Killzone 2 Beta weapons montage

With the Killzone 2 Beta coming to a close this Sunday, we've got one more video up our sleeves to show you, this time taking a look at the many weapons available in the game.

Keep in mind, Guerrilla Games has yet to reveal all the weapons that will be available in the final game, so expect a few more surprises over the next few months.

The video below features guns from the beta, showcasing such weapons as the ISA M4 Revolver, ISA M82-G Assault Rifle, and ISA M13 Semi-automatic Combat Shotgun. Also included in the footage are some scene of environmental destructibility, displaying crumbling concrete columns and more.

Fishy Fingers6301d ago

I really like the "meaty" feel they've given to the guns. Hopefully, after December 4th (full game impressions NDA over) they'll show a little more on the weapons we know are included but yet to be shown, such as the Helghast "weather" weapons and also the ISA flamethrower.

jmcorp6301d ago

Kilzone 2 is shaping up to be the re-shaper of this FPS shooter genre. With Weapon animations and punch like that... COD has just been topped. The new king is Killzone 2. Thank God my PS3 is arriving in time to get to play this GEM.

happy turkey day

Kush_Reaper6301d ago

Game is truely gonna be EPIC. febuary can't come soon enough.

OBAMA!!!

ROFL COPTER6301d ago

What does Obama have to do with KZ2....

On-topic though. Have they gimped the multiplayer? I read that there is no cover system online? why would they do this if it's true

thor6301d ago

Much like MGO, people who played the game during early testing phases would not use the cover mechanic because it restricted their movement. Rather, they would opt to just stand/crouch behind cover and peek out - so that if someone attacked them from the side they could get away faster because they weren't pinned to the wall. So they took out the cover mechanic because it was redundant. It obviously works better in single player though.

heyheyhey6301d ago

@ROFL

think about it...... think really deep about what you just said

all the most played shooters online are fast-paced, frenetic and erratic- that is what makes them exciting (COD4, Resistance, Halo)

a cover system would gimp the online mode and make it into a duck-fest like Rainbow Six or Gears, the only cover system needed is the one you create yourself by crouching

thor explains pretty well

ROFL COPTER6301d ago

heyheyhey

you sell a game that has a cover system in single player and none in multi. that makes NO sense. you are just a troll trying to spin it for the better.

the developers have had YEARS to get this right. granted i'm still going to buy it but you have to admit that no cover in multi player is just stupid.

heyheyhey6301d ago (Edited 6301d ago )

does COD4 have a cover system? no

is it the most successful online console game ever? yes

point adduced.. certain things just don't work in multi-player, but can be implemented to heighten the immersion and experience in single player

a cover system is one of them... add it in multiplayer and it slows the game down, and would never get used by the pro's anyway- as the feature would be redundant compared to the crouch n' hide mechanic

so once again.... think dude, think- it would be like using a square for a wheel- needless, lethargic

EDIT:

wtf? you accuse me of poor comprehension yet your the one missing the point and being really fvcking stupid? nice

did you not read what i said? certain elements work in single player than DON'T WORK IN MULTIPLAYER!!!!!!!!!!! perhaps the cover system mechanic works for you when your playing online... but is Gears of War the most played online game? is Ranbow Six? A BIG FVCKING NO!!!!!

it doesn't make it more tactical.... crouching is the only tactical maneuver you need

it's perfectly acceptable for a developer to implement a feature in single player that doesn't appear in multi if it's for the purpose of balancing gameplay in both.. tons of devs have done it...

lack of reading comprehension.. jeez, what a fvcking tool... you think owning all 3 consoles makes you smarter and more insightful? i love how people throw the claim around thinking it entitles them to more respect and an immunity to being a fvcking moron or something... it doesn't

i own 2 consoles because those are the only one's i need ATM... i can play all 360 game's on PC with increased quality... and believe me, my reading comprehension is fine thank you

ROFL COPTER6301d ago

Does COD have a cover system in single player? NO...

You really need to think first before you start "advising" people. A shooter with a cover system involves a lot more strategy. That's why I like gears of war so much. (I own all 3 consoles before you insult me on that)

COD 4 is also so successful because its just a normal FPS. All I am trying to say is that it should have a cover system for both or no cover system FOR BOTH. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO HAVE ONE IN SINGLE PLAYER AND NOT ONLINE.

Read the last sentence a couple times so you know how to reply. Someone obviously skipped comprehensive reading in school. (or just skipped school all together)

bunbun7776301d ago (Edited 6301d ago )

Oh mommy make it stop....

heyheyhey is not a troll, I always appreciate his comments, and imo, you sound like you are desperately sticking to a point that is a non-issue. Telling me in caps that having a cover feature in single player and not having it in multiplayer, how that makes "NO SENSE"-- well it makes sense to me. Could you please give me an example of any other games that implemented this and fuh-fuh-failed? Could it be you don't know what you are talking about, and even though it makes no sense to you (non KZ2 developer) can't you seem to grasp that it made sense to the people that engineered and played the game? It's about playability, and the fact that you are not ace in MP (neither am I) goes to show that if you got what you think you wanted, you'd come to find out it wasn't that great. Enjoy being stuck to a wall, I'll take the crouch and run mechanic myself.

-edit I reread this and worried that I may be sounding too harsh, but then I saw this in your post above me:

"COD 4 is also so successful because its just a normal FPS."

thor6301d ago

I say again, they DID include the cover system in multiplayer. They tried it - the same exact cover system that DOES work in single player. But guess what - people didn't use it. Because the people who took cover using the system were left at a disadvantage. You get the same exact effect as taking cover by simply crouching behind an object and peeking out - except you have greater freedom of movement. So they took it out.

I can see your argument that if a cover system is in single player then it should be in multiplayer as well. But KZ2's online is not like Gears 2's online - it's designed to be faster paced, with many more players (over 3 times as many players). Given the option to take cover by pressing a button, or to take cover by crouching behind an object, people would choose the latter so they could be more free to move. The only advantage cover could give would be blindfiring, and that's really not much of an advantage. So they took out the cover system ON PURPOSE to IMPROVE the game.

cant wait for this game i wish i had the beta this owns every xbox game out there

lokiroo4206301d ago

Settle down and keep it in your pants, it will be here before you know it.

Doppy6301d ago (Edited 6301d ago )

Killzone 2 is going to be amazing hands down. The only thing minor grip I have with it is that the gameplay is a little too SIM-like (too realistic as far as a space war can be). When he jump over the balcony and nearly died means that there's no way to retreat besides out running your pursuer rather than being agile enough to get away heal and come back and kill them like in Resistance.

But who cares it's still going to be awesome.

thor6301d ago

This is actually a nice selection of weapons. I love the sound and "feel" of the weapons (of course they look awesome too).

Every beta vid I have seen up until now has the standard assault rifle pretty much all the time - why is this? I assumed for a while that there weren't actually that many weapons in the beta...

ud6301d ago

the most balanced gun overall. Good short-mid-long range.

Fishy Fingers6301d ago (Edited 6301d ago )

Probably because the majority of people only use the Soldier class, it's a good all rounder, plus you have to unlock stuff, lot of them are probably still early on XP or just nubs.

All the good players are probably to busy playing to record and upload footage. I would be ;)

Anyway, most FPS games have a specific gun that the majority seem to favour, Halos battle rifle, CS:S Ak/M4 or Deagle, that's Killzones.

ud6301d ago

But even after having unlocked most of the weapons, I still often came back to that rifle. The zoom on this weapon makes it easy to aim from far away and if the enemies are close range you can still unzoom and spray them in the face with little recoil compared to other guns imo.

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX491d ago (Edited 491d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne491d ago (Edited 491d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro491d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken491d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown491d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72491d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken490d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya490d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast491d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood491d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro720d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72720d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_720d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga720d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos720d ago (Edited 720d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23720d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000720d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin720d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole720d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix720d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989720d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor720d ago (Edited 720d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

720d ago
Michiel1989720d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor1024d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar1024d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1024d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491023d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381024d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1024d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1024d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381024d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1024d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761024d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware7301024d ago (Edited 1024d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1023d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1024d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1024d ago (Edited 1024d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1024d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1024d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
