Nintendo don't have much to offer me and PS5 only had R&C and Horizon 2 everything else was meh. XSX has the stronger starting lineup. But then again it was like that this gen. XO first 2 years was stronger than PS4 then 2016 and beyond PS turned up the heat.

Great article with valid points. If you’re on a platform then you know what it’s about. That’s their bread and butter, like big triple a 3rd person action games for Sony, or multiplayer game anywhere with Xbox.

They stopped competing with each other a while ago and next gen makes it pretty clear.

The hubris and toxicity of console wars has always been foolish. None of us are making a dime off these companies, save stockholders, so just celebrate gaming in general and appreciate what they’re trying to do.

I haven’t touched Nintendo since I was a kid, yet they still exist today. My gaming tastes have changed but I still appreciate what Nintendo brings to the table. 👍🏽

PS5 had the better showcase of games and actually have exclusives. The games that Sony presented looked fantastic and Next-Gen. Sony showed a bunch of great looking games and Microsoft showed off hardly any that really stuck out.

There never was a war this gen, the only two notable "console wars" were SNES vs Genesis and PS3 vs 360. Sony flat out dominated every other gen there was a Playstation available. With that I'm sure PS5 will outsell XSX too. It's going to be hard to find a reason to buy the XSX for at least the first couple years considering you can play most of its games on Xbox One and all of them on PC.

Nintendo can't get out of a child & Mommy & granny gaming so since the wii they have punched themselfs out of the war nobody takes them seriously and if you want to play the latest cutting edge titles Nintendo will not cover you.

Xbox has sold it self out with an entire generation of being let down. Now they want their games on pc and want gamepass subs more than game sales.

PC Well put it this way I've installed assassins creed black flag 2 days ago and it constantly crashes when you follow stede in the beginning chapter I've had it upto here with constant fixes unparking cores messing with setting reboots etc although I'm a 2k badge holder on steam plus 100's of titles on all the other launchers I'm giving it the boot when ps5 launches.

Sony is the only one who truly gets it and has won the war hand down..

My platform for next-gen will be solely the PS5 because I really have no interest in Nintendo exclusives & after seeing MS/XBSX presentation as of now I have no interest in their console as well. From Sony's last month's
presentation,they're giving more of what they gave this generation their quality of games look AAA top notch. I can't wait to see what PS has in store for their next showcase.

Somebody will make that Halo gameplay in Dreams alone, and it will have better visuals.

The only game I really liked the look of from MS was Everwild but otherwise I felt really deflated by the Xbox show. The problem for me isn't necessarily the quality of the show, it's the pattern of behaviour on desplay yet again from MS and its executives.

How many times will people continue to forgive them for hyping something to high heaven before completely failing to deliver, it's inexcusable at this point, Spencer is nothing but a snakeoil salesman. I don't even agree with Gamepass, people can crow about it all they want, but it is a negative force in the industry and simply exploits everyone else's hard work for them to take a slice of the pie.

Bit like saying the left and right are happy with their lot and will never argue again.

It was over this generation. Sony will outsell the XSX just like they did the XB1, and come with exclusives that will be hailed as classics. Nothing new.

I'm starting to regret cross-gen first party exclusives. Halo Harambe looks fun but those graphics are bad.

Clearly the console wars aren’t over. There’s always going to be someone in the lead, but that doesn’t mean they’ve already won. Xbox has been trailing for awhile and although their game pass system is amazing, they don’t have the first party support that Nintendo and Sony have. It could change but I doubt it.

Personally I found a lot to like.

Grounded (the beta was great fun)
Halo (apart from the popin on a demo(!) I found it pretty cool....the last brute looked unfinished though)

Fable (granted nothing shown but I'm curious for it's return)

Really the main hate on the show seems to be from PS fans. Which around N4G was a given before it was even shown.

So whilst far from a perfect showing there was stuff for me there for sure.

MS didn't win, they are going full sub-based gaming. It's actually a bit cheap and sleazy. But, yeah, after Xbox's last outing, the war is over. The pasture is littered with carrion and the birds are circling.

It's never been really a war. It's been competition to see which company gets the most market Sharee and the best games.

In that front it will never be over and PlayStation consistently delivers.

What a stupid nonsense thing to say, There is not, and never was, a console war. I have never heard Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony, bash their competition directly. This isn't politics and I never want to see a Trump VS Biden scenario between game companies. Game businesses respect each other and what they do, just like professional musicians.

The console wars will always be there as long as there are fans of one console that want to justify their choice by talking crap about the other. The console wars rages on.

I find it near impossible to be excited for any MS system anymore.

At this point I'd really just buy an Xbox system if they had an exclusive Rumble Roses game....for research purposes of course. But at least it would be something other consoles don't have. Shoot, at the quality WWE 2K games have been, might as well go THAT route anyways.

I am still really stoked for the Series X and cant wait for Halo Infinite. It looks like exactly what i wanted and with forge and multiplayer, 4 player campaign, and some just classic halo gameplay, big bonerz. I really hope they deliver.

What sense does this make? If what your saying Phil Spencer is saying, then why doesn't Phil Spencer actually play nice like he's preaching and just releasing games on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Last I checked, Phantasy Star Online 2 is a timed exclusive on Xbox One that'll eventually see the light of day on PS4 and PS5, so don't tell me Phil Spencer wants to play nice. He wants console exclusives because that's how they sell hardware, but he's also wearing a mask and playing the good guy and will say they want third-party titles because, how do I say this, they don't want Sony to do any further damage, they need to keep up. When the PS3 caused fear in gamers, that single-handedly changed the industry, it really did, Sony has that big of an impact on the industry. Sony, at one time, had the best relationship with developers anybody could ever want. They, unfortunately, annihalated SEGA and had taken Nintendos best partnerships Nintendo has never been able to fully recover. When the PS3 launched and people didn't get it, meaning they didn't understand the value and concept, Microsofts life was made so easy that day. Squareenix became afraid, amazingly enough Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remained, and still to this day, is the only Metal Gear Solid to be a PlayStation exclusive, but Square took a look around and betrayed Sony that day, Final Fantasy XIII was heading to Xbox 360. It didn't matter from that day on what Sony did to build the names of developers, that trust and relationship was betrayed and Microsoft were getting handouts. PS4 is selling extremely well, there's really no need for any developer to have to release on Microsofts platform with which sales are suffering, but Final Fantasy now releases day and date on both consoles, with the exception. Of 7 remake which is timed exclusive. But we see with other games. Crash was Sony's mascot and is now on Xbox and Nintendo Switch, you don't see Master Chief or Mario on other consoles.

It really doesn't matter how hard Sony's worked to build relationships with developers, Microsoft got free handouts when Sony tripped up once, but look at the power the PS2 had, as in influence on the industry, compared to where we are today, and Microsoft had to do nothing but show up.

The" console war" will always live in the mind of ppl who need to be reassured that they made a good purchase and that it was in fact the best possible choice available.

For me, I consider a console like a pair of shoes because they are basically footwear but are used for a different purpose.

My Ps4 is mainly used for PSVR and Sony 1st party studio
My PC is my primary console (It is set up as a Steambox) and this is where I play most of my games due to pricing.
My Xbox is basically used for game pass (and no! unless SX is insanely cheap I won't buy a Sx ).
My Nintendo console is for use with my son (he's the king of falling in the waterfall at Mario Kart).

As you can see all my console are used because they have a different purpose and don't compete with each other.

I agree that consoles are fighting different battles but they will ultimately still be compared to each other and due to content, Playstation will "win"

Competition is always good, but xbox has gave up on console gaming when they started releasing 1st party games on pc and game pass, made owning an xbox worthless. I hope nintendo can continue to do well because i dont want PlayStation dominating console gaming.

I would of loved for Xbox to have shown us something great but for the next generation consoles if you have a ps5 and a Nintendo switch your set!

I have both systems but u have to have great first party games and MS just doesn’t. The system is great the people making decisions suck!

Sony once again with the lesser powerful console had the confidence to show actual gameplay footage. I’m talking minutes of actual gameplay. That’s pretty sad from Microsoft to be honest.

PS5 won! War over! I watched the movie Midway recently and it's clear to me that unlike the movie, Japan is winning the war. Switch and PS4 both sold like hot cakes and both console had a great lineup of games. PS5 will be the technological marvel that we all expect while Series X will be another way to play your Gamepass games.

I’ve tried to stay positive about Xbox, but after seeing the Halo Infinite gameplay my god did it look bad. 5 years folks and you’d think they’d reveal something with explosions, huge set pieces, just some Michael Bay ish with Master a Chief decimating entire areas.

Instead what we got was a poor mans DOOM. A much boring less beautiful looking version with a grappling hook. I mean it looked like it was running on an OG Xbox with pop in and bland textures.

That is not how you reveal Halo. They had one job ladies and gentleman one and they still managed to blow it.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Is this like the 10th quarter in a row they're down 33% on hardware how is that even mathematically possible. You would think their mediocrity would Plateau
