Squadron 42 & Roadmap Update

Zyloh writes: "Hi everyone,

When we realized that our old Roadmap didn’t represent our development progress very well, we started exploring options for how to build something more informational that fit how we develop games. Our original message about this was in one of March’s Roadmap Roundups, and we followed up with hints about this in our Squadron 42-focused Calling All Devs on March 13.

We mentioned then that we are happy with Squadron 42 development and committed to a few things I’d like to bring up again. We talked about injecting more Squadron 42 content into our regularly scheduled releases, which is why you may have noticed things like the Squadron 42 themed episode of Calling All Devs, or the Inside Star Citizen updates on Vanduul ships, gas tech, a deeper look at the Aciedo Comm Array, and other related content. This was all alongside our monthly Squadron 42 Reports (March, April, May, June). One of the important elements to messaging Squadron 42 updates has also been to raise awareness that work completed for Star Citizen is also work done for Squadron 42. The only content that’s exclusively SQ42 are people, places and plot – and we don’t want to spoil those."

Wait people actually thought this game would have a release... haha too funny...

Anyways would you like to browse our online showroom where we can sell you ships for thousands of dollars?

RaidenBlack2110d ago

Star Citizen is the MMO Space Trading Combat Simulator.
Squadron 42 is the story-based single-player game set in the Star Citizen universe.

Hakuoro2110d ago (Edited 2110d ago )

Ok, well I'm sure that justifies everything that's gone on with the game...

LordoftheCritics2110d ago (Edited 2110d ago )

So you're saying they can scam twice?

From the article what I got is that the roadmap itself has a release date. This is some next level stuff.

Eonjay2109d ago

The funny thing is that they burned through the massive quarter billion plus money they got from gamers and they never actually released a finished product.

@LordoftheCritics

What a freaking dumpster fire 🔥

thorstein2109d ago

@LordoftheCritics

That roadmap will release IF Cloud imperium reach a stretch goal on their Kickstarter.

"What a freaking dumpster fire "

There is hardly a better example.

Squadron 42. When perfect is the enemy of good enough...and even a foe of great.

This sounds like they plan on doing this forever under the guise of "Our supporters want something like they have never seen" and there are some there at RSI and CI that may actually believe this. Yet with each passing month new tech arrives that begins to bury everything they have done. They will eventually reach a point, and they may very well be there, where in quite short order a different company can stomp on everything they have offered for a sliver of the time and cost. Then what will you have? A $300 Million plus pile of code that is being outclassed, outgunned, and outmaneuvered at every turn.

Cutting edge is a very time dependent descriptor and it has a finite shelf life.

it's widely publicized that cloud imperium has mismanagement issues, there are a lot of interviews with people related to the projects. How people still have hopes for this game is beyond me.

just a quick google search shows the $200mil++ fund is nearly burned through, while they still have a long long way to go until they finished the promised features (if ever)

sprinterboy2110d ago (Edited 2110d ago )

It'll get cancelled one day, but because of all the work they've done it will be classed as legal what they've done and they'll all walk away from the last 10 years with bucket loads of cash they paid themselves with there yearly salaries?
Its actually a really dumb thing to do but others would say its clever, I wish I had of thought of that?
Seriously how many of the kickstarter/crowd funding projects have you actually seen get released? Like 1% and they've been shite.

Hollow Knight
Banner saga
Divinity Original sin
Shovel Knight
Darkest Dungeon
Wasteland 2
Superhot

Pillars of eternity
Shenmue 3
Night in the woods
Mighty No.9

Theres no shortage of crowd funded games out there

abstractel2109d ago

Curious what salary Chris Robert gave himself.

I_am_Batman2110d ago

With next-gen around the corner and new engines like UE5 making asset streaming much easier, I wouldn't be surprised if we'll see a similarly ambitious game realized before Star Citizen ever gets finished.

This is how all scams will unravel, slowly, and surely, and suddenly there's just no communication. I bet there's a full panic mode and people will start leaving soon. But it all depends on how much money flows in, and how it is distributed, and how it is all put in the books. I bet if authorities walked in the office right now and took a look at the latest build, they'd realize this is never going to be ready, and is very, very far from it.

Man this is sad that not even the roadmap can be shown to the public. Especially those that paid hundred PLUS dollars in digital items plus the game. I hope that those that backed this in good faith eventually get whats theirs and laugh at the others. As a person that sat back and waited but with high interest at this dream, I am happy I didn't pull the trigger and I say this as a person that is heavily interested in this vision. I will opt for the basic package whenever this releases.

look fantastic! I hope they don't delay it to 2 more years"

Genuinely think this is the biggest scam in the history of gaming. We will eventually see a Coffeezilla excoriation and then a Netflix documentary on it. I want a "Poop Cruise" for this game basically!
