Stop Lying; Google Stadia is Not Dead

Google announced that they are closing Stadia Games & Entertainment, their first party game development studio, on the 1st February. People cried “Stadia is Dead!” It isn't. Stop lying.

“Google Stadia is NOT Dead”

It’s good as dead. Better now?

Futureshark1934d ago

Was it ever really alive?

SpadeX1934d ago (Edited 1934d ago )

It was for a couple of months I guess. Streaming games as a primary platform isn't something the world is ready for yet. I don't think it'll be the case anytime soon either. Google should have partnered with Valve instead to make Stadia act as a competitive cloud gaming platform for Steam.

For the few dozen people that still roam it's Reddit page.

I believe there are more people in the Mad Max universe.

Denial is strong with this one.

It's not lying it's the truth the thing is dying and like any business with a product you can only sink so much money into it. Once a product starts to bleed money and not generate money they will cut the excess fat meaning this thing will be placed next to Google Glass. Giving it way for free did not help Stadia out one bit people got the Stadia for free probably used it a few times then either put it on their shelf or decided to dump it off on Ebay. Again it also comes down to this a magazine rack of games which Stadia offers or a library of games Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have to offer.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing23d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9223d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit23d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing23d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9223d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Phil Spencer killed the Xbox Let It Go move on to PC

They would be better breaking up what valued assets they still have and put them out to auction for the competition.
There is no more financial gain for them on any trajectory in the entertainment space.
