To this day I remember when micro transactions came in and same fanboys were defending saying it's only cosmetics, than it's only online and now it's in single player games(assassin's Creed Odyssey XP) boosters are prime example yet people defended ubi and the game saying you can just grind when it showed this game Was definitely developed with making the grind harder so people are more open to just paying. Now take two has been pushing the envelope last year there 2k nba was basically a casino game and that wasn't enough so now they are adding unskipable ads

We the gamers are the biggest hypocrites because we will defend something when we like it and we'll hate on something when we dislike it regardless whether it deserves either or not

Name one PlayStation executive that is on power with Major Nelson. Or even Phil Spencer you never see PlayStation or nintendo executives take cheap shots but this is Ms 4th home console and their brand is an all time low with 72% of gamers in usa placing their pre orders on Playstation instead of Xbox

I respectfully disagree, this is more like the Hundred Years' War for video games. And as long as players associate brand with identity, which fuels the need to be right, one gamer is always going to dislike another.

Console wars will continue to exist so long as consumers want to dislike one another based on their preference of platform. The consumer-base has allowed for media and the companies they support to infuse hatred within the masses. The individual urge to "be right" about a purchase will out way the desire to "feel good" about the console the individual desires to play-on if the consumer base continues to relish in the chaos caused by media and the various brands within the industry.

The only consumers winning around here are the scalpers.. Winning would have been being able to pre-order a console during its launch year and not the year after. Consumers will win once these consoles are actually available to be purchased. Been waiting for the PS5 for years and who knows how much longer i will have to wait now.

Personally I think the tribalism is worse than it's ever been. Just look at the comments on this very site. The way a lot of these people post, one would assume they are children who for some reason have attached their own self-worth to their platform of choice. And that's insane. But I think it's less about the consoles and more about the times we live in.

I was a teen when the Genesis and SNES came out. And I never had, or heard of, any argument over which was better back then. Most kids either had both, or were completely happy with whichever one they had. I had only Genesis. And I loved it. Never sat around dwelling on what I didn't have.

So long as there are alternatives for people to invest, be it in gaming or any other consumer base industry, the "war" is never over. It'll only be over when there's only 1 giant company selling everything to us. So either when Tencent, or Amazon take over the world which won't happen

A ps4 and x1 still cost 300 or more to buy. How in any sense is the consumer winning. The systems are 7 years old and a $100 more than they cost a year ago.

You are wrong. As long as people tend to stick to some brand, there will be always "wars" between brands through whole industry. So as long as MS and Sony will make consoles, there will be customer brand war. Simply as that, always was like that. And its nothing bad. But people should not be toxic.

Xbox360 mounted a massive slur campaign before PS3 came out, all I remember seeing is PS3 is this, PS3 is that, underpowered, etc etc. Even though both consoles produced 4.4gpixels. exactly the same.

Even with xbox360 having a 1 year start with PS3 selling at a high price and hard to program for PS3.

The games that came out for PS3 were amazing, and justified buying the console, from uncharted,killzone,motorstorm, resistance for me,god of war and many others.

It produces killer games and keeps pumping them out year after year.

The PS5 will pump out exclusives and quality like no other, the devs that work exclusively are on another level, with only 3rd party games such as COD,GTA selling bucket loads on each system.

Console war is the term used to represent the competition in the console market.

No different then the existing competition in sports or graphic cards or any other area.
Console wars end the moment there is only one console standing...and in that case the consumers will likely be screwed.

Console wars should never end just as sports competitions shouldn't.

I do truly agree. I haven't been this excited for a next gen consoles since the Xbox 360 era. I have been following all the news leading up to these consoles now for a year, listening to podcasts, going to websites, watching the showcases, reading fanboy wars back and forth. This has been a fun cycle, can't wait to get my hands on them, not to mention can't believe i was able to get a hold of a 3090 FTW3 Ultra yesterday. Times are bright even in the darkest of times. Hope everybody is as excited as me, good gaming to all. Now comes the fun times of where the hell we are going to fit these things in our entertainment units.... LOL.

It's over with Sony's victory as usual.

Thanks to PS4 (and to some degree Switch) this is true.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Is this like the 10th quarter in a row they're down 33% on hardware how is that even mathematically possible. You would think their mediocrity would Plateau
