Returnal Release Date Trailer – March 19th 2021

Break the cycle. Returnal comes to #PS5 on March 19.

purple1011977d ago

Day one. Need a ps5 first though.

And I'm not payin' £70

SullysCigar1977d ago

Really looking forward to this. These guys make great games and this time they've had more time and budget - highly anticipated!

lifeisgamesok1977d ago

Sci-fi horror puts this at the top of my most anticipated list and for that Housemarque fun/addicting gameplay

*chef's kiss*

mikeslemonade1977d ago

This game won’t be that good. Look at the developer.

1977d ago
SmokinAces1977d ago

Ok Mike I looked and you're wrong.

SullysCigar1976d ago

^ @mikeslemonade, this developer have an excellent track record for highly rated and much loved games.

mikeslemonade1972d ago (Edited 1972d ago )

^Then you guys don't know. These guys haven't made a AAA game before. They haven't made a third person action/adventure game. They have been making like only shootem ups.

lifeisgamesok1977d ago

I'm paying the $70 but that's my limit on game prices

RgR1977d ago

Uh huh.

Why was 70$ your limit?

Could it be the artificially priced special editions last gen?

Those same special editions will likely be 80$ this time around. Will your limit go up to 80$?

I'm not buying anything at 70$
I'll just have to wait for the deals to roll in.

RememberThe3571977d ago

$60 was my limit. Bought two games last year at full price, everything else was on sale. Won't buy any games at full price this gen, I think. No reason to, really.

lifeisgamesok1976d ago

@RgR I never bought special editions I always just get the standard copy

Palitera1977d ago (Edited 1977d ago )

It will be the first Housemarque game in a long time that I won't buy, at least not at this price.
First they gave up on arcade shooters in favor of doing another battle royale in a sea of battle royales.
And now this... Triple A price for their game.
Considering how they abandoned Nex Machina immediately after the launch and all this, I guess they are not even the same anymore. Wouldn't surprise me to see they jump into gachas, F2Ps and DLC heavy games in their complete despair for money over quality.

1977d ago
CrimsonWing691977d ago

Yea man, I hear you. It’s tough to hold out but I can’t support the new standard of $70 a pop. It’s times like these that I miss Best Buy’s Gamer Club discounts.

1977d ago
Silver_Faux1977d ago

The company was not doing great financially and had to take some drastic changes in order to stay financially viable. Would you rather they didn't exist?

oldenjon1977d ago

Why is everyone whining about the price? You’ve heard of inflation before right? Ya’ll a bunch of misers.

Palitera1976d ago

oldenjon:
Nice "inflation" from indie to AAA price. /facepalm

Silver_Faux:
Some would simply prefer they kept true to their game, instead of (1) jumping into the generic bandwagon of battle royales (so generic that even they stated they lost their "unique selling point" during the development) and (2) overpricing their game as an AAA production to purely benefit from the lack of games in the beginning of generations.

Let's see what happen... Their ridiculous bet at battle royale costed a big loss (again, their statement). Now, what if the latest overprice doesn't pay off? It surely isn't just a matter of "ok, we can just lower the price later", because the near release window is when most of the purchases happen. It can pay off, surely, but IMO it's a tremendous mistake and can actually cost the survival of the company.

I really hope this scheme doesn't pay off (but they survive) and that "triple indies" don't follow the trend of overpricing their releases.

But the physical version and you could easily find it cheaper

Z5011977d ago

Are you one of those people that bought GTA5 twice?

ANIALATOR1361977d ago

Yep 70 quid is just extortionate

ArchangelMike1977d ago

Yeah, that next gen price point is a bummer.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1977d ago

This is one of the few games I'll buy for 70.

InUrFoxHole1976d ago

I would pass on this for $70. It does make me think though. As tough a pill it is to swallow. If uncharted or gow are $70 ill still be playing day 1.

Storm231977d ago

This and Ratchet are my most looked forward to games. Yes Horizon, GoW:R, etc...will be amazing, but I just want to have fun and shoot some stuff haha.

jznrpg1977d ago

Day 1 and I’ll pay full price to support Housemarque

I_am_Batman1977d ago

I feel like charging full price is a mistake in this case. Not because the game doesn't justify that price (we don't know if it does), but because Housemarque haven't proven themselves in the AAA sector yet. There is a lot of competition at that price and I feel like Returnal would have a much better chance at a lower price point.

LiViNgLeGaCY1977d ago

Yeah. I'm definitely getting this game because it looks great in my opinion, but even something like $10 cheaper could go a long way in securing more sales. I really want this to succeed.

JEECE1977d ago

Yeah although I understand that this is a bigger project than their earlier games, they still haven't shown me anything that tells me it's a full AAA game. While I wouldn't expect a $20-30 price, I figured it would be in the $40-50 range. I'm going to get it, particularly because there is so little out right now that is actually made for PS5 rather than PS4, but I unfortunately don't see this being a big seller.

oldenjon1976d ago

Or perhaps they are confident the game is worth that price, and will let the reviews speak to its value

I_am_Batman1976d ago

@oldenjon: I'm sure they are confident, but relying on reviews to sell a game is not a smart strategy. I'm just not seeing the marketing campaign one would expect for a Sony published full price title. There's still time for that, but they need to show off the scope/production value of this game more.

Housemarque Reveals It Has No Plans For Live Service Or Free-To-Play Title

Ilari Kuittinen and Gregory Louden of Returnal developer Housemarque have revealed during an interview with Eurogamer at the studio’s 30th anniversary event last week that it has no plans to develop live-service or free-to-play games, “as long as people are buying premium games.”

kpgs380d ago (Edited 380d ago )

Why would they change? That's not where their expertise is.

Redgrave380d ago (Edited 380d ago )

Didn't stop Sony after acquiring Bluepoint, taking them from renowned remaster and remake quality and sticking them on a GoW live service title that never even went anywhere.

I can't speak to what gives Housemarque the ability to be different, but let's be thankful that they are able to do so in wake of current Sony.

380d ago
derek380d ago

That GoW live service game was the dumbest idea ever. I thought they were remaking Bloodbourne or a Demons souls expansion (covering that broken arch stone). Sony was really panicked after that abk/Microsoft news hit. I hope it was a side project for Bluepoint and that there's another one in the pipeline. That GoW game apparently never got off the ground.

Eonjay380d ago (Edited 380d ago )

Blaming Sony for pursuing Live Service when the top 5 games every month by spend and engagement are live service games is illogical. Gamers are telling Sony where to invest so there is a real disconnect between what is said online and what people actually play. Who should Sony listen to? Clearly the logical decision is to listen to people actually playing games and whether we like it or not Sony would be in vioulation of it duty to its investors if it didn't try to pursue LS. People taking out their fustrations on Live Service games by attacking Sony and using it as the industry whipping boy does not fix the industry. You are just telling the rest of the industry that they can keep doing what they are doing because they aren't called Sony. All I hear people say is that they hate live service but every single month the top games are live service. You are all either lying or you don't know what you are talking about. Sony should pursue both SP and live service games.

Returnal ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ patch now available

Housemarque: "Returnal PS5 Pro Enhanced Patch is Out Now! Featuring up to 2.5X the pixels on PS5 Pro for a higher resolution experience of Returnal."

Crazyglues402d ago

Wow this is amazing, I was just replaying this game on Ps5 and loving it again, and now a patch for the Pro... Amazing... Can't wait to check it out on the Pro now...

This game needs a part 2 so bad... One of my favorite Ps5 true nex gen games... Love HourseMarque for this...

IF you have not played this do yourself a favor and get it, it's a hell of a game, tough but super fun to play.
-Love this Game

garos82402d ago

it remains my favourite PS5 exlusive till date. severely underrated

RaiderNation402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

It's also still the only new first party IP released this generation on PS5. Everything else has either been sequels or remakes/remasters.

RaiderNation402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

To those who disagree, please let me know what other new IP Sony has released this generation besides Returnal. Go ahead, I'll wait. And Concord doesn't count because Sony recalled it.

RaiderNation402d ago

@Knushwood Butt

Lmao! You're seriously counting Concord? A game Sony pulled off the shelves and refunded gamers after what, two weeks? That is weak!

VersusDMC402d ago

@RaiderNation

For New IP Sony published Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade and Lost Soul Aside on the third party end.

Fairgames, Saros and Intergalactic are the next new IP for first Party.

But does anyone even care about new IP? People love Valve and Nintendo but Valve doesn't even make games anymore and Nintendo doesn't make New IP that often.

StormSnooper402d ago (Edited 402d ago )

It’s a great game.

@raider
But we have had more exclusives than the competition (do they even have any anymore?), and some of those are 2nd party exclusives such as Stellar Blade, Rise of Ronin, Final Fantasy Rebirth, Quantum Error, Neptunia ReVerse, Shines Over: The Damned, etc.

Then we have the first party exclusives such as: Astro Bot, Astro's Playroom (Free with PS5), Demon's Souls (yeah it’s remake but feels like a new game to me), Destruction AllStars (Free with PS Plus), Spider-Man 2, etc.

Then, there is VR games on PSVR2.

I want to try out the patch, I want to complete the game - but I can't because I can't get past the first world. And before you jump to tell me to 'get good' I tried and I couldn't!

Knushwood Butt401d ago

Venom

Did you get as far as the first boss?

Storm23401d ago

@Venom Do you play on PS5? I would play co-op with you. Or a friend could play co-op with you. I have beaten the game a few times (been a while) and have played a lot of the Tower dlc. A friend could help you complete it.

It’s a great game but why does this comment sound so much like it was AI written…. They’re among us!

Stwert401d ago

I have to agree with some of the comments regarding new IP in the PS5 generation, it has been woefully lacking to say the least. Even worse when you consider the excellent games we got in basically every other PlayStation generation.

On the bright side, Sony has finally noticed, publicly admitted and resolved to rectify the situation. Right now I can think of at least half a dozen new IP in development for PlayStation 5, the only downside is that none of them are near ready for release. So we’ve still got a fair wait.

But you know what they say, good things come to those who wait. I’ve a ridiculous backlog of games to keep me going for quite some time across four platforms. So I’ll wait (im)patiently.

Abear21401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Stellar blade and Returnal plus GT7 is greater than any “exclusives” trio on any other console. Pro upgrades have been gravy as most of us normie gamers enjoy third party releases too.

I’ll say it again, GTA6 is coming and, like most other games (included those ported from other consoles), Pro will be the best version unless you sit at a desk on PC to play. Oh wait, PC version coming in 6 months to a year, don’t hold your breath.

One of the best games this gen

Elda402d ago

I've got to try some Returnal again on my PS5 Pro, it's one of my favorite games this generation.

Luc20402d ago

That's great news! Because of the coop mode I was able to beat some bosses. Gonna play more after the update
