Future PS5 Update Will Allow Console to Output 8K Resolutions

A future update for the PS5 will allow it to output resolutions up to 8K.

BigBosss2008d ago

That's great and all but we still need 2k resolution support please.

IRetrouk2008d ago

Not sure why you got disagrees because it should be supported, probably will be in an update tbf, if enough users ask for it.

Bathyj2007d ago

It was probably always going to be in an update. People just want to jump on things.

Neonridr2007d ago

@Bathyj - I think it's down to the fact that it shouldn't be something left to an update later on. Enough people out there use 1440p monitors and stuff that there shouldn't have been any good reason not to have it from the start.

TheScotsman2007d ago

2k is an ugly res, 4k or 1080p is best, and Sony don't support it cause more people running 4k than 1440 these day so it's a dying res, unless you've been hoodwinked into the series S

Livingthedream2007d ago

Alot of pc monitors support 1440p, whether it's dying or not, why would anyone be against Sony supporting the res. I imagine more people care about 1440p, thank knowing how many hours they spent playing a specific game.

UltraNova2007d ago (Edited 2007d ago )

It doesn't mean they shouldn't support 2K. Lots of people requested it and I can't see any reason the hardware can't support it.

Neonridr2007d ago

play on PC and then tell me that. I'll take 1440p @ 144/165 fps over 4K at 30fps.

phoenixwing2007d ago (Edited 2007d ago )

i game on a 2k monitor it's not marketing reasons to want it. It's a nice bump up from 1080p while also not being taxing on your system. A lot of pc gamers game at 2k. The only reason to game at 4k is if you bought the extreme end of graphics card that will do 4k super easy, otherwise for most people 2k is great while not being a resource hog. Also, there's a ratio of pixel density for monitors and viewing distances and 2k easily fills that void while not being overkill like 4k would be

lonewolf102007d ago

1440p is an ugly res, huh? Then you say 1080p is better, erm. so tell me what is ugly about 1440p and it is not a dying res for monitors (hardly any if any TV's were 1440p max res) where are you making this up from?

Hardly anyone will even get to use the feature. 8k is basically marketing. I would bet less than 1% of users have a TV capable of 8k. Am I wrong?

Freshnikes2007d ago

Nope your right . Also Who uses 2k ? ( the other 1% )

ClayRules20122007d ago

You’re correct, potatoseal.

Bladesfist2007d ago (Edited 2007d ago )

The steam hardware survey has some interesting results for the most popular primary display resolutions on PC (Technically, PC's with steam installed).
1080p is clearly still the most common resolution, 1440p is about 3 times more common than 4k.

1920 x 1080 65.67%
1366 x 768 9.14%
2560 x 1440 6.75%
1440 x 900 2.99%
1600 x 900 2.31%

3840 x 2160 2.30%

The n4g Faithful always are keep to remind us that pc gamers are all at 4k

andy852007d ago (Edited 2007d ago )

I guess it's down to desire for it, i agree it should have it, but the vast majority of PC Gamers are on a monitor, of which you get 1440 ones of course and it's a sweet spot for resolution/fps. Where as the vast majority of console gamers are on a TV, of which there aren't 1440 ones. I guess they didn't think it was needed (it should be an option though, but that just means a lot of optimisation work for a very limited market

Eidolon2002d ago (Edited 2002d ago )

Pretty weird they don't support that since Xbox One X did last gen. But from a business and demographic perspective, they probably just don't care as much as they need to. There are probably more PC(Windows) users that game on Xbox than PS4, the 1440p support is kind of a given, seeing as they might use the same monitor they play PC games on. 1440p is more common because it's easier to hit target framerates and is less expensive($ for monitor), it's purely PC gamer/economic statistics. They will also say it's not worth the extra pixels at the viewing distance or whatever. Now the demographic of PC gamers who have 1440p monitors(without higher res downsampling) and want to purchase many games for PS5 is probably not as much as gamers in general who game on TV's. There's no in between on TV's, it's 1080p or 4K, and I would BET 90% of console games are using a TV. Guess where Sony is going to focus all their manpower on. Sony isn't losing out on much, but of course it'd be nice to have an option.

bRuud832007d ago (Edited 2007d ago )

I have yet to buy a 4K television so why bother about 8K resolution.

autobotdan2007d ago

The question is will covid-19 be around when 8k console games arrive on the market?
