SONY have officialy said they sold 4.5 million PS5's LAST YEAR.

So VGChartz are you telling me since Jan 1st Sony has only sold 333,120 units ??

I know you do "educated guesses" and all that. But when a company comes out and officially gives you numbers, then you must adjust your personal numbers accordingly. I remember last gen Sony would always come out and give official numbers and you would refuse to change yours and continue to under report their numbers.

trunkswd1950d ago

Sony shipped 4.5 million PS5 consoles in 2020. This includes consoles in transit, which haven't been sold to consumers yet.

lmao what a load of bollocks

1Victor1949d ago

If they’re “on transit” WHY I CAN’T FIND A PS5 ANYWHERE
VGFCZ video games FAKE chartz is a joke they DON’T HAVE ACCESS TO ACTUAL COMPANIES NUMBERS their
“Educated guess” are dumber than swimming with shark with leaking blood bags on your pockets

DashMad1948d ago

@utopiancat
no..no..no.. you don't understand that majority worlwide shiping diverted to prioritize shipping Vaccines if you dealt with export or import company you'll know this, we exporting goods and have to queue for 2 weeks just to ship outside for non priority goods such as electronics for full volume or choose to reduce shipment volume if you want to get it out faster. you should expect shortages of any consoles for the upcoming month until all vaccines distributed.

RedDevils1948d ago

Go back to school, or use common sense man. Why the PS5 would be still in transit, when everyone having a hard pre-ordering it? It selling faster than hot cake.

relax dude, you are free to do your own counting and report back to us if you'd like.

lukasmain1950d ago

When you're making a guess, and then some REAL numbers come you way, you need to factor that into your guesses going forward. VGChartz IGNORE official numbers and that's a fact.

Neonridr1950d ago

@potatoseal - we don't have official numbers to this point. We have Sony's numbers from before, that's it. Supply is extremely constrained. Nobody said that VGChartz is perfect, but it certainly beats you or me going around saying a console sold X amount.

The PS5 is selling out everywhere, so demand is amazing. Numbers might be less than the PS4 due to supply constraints both down to the unique components in the PS5 plus covid affecting manufacturing / shipping.

lukasmain1950d ago

Last gen, Sony came out multiple times and stated they have SOLD THROUGH a certain amount of PS4's... and even with official numbers like that, VGChartz would still refuse to change their guesses to the correct number.

Neonridr1949d ago

@utopiancat - ok, then there's your numbers. Happier?

VG Chartz has always been useless unless they support some console warrior's agenda. Never pay them much mind.

They're probably not too far off if you look at Sony's comments, though. Which just shows how useless they are.

Sony shipped 4.5m and look to ship 1m per month essentially to get to that 7.6m number by end of March.

Initial launch shipments were using air freight, which is much faster, but much more expensive. I doubt they're still using it.

So shipping by sea from China, you're looking at 3-4 weeks of transit time. Thousands of distributors take it from there, with varying issues effecting retail.

So yeah, there's probably somewhere close to 5m in people's hands at this point. They'll hit that 7.6m target. Even if only 7m make it into people's hands by 3/31, all of those shipped consoles are "sold" even if some are still just in the pipeline.

lukasmain1950d ago (Edited 1950d ago )

Ok I'll pay that, it's a bit early and guess are probable pretty close.

But it's a fact that last gen, Sony came out multiple times and said they had 'sold through' a certain amount of PS4's and VGChartz would flat out refuse to change their 'guesses' to the official numbers that Sony report.

Atom6661949d ago

Yeah, they're truly useless.

One of their "sources" used to be Pachter, if that tells you anything.

TheProblem1949d ago (Edited 1949d ago )

It’s silly to think PS4 is ahead in aligned launch sales. We already know PS5 was playstations biggest ever launch.

Very difficult to make a fair comparison since the PS5 released over a world pandemic with limiting production and without units available in physical stores.

2 very and huge different scenarios which must be took in account.

1948d ago
kneon1948d ago

It's not only production that is affected. Shipping overseas has become a problem as there are far fewer flights. That has pushed prices way up and forced companies that would normally ship via air to start shipping with ships

Einhander19711949d ago

I don't care i have my ps5 anyway:)

Nodoze1949d ago

Nobody here can buy one.....anywhere. Despite the massive desire to do so. These sell through articles are salt int he wound. Most of those sold are sitting in basements of bot trolls being hawked for 2-5x retail price.

Sony needs to shut up about sales and start focusing on manufacturing. All Jim Ryan seems to be able to speak about is beating the PS4. He is a tool and needs to be replaced.

zahdab1949d ago

what's the point ? in both cases they sold as much as they produced ... it's not an indication of popularity just of how the production ramping up
