their themes. *MAYBE* not black and white difference per se - Medium has some issues, but something closer to a black and... beige.

porkChop1241d ago

Hmm. That actually makes a lot of sense. I could see the dual reality split screen being used in some scenes. That would provide some pretty incredible visuals that we don't normally get in films or tv shows.
