The stand actually screws on which is great. Makes it so much more stable.

The disc drive is very low.
The PSU is at the base of the system.
The heatsink is located above and behind the PSU.
Motherboard and M.2 slot are also situated low in the system.
The fan is at the top where most of the empty space and plastic outer structure is.
This isn't likely too top heavy and PS5 is over a kg lighter than the first commercially available PS3s.

Disc Drives don't weigh too much at all these days compared to the rest of the components, and you cant rely on a disc drive on the digital version for weight distribution.

Yes, the PSU is at the base of the system but the whole system is still pretty damn tall.

The heatsink most likely being the heaviest component runs along almost the entire length at the front of the system besides where the PSU is located which brings more weight to the top of the system.

A motherboard would do very little in regards to weight distribution.

So it wont be too top heavy like you said but this system can easily be tipped over if you aren't careful. Basically my point behind my comment is to just use the damn stand the system comes with. Im not trying to dismiss or discredit the build and design of this system. I love the design and cant wait to get my hands on one. Im just trying to help people who want to make poor choices by not using the stand its coming with.

No it doesn't. It means built using a different node. The PS4 is built on 28nm finfet process, but the pro and slim is 14nm. THAT is why the slim can be smaller. It's always because of a die shrink. Smaller die, less heat, no need for more fans

Theres EVO's Out there now that are already comparable to the PS5 SSD Speeds. And I'm pretty sure Samsung manufactured the SSD for the PS5 back when they were first showing off Spider man back before the PS5 was ever announced. So most likely all the new EVO SSD's out there will end up being compatible. Thats just my theory and opinion though. I could be completely wrong.

Edit: Sorry the 980 PRO (not EVO specifically) 1 TB has read speeds reaching 7000 MB/s, 6900MB/s for the 512GB and 6400MB/s for the 250 GB model. So I'm sure these would at least be on the compatibility list.

You're assuming. The 980 Pro is faster, but it's also not directly hard-wired to the board and doesn't have the 6 levels of priority that the Sony memory has. It isn't known yet how much faster and 3rd party drive needs to be in order to work. That's why they said to wait until they have certified a drive before buying anything. Cerney even said there probably won't be anything certified until after the launch of the PS5.

Yes the fan will still likely make some noise. But given it's huge size and that of the heat sink it will likely be a very very quiet noise.

Additionally because power input is relatively static and the flow of electricity is what generates the most heat the system will likely be no louder than my ultra fat gaming laptop which is like 1/4 as loud as my launch model PS4 under maximum load (I could of course make my laptop about 50% louder than my launch model PS4 by artificially bringing it's two fans up to 4,500 RPMs though - I don't have any other PS4s I stuck with my pre-order unit).

Oh the video was cool and the dude(obviously) made it look easy. But the stand/base solution is... Something. It's so huge they had to use a screw for it. It's not simple and/or fast.

That stand is awesome. Rather have it permanent and sticking out of the side when you have it horizontal like another competing console? no thank you

@crazy so you'll be looking at your console instead of the tv or monitor when you're using it. Ok, I get it. To each their own, I guess. The stand on the other console is, what, less than 1cm and the same color as the console itself which can be just turned vertical or horizontal but of course you'll prefer the Sony method no matter how much more complicated it is.

I really liked the 360 faceplates. My issue with them is I had a arcade console. So it was white and hardly any faceplates looked good on it.

At least with the ps5 one. I imagine you will get 2 side plates so it essentially looks like a new console once you have put them on.

I completely agree, I was all about collecting the limited editions. If this done right, I might not have to worry about purchasing limited edition consoles this go round. How much would you be willing to pay for new shells?

Ahh... If you have to send in your console for repair they will not warranty it if the sticker has been tampered with. I know from experience, sadly.

May be a better idea, but only problem is getting those decals on a curved surface and having it look good will be pretty tough to line up. We will see what i end up doing in the end. End goal is to get rid of the hideous white color.

I'm not sure how well a decal is going to stick to the symbol filled surface. It's probably going to make contact with like 10% of the plastic.

Plasti-dip could work well. its like paint, but can be peeled off. its kinda like rubber coating. can get them in spray cans in many colours. and many brands have equavilent product.

Wondering if regular paint or lacquer will stick to plastidip for a wider assortement of coulours, shades and finnishes, that would be sick and let you put just about anything on as there is even types of paint that have unique textures other than simply gloss or matte. and provided you have a apropriately thick rubber coating it should peel off if you want to revert back to white.

A possible concern is the plasti-dip sticking too well, depends what the texture and structure of these panels are like I guess.

What would have looked really cool is like frosted transparent/translucent panels and lighting under it to give the panels like a soft dispersed hue, like a breathing, soft ice blue effect.

Never opened my ps4 or pro to clean. I just spray some air from the can and thats it. Maybe I should open it up to clean properly.
