Is Apple Holding Back Game Streaming?

Game Streaming services are controversial among gamers, but, are Apple's store policies holding the fledging new services back? Microsoft is looking to launch its new streaming service, xCloud, on Android on Sept 15th as part of the Gamepass Ultimate service plan. Using the service, a number of games can be streamed directly onto your smart device of choice. The catch is that this service will not be on Apple iOS devices.

The Windows phone already failed, it isn’t Apple’s fault MS sucks at supporting its hardware. Apple also sucks so you should be on android already anyway.

"Is Apple Holding Back Game Streaming?"

No.

"Is Apple Holding Back Game Streaming for iOS customers?"

Yes.

A TRILLION dollar company can't produce their own hardware to push their own software. I'm so sad. /$

There are gamers blaming Apple for deciding how they control their own hardware and platform services. I'd bet, put in their shoes, every person bashing Apple would say no to these companies unless they were paid for allowing access. Which is what this is about. Companies like Microsoft or Epic want more money, but not pay the service fee or follow policy. I don't even like Apple. But I'm glad they said no. It teaches these other mega corporations that they just can't do whatever they want.

If these companies want to reach billions so badly, Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, etc should make streaming browser based. Then, they could reach billions and bypass any hardware, any app. Or create their own Chromecast like devices. It's not on Apple to make these corporations more rich.

This dead horse continues to be beaten into the dirt. To the point that it has become hamburger.

“ A TRILLION dollar company can't produce their own hardware to push their own software. I'm so sad. /$ ”

How is having a trillion dollar automatically mean you can spit anything out and it will instantly be gold?

“But I'm glad they said no. It teaches these other mega corporations that they just can't do whatever they want.”

What? What is MS trying to do exactly, conquering the entire world? Google have no problem with Stadia, xCloud, and even Geforce Now, so why exactly do Apple find problems with those service? Because of Apple Arcade? Last time I check, Google also have a subscription service in Google Play Pass.

“Or create their own Chromecast like devices. It's not on Apple to make these corporations more rich. ”

Did Apple tell Hulu, Netflix, and Spotify to go and make their own “devices” and leave the App Store as well? Are we still talking about mobile phone here?

You have no right to dictate what you want on someone else's product. Case closed.

What Google does on their platform is Google's decision. Has nothing to do with what Apple wants. Using another company's decision for their product to say that Apple is wrong for theirs is illogical.

Try again.

"But I'm glad they said no. It teaches these other mega corporations that they just can't do whatever they want."

That's their right as it is for any closed system. And it is my right to favor open systems like Android instead. If streaming becomes popular and Apple remains as stringent as they are then they will be taught a lesson as well by a significant portion of their userbase abandoning the platform. Apple is in a bad spot here and unless they reveal streaming service that puts all others to shame, I don't see this ending well.

Which is why I have Android. I'm more free to do what I want with my phone or tablet. Why I would never use Apple's products for myself.

But if Apple says no, it's Microsoft's problem. Not Apple's.

What's rather interesting is that Sony's Remote Play allows you to play anything on your PS4 on iOS. Including games downloaded from PS Now. We don't see Sony pushing for PS3 games to be streamed to iOS. Sony knows they can't dictate terms on a device they don't OWN.

But the other Mega Corporations want to stream all their games on someone else's product without paying a cent. Then cry that they can't. It's rather hilarious of them while being idiotic.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing16d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9216d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit16d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing16d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9216d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
