"Now you might roll your eyes at me and accuse this as being the ramblings of an arrogant Nintendo fanboy..."

Someone is feeling left out.

Neonridr2062d ago

I'd argue there are 3. Nintendo, Sony and PC/Xbox. Honestly I see no purpose in this day and age for someone to own both a PC and an Xbox platform. You'd be better off grabbing one of the other two for a sense of variety with Nintendo probably offering you the greatest departure from the others.

RazzerRedux2062d ago (Edited 2062d ago )

I'd still break Xbox out on its own simply for the fact that there are distinct differences in gaming on console vs gaming on PC. PC gaming isn't typically very conducive to gaming in the living room where consoles usually live and PC gaming adds elements in hardware that many console gamers don't want to bother with. So while PC has Xbox games we are still talking about different types of gamers.

PS, Xbox, and PC have much more overlap in games. That much is true. But there are certainly enough differences that break them up and make them unique. The author is trying to equate all three as the same exact experience and that is simply false. The games that stand out on PlayStation and define what it is cannot be played on Xbox. The games that stand out on Xbox and define what is is cannot be played on PlayStation. And then there are a massive number of games on PC that are not available on console at all. Describing PlayStation, Xbox, and PC as a single platform is simply not true. And the fact that Nintendo doesn't overlap nearly as much and has many games not found on any of the others doesn't change that.

@Razzer - sure, I can agree that sometimes it's nice to lounge on the sofa and lay back and play your games. However, in this day and age it isn't impossible to out from your PC to your TV as well.

Playing a game like TLOU2 was nice to be able to just sit on my sofa and soak in the experience. A game like Destiny 2 or MP games i don't mind sitting at my computer desk. So that's a fair point and I can agree with it.

I just mean that if you own a PC you already get access to the Xbox library, so it would be money better spent picking up one of the other two boxes. But that's just my personal opinion there.

LordoftheCritics2061d ago (Edited 2061d ago )

There's only one platform and that's the screen I look at.

Everything else is the middleman.

Ju2061d ago (Edited 2061d ago )

Node 202. Fits perfectly in the home entertainment center. Only marginal bigger than the PS4 Pro and quieter.

The PC can be played on a couch hooked to a tv set with your gamepad of choice. Is now possible on pc to play splitscreen offline. Hate to say it but 99% of all third party games play best with a gamepad even remake DOOM😱. The experience on PC and Xbox/Playstation is the same. Nintendo offers a unique experience. That's a fact

RazzerRedux2061d ago (Edited 2061d ago )

Disagree. I and plenty of others still prefer keyboard and mouse over controller for first person shooters. Not even close to being as good, imo. And to say the experience on PC is the same as consoles is just not true. There are tons of really good games on Steam that never even find their way to consoles. If you are a strategy fan, for example, you are not going to find the breadth of games on consoles at all.

Father__Merrin2061d ago

well nintendo certainly isnt unless you are a child, granny, mommy and mini game gamer. btw when Bumpies Party 2 coming out?

Snookies122061d ago

Right... Because Nintendo is ONLY for old or young people. I own a Switch, and really enjoy it. Despite being a primarily PC/PS gamer. There are some great games on the Switch, and it's awesome to be able to take it with you when you're on the go. It's a lot more convenient than taking a console like the PS4 or X1 with you. Even if the multi-plat games don't look nearly as good. They still have their place on a mobile platform that differentiates them from their superior console versions.

I don't particularly 'like' Nintendo as a company or their decisions. However, there's no denying that the Switch is a great system. You're a fool if you think it doesn't have a solid place with hardcore gamers.

You can play switch games on the go. You can play Doom remake

Loadedklip2060d ago

I'm an adult ... I love Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Splatoon, Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart, Smash Bros. I love my PS4, my PC (with X-Box games) and my Switch. Maybe if you were an adult with money to spend, you too would be able to be free from being limited to one console.

You might be a Nintendo fanboy but I do agree with you. MS exclusives coming to PC while its hot, so why own a xbox? Sony exclusives slowly coming to PC (they even released a statement after HZD PC that they're interested in bringing more to PC) even though its not day 1 like MS, but its still coming to PC so why bother owning a PlayStation?

Before anyone throw dislike at me, Im a Sony fanboy oh and just a heads up I own a PS4 Xbone Switch and a PC.

marcodias2061d ago

going from "we are looking into puting more playstation games on pc" to every single game will be there eventually is kind of a stretch dont you think? They also said their focus in on consoles.
playstation has and will have games you can only play there unless stated otherwise.

--Onilink--2061d ago

Sure, but then again everyone is branching out, xbox with gamepass/pc/xcloud, nintendo with mobile and outside of gaming.

Its not necessarily difficult to imagine that Sony will eventually port many of their games to PC, maybe not day 1, but still, its clear its an untapped market.

And even with how successful the ps4 has been, its not exactly like it the console market has expanded massively for Sony, they have already reached 100+ million consoles sold before, the games themselves while certainly selling more than before still have a really low attach rate when you compare it with how many consoles are actually out there.

Its not like the ps5 is suddenly going to sell 300 million consoles this gen, there is a limit to how much revenue can be made just focusing on hardware sales (and software on just 1 platform)

So yeah, I honestly wouldnt be surprised at all if many more Sony games start seeing PC releases a year or two after they come out on PS5

R6ex2061d ago

I also only own a PS4 & PC but not XB1. See that so many console titles are starting to appear on PC, I'm gonna just skip next-gen and focus on building my Steam library on PC. So much easier to access my games all in one place, without worrying about backward compatibility with older consoles. My PC is always up to date.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio15d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing15d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit15d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing15d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
