Nintendo has a number of high-quality titles, and it's hard to boil down to 5 games, but here are our top 5.

In my opinion, Xenoblade doesn't have any buisness being on a top 5 list for the Switch.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Splatoon 2
Ring Fit Adventure
Super Mario Maker 2
Luigi's Mansion 3
Heck even Pokémon Sword and Shield

All of those and more I would put in far above Xenoblade. It's a good game, but has glaring problems, particularly in performance and voice acting that I think holds it back from greatness, especially when you compare it to other fantastic titles on the Switch that have mastered their craft.

Goodness Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing have combined sold over 50 million copies. Xenoblade is at 2 million. Nothing to slouch at, but when compared to the heavy hitters.. I wouldn't say it's a 'top' game.

Ugh there I go being negative, everyone has an opinion and this is theirs. I just disagree and got a bit triggered that they have both Xenoblade games on their list instead of others that in my mind are essential for switch owners. I mean sure, MK8 is a remake of a Wii U game.. and yet it is the highest selling game on the platform by a wide margin, it's fantastic, if you have a switch, you should get it. If that doesn't warrant a top spot I don't know what does.

For starters, sales doesn't automatically equal quality of course. There have been amazing games which have sold poorly, and we've seen mediocre games selling many millions of copies.

Mario Kart 8 is, by most accounts, a must-have game for the Switch. And most Switch owners will have it. It's a 1st party Mario game aimed at a wide audience, young and old. It's a fantastic game within its genre.

But I can understand how a game like Xenoblade would make a bigger impact on someone, especially a SP gamer, cause it literally takes you on an adventure, which lasts you dozens, if not hundreds of hours.

Mario Kart will provide you with a great time, but it's pick up & play, and then you turn it off and it won't occupy your thoughts, it won't touch your feelings, there is little to no emotional bond between you and a story, or characters, in a way a SP game lile Xenoblade, or Dragon Quest, or Zelda manages to achieve.

performance doesn't make it a bad game. Hell Star Fox on SNES runs at 15 fps and it's beloved. Sure the resolution takes a hit here and there, but it's still an awesome story.

esherwood1942d ago (Edited 1942d ago )

Guess to each there own. Animal crossing truly baffles me. Even most games I don’t like I can understand the appeal but animal crossing I really don’t get. I kinda thought it was just the Nintendo name carrying it but for how much people liked it I’m guessing it’s just me. Just seemed like even the stuff it was trying to do they didn’t put effort into making fun like catching bugs, it was just tedious

DCarnage1942d ago

Ring fit adventure lol wut?! Seriously though, Xenoblade 2 was a great game. I take it you're not into ARPGs because I don't see BotW in your top five, I do see Pokemon but that was an afterthought for you. But I respect your opinion, everyone has their own tastes. My buddy only likes sports games and nothing else ugh...

Wait, I just read the rest of your post, you said you were "triggered". Wow, Grow up.

septemberindecember1942d ago

@DCarnage

Dude, don't knock ring fit. I did at first. Bought the game for my girlfriend and we've both put in over 60 hours. It's fun and challenging. Better than Wii fit, imo

DCarnage1942d ago

@septemberindecember

Hmm, I may have to try it out. Weird that I can't reply to your post. I prefer the gym as I go there at least 4 times a week and has a hot tub but has been shut down for obvious reasons... I may try Ring Fit out as I did enjoy Wii Fit. But damn, Xenoblade 2 was a lot of fun (to me). Also, glad you weren't triggered lol.

septemberindecember1941d ago

@DCarnage

Yeah, you can only reply directly to the OP and a direct commenter on N4G. The rest gets lumped up into a single thread. It's pretty dumb

I would say the gym is better for a workout overall, but the pandemic closed every one of the gyms in my area, so I was pretty much forced. Even then, it's still a pretty cool game. The only thing I wish is that they worked a bit more with strength (some workouts are painfully easy) and that you could incorporate weights somehow. Right now I squat with a dumbbell in the game, but thats the only workout routine that I've found to work with weights.

Lol and no worries about the triggered thing. Getting triggered over videogames is lame. That word used to be used with those that have PTSD. Now everyone uses it to mean they don't like something. Eye rolling for sure.

The games you listed besides Luigi don’t interest me at all . I am not pressed to play Luigi but have a small interest in it . These types of games aren’t bad necessarily but Ithey don’t interest me anymore and haven’t for a long time .

jznrpg1941d ago

Totally disagree. Two of the best games on the Switch in my opinion

Fraggle19871942d ago

Not a great deal to choose from tbh

jznrpg1941d ago (Edited 1941d ago )

I agree . There’s 6 games I recommend and some more coming I want but it’s not enough especially to warrant the sales they are achieving . It’s a good little machine but needs more games not in the kiddy arena

septemberindecember1942d ago

This list isn't bad, but mine would be (in no order)

Smash Ultimate
BotW
Xenoblade 2
Luigi's Mansion 3
Fire Emblem 3 Houses

esherwood1942d ago

Fire emblem was my favorite so far, wish they’d pump those out more often

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has the best soundtrack of any Switch exclusive game.

repsahj1942d ago (Edited 1942d ago )

...cool!! i really enjoy playing xenoblade chronicles 2, im also imagining it playing on ps5. Will be awesome indeed. I think i like it more than ff15 and ff7remake(even its my best rpg of all time.).

Whilst true let’s not forget this is a Nintendo “sale.” Not much of a bargain worldwide anyways lol

Fantastic game. By far my favorite 3D Mario.

repsahj203d ago

I bought the switch 1 Mario odyssey bundle when it came out. Good thing Nintendo didn't charge for the switch 2 upgrade.

Soy203d ago

Most pure fun I had with any Mario game since Super Mario World.

Bit like comparing a truck to a car.

8bitAssassin259d ago

Donkey Kong is an average game. Mario Kart is now neutered and watered down. I'm hoping Metroid is at least above average.

Neonridr259d ago

Donkey Kong had so much more than they showed in the direct. Not to spoil anything but considering people were assuming there'd be like 4 or 5 "worlds" in total, many were shocked to find out just how far the game keeps going.

I'm having a blast with the game myself, but to each their own. MK is a solid entry in the series, is it the best? Debatable. But it's not like it's a bad game at all.

8bitAssassin258d ago

I feel your assessment. The destruction & playability in DK is phenomenal. MK has a ton to unluch and some dope tracks. It's something about both that didn't punch in areas where it needed the most.

Shiro173258d ago

Mario odyssey definitely beats DKB but it's not to say DKB is a bad game at all.

gold_drake203d ago

i wouldnt compare these games at all.

but, having played both, Odyssey is the better game.
