Growing Up on Mass Effect

BY STANLEY CIRIGLIANO: Growing up, video games have always been a huge part of my life. From the time I was 4 years old playing The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64. To getting the PlayStation 2 a few years later and playing Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. Then when I was around 8 years old, I remember coming home from school one day and there it was: the Xbox 360. My stepdad had gone out and brought it for himself but in my own head, it was mine.

Since then I have always been team green. From Dead Rising to Oblivion to Halo to Gears of War. I spent a ridiculous amount of hours on Halo Reach with friends. Noble Six will always be in my heart. But there has always been one game series that has risen above the rest. One that I still replay yearly to this day.

Mass Effect.

What makes the Mass Effect and the Mass Effect Trilogy so special?

That picture from Andromeda looks like she is from an Hannibal Lectre movie lol. ME is a great franchise I love it I like the space setting the characters are memorable and great. I hate Miranda Lawson I enjoy killing her off Thane, Garrus, Zaeed, Tali, Grunt, Kasumi and EDI are my favorite characters. It was all smooth sailing until EA became a bigger threat then the Reapers ruined Bioware. You had people jumping ship at Bioware who worked on all three games and made the three games shine. I think that is why ME Andromeda fell flat the new Bioware team compared to the old Bioware team are in two different ball fields. To me Andromeda felt rushed and shoved out the door especially with EA breathing down their necks to rush the game with out care. And we all saw how that turned out with how ME Anrdomeda preformed when it came to store shelves. I walk into Gamestop I can grab a new copy of ME Anromeda for $10 and I did that. Just hope the new Bioware team a former shell of what it use to be and EA the biggest threat then the Reapers don't do a botch job on the trilogy that is suppose to come out.

Mass Effect - N7 DAY 2025

Bioware writes: "Like you, we’ve heard the rumors lately. You’ve made it clear you care deeply about what’s next. So let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe."

I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed

Like with Fallout, it's starting to feel studios are using TV / Film adaptations when they have no game info to talk about.

toxic-inferno185d ago

I feel the same way.

I mean, how difficult would it be for them to release SOMETHING of substance? Another short trailer? A couple of proper hints? A short story set during the original trilogy, but focused on fringe characters?

Hopefully they're working so hard on the game that they don't have time. But still, with every passing year and so little to show, the franchise will be slipping further and further from people's minds.

Profchaos185d ago

Yeah agree it's almost a cop out since Dev times are 5 to 10 years just throw out a few seasons instead you get them done in a year

I still haven’t beat Andromeda. I am waiting for a lull of good games in my backlog

P_Bomb185d ago

So the TV show will take place after the OG trilogy. I wonder which ending they’ll use?

Should’ve just posted a picture of an Elcor saying “regretfully, we have nothing to share.”

anast519d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine518d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast518d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman518d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast518d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave766d ago (Edited 766d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
