So we can't plug this on the rtx 3000 series?

Bladesfist2076d ago

Nvidia are not including a VirtualLink USB-C port on the new 3000 cards, it looks like everyone is giving up on virtuallink

crazyCoconuts2076d ago

looks like you can still connect with the USB link cable. it's not quite as good as a native rift experience but nice to have.

If indeed this is $300 for the low tier as rumoured, it's a steal for a portable device that can also play every PC VR game like Half Life ALyx, Skyrim VR, Fallout 4, Walking Dead S&S etc, and the screen upgrade sounds promising, This could also mean that we'll see used Oculus Quest 1 for $200, which is even more ridiculous.

And this comes from a Facebook hater, I still love my Pimax above all else but Facebook is really making VR affordable for the masses.

bunt-custardly2076d ago

Used Quest for $200 is probably very far-fetched. I would expect more like $150 or less considering how many people will be upgrading.

Anybody have any input on how well the tracking works and game support? I'm a psvr gamer and I'm happy with the tracking and games on that but hate the wires and camera setup.

ApocalypseShadow2076d ago (Edited 2076d ago )

I don't own one but tracking is way better than PSVR. It's pretty much like PC tracking. The games are limited because of power but it has been increasing the amount of games it gets. Even has side load of games not officially approved. And, with a PC connected, you could play the Rift and Vive games.

I don't like Facebook. But I'd have to admit, they are really pushing VR forward a lot faster than others to stand alone, wireless VR. Google could have matched them if they had kept their daydream up and moved to stand alone away from phones. But you know Google, they always abandon things.

Tempting middle ground. You just have to deal with the devil that is Facebook. Once they add eye tracking, they'll then know everything you're looking at. And you can be monitored by an invisible moderator that can be standing in VR right next to you.

Outlawzz2076d ago

Well thanks for the apocalyptic aspect I hadn't thought of that yet, it plays well to your name lol
maybe I'll hold off for the ps5 vr and see wt they come up with if the quest 2 is looking too pricey.

ApocalypseShadow2076d ago

Lol. I'm just telling you exactly what Facebook said themselves
https://www.google.com/amp/...

*First, all the users in Horizon are involuntarily recording each other.*

*Users will not be notified when they’re being watched.*

*in Horizon there a many perfectly legal topics that you can’t discuss without fear of punitive action being taken against your account.*

That's not me. That's Facebook. Lol. If they are already capturing your information; you, your family, your friends, the places you go, things you buy, etc, what do you think they're going to do with VR eye tracking? What they'll say is that what you're looking at is anonymous. But that's how they will sell your information to advertise to you. And since they have changed their policy that REQUIRES you to login and put in your information to use quest,

https://www.google.com/amp/...
they'll know it's you and what you're looking at. I'm just being real.

Great product. You just have to trust "BIG BROTHER" like it's 1984.

Outlawzz2076d ago

Crazy stuff right there. I haven't used facebook since about 2012. Realized back then it was only going to get worse. I was disappointed when oculus was bought by them honestly.

ApocalypseShadow2076d ago (Edited 2076d ago )

I know. It's crazy. I don't want to bag on them, and they may be trying to protect users in VR. But just today, this is what was posted

https://www.roadtovr.com/fa...

They definitely want to know exactly who you are. No fake information or you may lose your content and account.

They need to know who you are and what you are doing so that they can gather that information and sell it. Or, use it against you by knowing what you like.

And, it almost looks like if you violate anything, you won't be able to use your headset for up to 30 days. Because you need to login.

Outlawzz2076d ago

Yea it's a shame they have to infect everything with this stuff. The advertisers are the real business here. Sell to the highest bidders. Mandatory facebook account makes it a no go.

Rhythmattic2076d ago (Edited 2076d ago )

A company that manufactures no PC hardware to run it on, No OS coded by them, but will you need a FB account to use it?
A browser based Social construct.,..... ?

njitram20002076d ago

Honestly, I'll just use a dummy Facebook account then. It's bullshit but that's Facebook.

You can get Hall effect controllers slightly cheaper, but you'd struggle to find as feature-rich a package without some heavy, heavy sales.

I fail to see how this is AI shhhhlllloooop. Looking at the different games they showed, this has made many of them look far better.

isarai_lee57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

It's AI slop because it ignores the artists intent and changes the details ESPECIALLY when it comes to character faces. The scariest part of it is introducing it as the next stage of DLSS, a feature where the current iteration already has controversy surrounding it and for quite a lot of games cannot be fully disabled. So reasonably the precident is already set for what path this could take, and it's not good

blacktiger57d ago

In case you didn't watch the video then let me point just one part. It overrides the lighting. Then the question of what is the point of ray tracing cost and so on. Many of the lighting deletes shadow, including shadow on the face like eyes even chin.

Chard57d ago

Why stop at art when it comes to human input - why not just have AI play the game for us, remove human input altogether

theshizer57d ago

If you don’t like it, just don’t enable it. Personally I think it looks great from the videos I have seen.

isarai_lee57d ago

And what about when you can't? Cause there's plenty of games where you cannot fully disable dlss already, i mean we're well into an era where it's a major crutch for developers to cover up their cut corners, why would this be any different?

blacktiger57d ago

You are playing with people's money and allow Nvidia to scam you.

In case you didn't watch the video then let me point just one part. It overrides the lighting. Then the question of what is the point of ray tracing cost. This is all lie to raise the cost of the graphic card.

Andrew33657d ago

Making characters look more realistic not ok because we want the developer to decide on how the game was intended to look. - Internet

Change entire game through mods thus changing how the developers intended the game to be is ok. - Internet

isarai_lee57d ago

Something consumers can do to a product after they have purchased it, entirely optional and can always be undone with a fresh install

VS

The leading gaming hardware manufacturer making this the next iteration of the main AA/Upscaling technique that is heavily relied upod by modern devs and is not optional in most games.

Not at all the same but nice try

jwillj2k457d ago

At the moment you need 2 5090’s just to get an image on the screen so this is all vaporware until proven otherwise.

Andrew33657d ago

The good news is you can just not use it as well.

Christopher57d ago

It's all about choice in the end. But, I would say that calling it 'more realistic' is quite a stretch. It looks like AI art, and that's rarely realistic.

Urrakia3457d ago

All the comments I see are reminding me of how we got to the current state of gaming when microtransactions were first introduced: "It's completely optional guys, we promise! If you don't like it just don't buy it!"

I think we all know how that ended up.

Popsicle57d ago (Edited 57d ago )

I had the same exact thought the first time this was brought up in a separate article about a week ago. Took me straight back to the conversations surrounding “horse armor.” Just don’t buy it they said. Years later, many IPs I previously enjoyed are so infected with monetization schemes that I don’t even consider purchasing them anymore.

DLSS 5 and the like are the same thing wrapped in a different package. History rhymes but many of us never learn from it.

blacktiger57d ago

Biggest Scam. Overrides lighting and shadow. So why keep Ray tracing? It's all a scam to raise graphic card. We now see Nvidia with Microsoft downturn anything against them. Sony is next!
