Much as it's not my thing personally, this is HUGE news for PSVR!

SullysCigar2081d ago

It is pretty remarkable, really, isn't it?

And it's an odd thought, knowing that Minecraft will increase PSVR sales, to some degree - especially with it being a free downloadable patch!

Abnor_Mal2081d ago

I also bought Discovery and never played it, but am willing to try Minecraft in PSVR. I'm not a Minecrafter and would rather watch other peoples creations but this could be a game changer.

I wonder if I can join a friends world while I'm using PSVR, and he is playing on a standard screen.

Outlawzz2081d ago

Well this has me interested. Never been into minecraft but with vr I might give it a shot. Im enjoying skyrim vr so far, I have no man's sky waiting to be fired up. Their all just so time consuming lol

SullysCigar2081d ago

If you think you might like creating in Minecraft, you should also consider Dreams in VR. There's already loads of games on there and it's only been on VR for a few weeks!

Outlawzz2081d ago

@SullysCigar Yea I have that as well. I haven't gotten to try it in vr tho as I just started with the tutorial and apparently it's not made for vr.

Ozzy24072081d ago (Edited 2081d ago )

Never played Minecraft but it looks like I'm going to try it now. I never liked Skyrim but in VR its awesome so hopefully the same for Minecraft.

MadLad2081d ago

Two questions, because I keep getting mixed information.

Will PSVR for PS4 games be supported on the PS5? Also, will it work for PS5 games as well? I know they're working on the next version.

Appreciated.

ILostMyMind2081d ago

Sony already said PS5 will run PSVR for PS4. What mixed information from Sony do you keep getting?

MadLad2081d ago (Edited 2081d ago )

I don't typically follow announcements and the like. I see articles here once and a while, and then just Google.

Wasn't saying Sony was giving me mixed information; just the random outlets I come across.
There's enough people out there giving me mixed signals I figured I'd ask.

Will first gen PSVR work with PS5 though? Or is that new tech for new tech?

SullysCigar2081d ago

^ All we know so far:

The original, current PSVR headset will work with all PS4 VR games on the PS5.

There's an expectation that the PS5 will enhance them considerably, either automatically (for example where framerates are unlocked) or via a patch.

PSVR2 is in development and there have been loads of patents regarding VR technology and their controllers revisions. As always, some wil make it in, some are blue sky thinking.

No real indication has been given on when to expect news or launch of PSVR2 as of yet, but Sony did make it clear they didn't want to overwhelm consumers going into a new generation. This means PSVR2 gets longer in the oven and will likely not see release before holiday 2021 or possibly 2022.

I'm okay with that, since the PS5 will already offer a step up from what we have in the short term!

Neonridr2081d ago (Edited 2081d ago )

@SullysCigar - I'm still skeptical about what sort of improvements you are going to get considering the headset is the lowest common denominator here. I just worry people are going to expect this huge boost in visuals which technically won't be possible. The PS4 Pro already did things like supersample down to the headset. I don't see the PS5 offering much more in terms of detail since the headset still is locked at its resolution. Framerates will see the biggest jump since games will run hiccup free more than likely. New games can definitely be built with the superior hardware in mind though.

SullysCigar2081d ago

@neonridr, yeah, I've seen talk of this nature before. What about the fact that Astrobot looks so sharp? Same resolution as Obduction (for example) yet that looks a blurry mess.

PSVR looks clearer on Pro, as you said, and PS5's processing power can bring raytracing, increased physics, particle effects, better sound, increased smoothness through better frame rate - just off the top of my head.

Games will ABSOLUTELY benefit from better hardware on PSVR before we see a new headset.

Watching a 3D Blu-ray on PSVR is a good indication. Or using it with your PC. Both make you wonder why all games don't look that sharp.

Processing power AND increased resolution for the big win, sure, but I'll take one while I wait for the other, happily.

ApocalypseShadow2081d ago

Basically what Sully said. So much more power than PS4 and PS4 Pro. But Neon is skeptical.

Frame rate increases that PSVR could support at 120fps all the time. More objects on-screen, bigger and better explosions, better textures, larger areas, faster movement, etc. Sure. The headset can only display at 1080P split. But the actual quality of the games can increase exponentially.

It's like Oculus Quest. It has limited graphics because the processor onboard is not that powerful. But plug Oculus Quest to a PC and the headset displays even more than what the headset is capable. You could play Half Life Alyx on it. Or the highest PC VR Skyrim mod if you have the rig. The resolution didn't increase on Quest. But the game quality jumped considerably. And the PS5 is capable of matching and out doing that. He just don't know Sully.

Anyway, good on Microsoft for allowing Minecraft VR on PSVR. But I wonder if it was more to do with increasing their Xbox login numbers?

PS4 VR games can be played using PS VR on ps5

PS5 VR games haven't been announced yet I think but I believe they probably will work with the current VR headset. There will probably be games that also have support for the Sony variant of the knuckle controllers that was tested out not long ago.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio21d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing21d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit21d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing21d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
