Its smart to wait a year anyway. Launch issues will be fixes..the price will be a bit down with a bit luck and the consoles will actually have a nice lineup of games already + you can see their weaknesses and strengths easier.

I don’t get it myself sure I’d like to know but the games day1 line ups more important to me doesn’t matter how much it costs if there’s nothing exceptional day1 I’ll potentially wait it out... for about a week 😅😅🥴

Apple announce the price of their phones a week before launch. Double what these consoles will cost sure contracts etc but they still sell million.
We know it’s November. We have a rough idea of games, mainly the 3rd party offerings. We can pretty much guess they won’t clear £499/$599.
We got another 3 months. I’m not saying leave it til the week before but yeah I’m not desperate to know a price myself I’ll budget if need be and make sure I got £600/700 ready for console new headset and a game or 3. Don’t need too many tho if got PS4 games I can use I can wait it out get the launch games on the cheaper month or 3 later. 1-2 top ones and I’ll be sold.

I'll say it one more time, Sony will literally wait until they know the price of the Series S, they will match it with ps5 digital and take a heavy loss but gain the profit back on games/accessories for £349 and spending the £150 they saved from not buying the disc version and spend it all on games and accessories with playstation practically breaking even before the gamer has even left the shop come launch night.
Sony will under no circumstances go 1st and will even put pre orders up globally without a price if they have too, they will make the Series S irrelevent if they match the price?

I don't think they are playing chicken with each other. The reason they are being quiet, I think, is due to the competition in hardware production and cost. Nvidia just announced their cards which makes it vary tempting and affordable. Look at the performance of the 3080 at $699??? As Cerny mentioned, there will be SSDs announced soon to out perform the PS5 SSD by the end of the year. We're going to see new SSD announcements and cost soon as well. They will announce their price once their partnership provide a break down of the cost based on the competition.
So, imo, the prices of next gen consoles will start at $399 if the competition in parts is very aggressive. If not, starting price will be $499-$599.

this really should be an embarrassment for both companies. I have been gaming since the NES and I've kept up with all console launches from the N64 on. I have never seen this before. Usually we'd know a couple E3's before the launch along with a price and demos of launch games. This has become a joke and if both consoles cost the same price then this was all for nothing.

Well, on my side I like the situation the way it is.
We will get the info close to launch, early adopters will get their product soon after announcements and will not need to stress for months in anticipation.

And it will cut short the endless fanboys discussions about who got the biggest one without any console in hand.

Look at what Nvidia just did: new products announced 3 weeks before launch, good specs, surprisingly good prices, everyone is happy.

I hope they don't say until the day it releases, just to piss off people who are so triggered.

Gamers should have been saving their pennies since Cerny made the announcement about PS5. I have my pennies saved up around $450 towards the PS5 (I will get the xobx later) but folks should be already preparing to spend like $500.

I don't see why the knowing the price matters to so many people. You'll either have the money or you won't. Say they announce $600, would anyone really wait to buy it? There are plenty of people willing to pay any price at launch. Those who wait for a price drop just allow somebody with the money to get in line.

Its really simple.

Scenario A: Microsoft announces the price of the Series X. Playstation announces the price of the PS5 with the disc drive. XBOX undercuts Sony with the Series S, which is actually even cheaper to make than a regular XBOX ONE S. Sony then offers the digital-only PS5 at a huge loss to undercut Microsoft. The consoles release and the digital only version sells out immediately because of severely limited supplies. Everyone who wants a Playstation bites the bullet and buys the more expensive version (or waits for a cheap one because its a console launch and there's no real rush).
Microsoft leans more heavily into Gamepass subscriptions as a measure for success and quickly drops Series S to an even lower price. No one who actually has Gamepass cares because their XBOX ONE S/X is just as good as a Series S and anyone who wants better graphics already plays on PC. Microsoft looses.

Scenario B: Sony announces its PS5 with the disc drive first. Microsoft undercuts them with Series X for a loss. Sony follows suit with the digital-only version. Microsoft announces Series S as a cheaper alternative. At launch day both consoles release and both the Series X and Digital only PS5 sell in limited quantities because both companies want to mitigate their losses by encouraging the vast majority of consumers to buy the profitable versions. XBOX quickly gains the reputation of having the less powerful console since Series S is just a current gen console masquerading as a next gen one. Microsoft looses.

Scenario C: Sony waits until Microsoft announces both versions even at the expense of moving back its release date because it is the clear market leader and it can use the pandemic as an excuse to mitigate PR damage. It then undercuts on price and wins because the cheapest console is almost guaranteed to win.

Scenario D: Sony releases all of its first party exclusives on PC in an attempt to compete with Microsoft in the new Digital space created by Gamepass. Microsoft's decision making on game design begins guiding the entire industry as Sony attempts to create games that are service oriented and easily monetized. We all loose.

I don't care about the price but especially Sony needs to show a lot of what PS5 can do. We want to know about its interface, about PSNow, about BC, about games etc

Sony knows why they won last gen and it had nothing to do with exclusives. It was price in addition to good games. MS will not let Sony undercut them this time. I am a little shocked that Sony has announced yet since they are the market leader. maybe they both know the machines are going to be high but don;t want to be the one to bring the bad news first. As funny as this sounds, Microsoft is in the driver's seat on this one.

It’s really ridiculous... holding out this long and not announcing a price and pre order date is foolish imo. At the end of the day this video game hobby we have is just a hobby non the less. And for most gamers out there this hobby that us players are supremely into has to have prices for the hobbyists to put aside money for just like every other hobby. We have to have prices and release dates to know how much of our budget we need to set aside for our hobby. I know there are those that can just pre order or go buy these consoles whenever and wherever but this crowd is few and far between. At the end of the day we need to know these things much sooner for these companies to gain more sales. But i guess during these times the companies are expecting less sales? Hence Sony stating that even with them manufacturing more consoles than they previously were going to make that they are still itterating that Ps5 will be limited in quantity at launch.

After the smackdown MS got with the XBO reveal where Sony just slam dunked on them when the price was announced, I can see why they're a bit gun shy now. I expect they'd be willing to stretch this out until just about 1 month prior to release if they had do, and then that'll set some horrible precedent for the next wave of console releases.

Microsoft is waiting for sony to announce so they can undercut and by taking a loss get the userbase higher than playstation with marketing a "more powerfull" console at the same or cheaper price. Sony is offsetting by pointing to haptics, ssd/io speed and haptics. Anything can happen... that is the waiting game both are playing. Ps3 struggled with a high price so I see a sweetspot of $499 , if they can achieve this ... or less then it will sell like hotcakes

Live your life dude, cause once prices are announced, whatever it may be, the shock/excitement will rise and fall immediately. If these consoles are not already coming off the line, put onto pallets, and being shipped across the world it ain't happening November. These are multi-billion dollar companies. They know their manufacturing cost. They know their ROI. Budgets have been set and planned months if not years in advance. There is no pricing. there is no release date. Manufacturing, or logistical reasons may be a factor (due to covid) as to why. But this notion that they are play chicken with each other is just stupid.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Wuchang is great. Nine Sols didn’t have a physical copy so I never played it but I’ve heard good things so I will check it out. I stopped playing sports games many years ago when before the card dlc’s or whatever they’re called.
