Not much of an update. It’s been 3 years since Bayonetta 3’s announcement; the lack of a gameplay reveal or in-engine trailer is concerning.

Dabigsiebowski1971d ago

Why? It's not ready? Maybe they should have shown off incomplete builds from years ago instead?

Sciurus_vulgaris1971d ago

It’s been 3 years. AAA titles that aren’t large RPGs or Open World games typical have development cycles of about 3 years. Platinum likes to work on multiple games at once despite not being too large of a studio.

I'm all for developers showing stuff when they are ready to show it... but come on, that should extend to game announcements, too. Bayonetta 3 was announced 3 freaking years ago, and they shouldn't have done it if it wasn't anywhere close to being in a showable state...

I am not surprised here because Nintendo tends to keep its top uocoming games under wrap. Same goes to BOTW sequel. When the release window is eminent, they will show some gameplay via Nintendo Direct.

Lately Nintendo's MO has been to announce games within months of release. See: Paper Mario and Pikmin 3 deluxe, the Mario collection + 3D world. Astral Chain was announced within 5 months or so.

I think it's possible Astral Chain and the ports of Bayo 1 and 2 were given priority over Bayo 3 from Nintendo as publisher so they had a new IP to point to and so Platinum could get a handle on the hardware.

Nintendo keeps pushing Wii ports and remasters/“remasters” of older tiles due to profitability. I still find Bayonetta 3’s development concerning.

BattleCat1971d ago

Bayonetta, Metroid.... Nintendo.....
Yeah but we have the fake remasters from the wiiu....

Nintentional1970d ago

Would you rather the games released unfinished like Cyber Punk? Then you’d be crying about how they should have been delayed lol

Michiel19891970d ago

the wii u first party titles were actually really good, im glad to see them remastered so more people will play them. Look at mk8 for example, would have been a waste for such an amazing game to not be played by more people.

I’ll never understand why these get announced early. Does it help generate hype and buzz? I honestly forgot about this game it’s been so long. I feel like companies should announce these from a year to 6 months to release. That’s what Capcom has been doing and when you think about it that keeps the hype and interest alive the longest instead of stretching it out for 3 to 4 years or however long it’ll take for this to come out.

Another stupid example is Shin Megami Tensei V. The damn game was announced like near the Switch launch and we still haven’t seen much nor do we have any clue when it’ll come out.

Kubark1970d ago

Remember Lost Soul Aside? There was gameplay shown a couple of years back, now, nothing. I forgot all about it until the name popped into my head the other day.

Majin-vegeta1970d ago

LSA was a tech demo when it was shown and being worked on by one person. It wasn't later till that year he was contacted by various publishers. And decided to go with Sony.Pretty sure we can let it slide.

Riku071970d ago

Shin megami tensei v is coming out next year. Likely in summer or fall of next year. They announced it like a few months ago but we haven't seen any gameplay yet though.

CrimsonWing691970d ago

2021 is the year of the Tensei then. Really looking forward to Nocturne HD Remaster.

I have a feeling Bayonetta 3 is going to look extra dated if it just releases on switch. Trying to find the right techniques to stay 60 FPS at 1080p and to stay dynamic in gameplay that can match or exceed say dmcv is probably going to be next to impossible on base switch.

Lexreborn21970d ago

It looks good, but i wouldn’t say it looks great. I’ve got the game and it’s very mobile esque. It doesn’t hold a candle to games like DMCV in that respect either.

But that’s to be expected given the hardware. I just don’t see B3 pushing higher then that without serious drawbacks

talocaca1970d ago

This game was announced way too early. At this point I'm not even certain it will release in 2021 🤷‍♂️ also worried it might look extremely dated.

My issue with the games is that because each one is a different Universe you feel like you don't have a good development arc for the characters as each game is a reset. It felt like a cheap way to start a new game without writing around what you wrote or how you ended things in the last game.

It's a concept that's made the games overall story more confusing then it should be.

You have to be fair with them , knowing that the first game was multiplatform under platinum and sega . second& third are both exclusive Nintendo games . I’m guessing some kind of trade off had to be done for the exclusivity deal with one of the demands being to create a new storyline for the Nintendo games . That came with new lore , new characters and new stakes . As of recently it is said that platinum games re-acquired the rights to bayonetta from sega/Nintendo . I can expect the next game to be more akin to the original game and follow that storyline .

Neonridr27d ago

that report is a rumour completely. As of now Bayonetta is still owned by Sega with Nintendo's involvement for future entries.

@neon

Oh really ? Welp that’s a bummer .
