I've always wondered why sony didn't just throw a check at them especially now that they see the competition doing exactly that at anything that has a dev team.

Cage likes remaining independent, which is why he takes investments but not buyouts. Can’t wait to see what they are working on. They make amazing games.

Garethvk1939d ago

I think there is much to say about a studio not having to toe the party line. It used to be they were hired to make a game for a company and the company knew if you did not want them going on to make things for others; you treated them fairly. If not they would move on as soon as they could. The ones that had good working relations remained or became part of the company.

Ninja Theory liked remaining independent also, but look at them now. Everything has a price.

gamer78041939d ago

@silly. Tencent has a ton of money, probably all they needed right now

@gamer

Sooooo, if you need money from someone else to keep you afloat, does that make you independent, or make you someone that has to do what they have to do to survive?

QD didn't have to take that money, because they had support, but I guess that money was enough to blow the support they had off, even if they were supported by them for years with no questions asked. But, I don't know the reasons behind why most of these companies do what they do. As long as we get good games out of it, who cares.

gamer78041939d ago (Edited 1939d ago )

@silly well never know all the reasons but cage said he wanted to expand and have multiple projects going on and continue research for their games. It all takes investments to do that, so they could have stayed afloat with Sony but sounds like they wanted to expand and do more things which they’d need the extra money to do while still staying independent.

Good point. With a new game coming you have to think this either may be coming or they missed out big time.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing27d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit27d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing27d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
