No. Its not the same thing. The Tempest can emulate sounds coming from almost infinite (or seemingly infinite) sources while the xbox will only have directional sources. So, you will know roughly where the sound is coming from on xbox, but not the specific place from which it is coming. Unless something has changed with Dolby’s tech since a couple of weeks ago?

If you read this article, it might clear things up. The dev is talking about individual raindrops on top of your helmet. On xbox you can only tell that the sound of rain is coming from above.

Well, we know that Sony has stated that the Tempest can do hundreds of sources as opposed to Dolby’s more limited sources. We also know that Dolby responded to Sony’s statement by saying that their tech could do more sources too but that too many sources can lead to audio confusion. So, reading between the lines, Dolby is saying that they have encountered a problem with higher number of audio sources. Therefore, if Sony can in fact do what they claimed and while bypassing the problem of audio confusion, then the Tempest is a superior tech to Dolby’s.

Looking at this article, they are talking about individual rain drops on your helmet etc... it sounds like the Tempest has pulled off the feat without audio confusion. BUT I guess we will have to wait and see.

Sorry, but DF dont have a ps5 to analyze the tempest audio yet, besides we are talking about DF the same DF that use the zoom for all ps games and not so for xbox ones.
