Stadia has Failed and No One Should be Surprised

Alex S. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "From the very first time we heard the name ‘Stadia’, Google’s ‘disruptor’ approach to gaming, trying to take the lead on streaming fell flat and halfhearted so no one should be surprised that Stadia has failed."

Every game streaming service could fail for all I care. They’re all garbage at the end of the day.

chrisoadamson1948d ago

it doesnt support the biggest game out there (COD) ???? thats not saying much !

Vits1949d ago

Stadia was a big opportunity loss. The tech itself is pretty solid and the end product does offer the best quality out of any streaming service. However the bussiness model is just the worst, having to buy a lincense for each game that you plan on playing may work for traditional devices. But for a service that may go down at any time is just too much of a risk.

Stadia streaming quality wasn't the best tho

Vits1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

What is the best then? As far as I know it would be Stadia followed by GeForce Now.

anonymousfan1948d ago

Even if it had the best streaming quality (arguable) it was a bad overall package. Netflix is what it is today because they understood you have to have a good amount of value to the product you are selling at a low price even if that means you have to wait a few years before you start making a profit. Google jumped into this thinking they could turn a profit overnight. Idiots.

Vits1948d ago

Yeah. That's my point. A good service from the technical point of view, but a business model that made no sense.

Yet journalists will still write doom and gloom articles about traditional consoles

Unknown_Gamer57941948d ago

Shh...if you start saying crazy stuff like that, journalists might take the hint that they should write articles based in reality, and we wouldn't want them to do anything that would improve the quality of their work, now would we? /s

Down with greedy Google and yet another of their half-baked products.

ScootaKuH1949d ago (Edited 1949d ago )

I'm surprised it took this long.

I'm glad it failed. There's no place for a streaming only service. People like options

TeamIcoFan1949d ago

Listen up boomer!
You need to get with DA TIMEZ and be willing to let corporations control everything.
Not actually owning your games is what the cool kids are all about now!
Who cares if we're forced to pay a monthly fee for every single game 10 years from now? We're good little sheep who just wanna make Daddy corporate happy! /S

starsi3601948d ago

“I’m glad it failed”

“People like options”

How are these two statements not contradictory? The fact it failed is one less option for people to have!

ScootaKuH1948d ago (Edited 1948d ago )

You missed the bit where I said there's no place for a streaming ONLY service didn't you?

A service that only allows streaming takes the control of how a person consumes their content. Streaming as an option in addition to the offer of downloads or being able to buy physical media from more than one outlet is what I'm talking about. I love my PS5 but it wouldn't be so attractive if I could only stream games through PSN. I have options you see, I can buy games on disc, or download them. When control is taken out of the hands of the consumer then you have a problem

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio37d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing37d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9237d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit37d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing37d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9237d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
