This is gonna be interesting to watch. I actually think MS takes this battle.

A couple of inaccuracies in this article. They seem to think $5.99/month will be the price for Luna all the time, it won't. This is the price for early access only and will be changed after that so it will go up. From their site: "How long will early access pricing for Luna+ last?
$5.99/month introductory pricing is only available during Luna early access. Your Luna+ subscription will renew at the applicable monthly subscription price after the Luna early access period is over. We will notify you at least 30 days in advance of the end of early access to ensure you are informed of the new monthly subscription price, along with information on how to manage your subscription."

Also, they make out you need to pay for a Pro subscription to buy games on Stadia. That's not true. You can buy games and play them online etc without any extra costs and there are sales all the time on the store.

I'm surprised how interested I am in how these play out considering I have no interest in streaming games. But with Luna having these channels, publishers can carve out their own revenue stream making Luna even more of a platform than a Gamepass or Sadia or even PSNow since it's still a thing somehow.

DeadlyFire2080d ago

Sony has not really launched or built a structure around PSNow to launch it across mobile and the globe. Its more of just a Playstation streaming thing for now. Could easily be shifted to do so though at some point building up the structure to support it though would take a little while longer. Maybe another 5-10 years if they truely try to do it. Right now it sits on PC and PS4 around $60 a year. Or $5 a month. Probably the cheapest one, but they are not really pushing to shift it anywhere else yet.

Luna looks nice, but still costly. Different publisher channels is interesting as well. They will add to the cost though. So $6 a month with some games + whatever your favorite channels are which will add up a little.

Stadia aimed way off into the abyss and are lost. They will gain no ground unless they rebuild their whole focus. They do have a free tier launching sometime soon though. $10 a month and you have to buy every game.

Xcloud is aiming at $15 a month streaming. Includes a basket of games and no extra fees.

The weird thing about Luna, is that the console has an 8.1 Tflop GPU, which you don't need for streaming. This could also be a download service, which would obviously be better than Stadia, and would actually put it in more direct competition with Sony and Microsoft.

That's not really saying much though. It's like saying poop with sprinkles on top has a huge advantage over poop.

Agreed. I was going to say something similar.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing39d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9239d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit39d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing39d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9239d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
