Just keeps getting better! I hope Infamous has the same too.

Resistance 2 and KZ2, Insomniac and Guerrilla Games: Setting the bar for sub-par third party developers.

Edit: And Naughty Dog, thanks to CrippleH below.

CrippleH6381d ago

You forgot NaughtyDog the developers of Uncharted.

Cajun Chicken6381d ago

Naughty Dog are KINGS of seamless games.

See the lack of loading screens and seamless gameplay in:
Crash 2
Crash 3
Jak
Jak2
Jak3
Uncharted

LeonSKennedy4Life6381d ago

Insomniac is 2nd party and Guerrilla is owned by Sony now...so they are 1st party.

Lifendz6381d ago

showing the rest of the world how to use PS3 right. Good stuff Sony. Keep justifying my purchase.

Bathyj6381d ago

Gorrilla Games?

Who are they?

sunnygrg6381d ago (Edited 6381d ago )

^^Guerrilla Games. They are the creators of a game that will blow that smirk off your face in February 2009.

Bathyj6381d ago (Edited 6381d ago )

Ummmm, did you READ my post, or the article blurb? Or ever seen me here before for that matter.

I think you've misunderstood me.

ultimolu6381d ago

Scooooore!

This makes me even more hyped for the game.

Killjoy30006381d ago

I wish there was. Since there are no load times throughout entire levels, we might get some sort of Semi-GTA start-up load screen. But, I have faith in Guerrilla, seeing as how they're technical geniuses.

mikeslemonade6381d ago

Nooooo I want an install. It's a fact that things streaming off a Harddrive is faster than anything on disc being red by a lazer. Just think how much faster things would run with an install. If the map takes 5 seconds to load you best believe it probably only take 3 seconds to load on a harddrive. Installs are a good thing not a bad thing.

iamtehpwn6381d ago

Metal Gear Solid 4.
Soul Calibur 4.
Bioshock.
Devil May Cry 4.
Unreal Tournament 3.
Far Cry 2.

You just got F***ING PWNED.

Kleptic6381d ago (Edited 6381d ago )

the game uses procedural rendering for some textures...and while all others are confirmed to be completely uncompressed...

because of hat, an HDD install seemed unlikely...as procedural textures take up next to zero space, as the rendering process for them is math heavy, as apposed to the normal just streaming and uncompressing...

also...the uncompressed textures will take up TONS of space...which would make them very unlikely to be installed to the HDD...

HDD installs aren't a bad thing...but the use of BD as a major asset (as it never is for a multiplat game, as the 360 doesn't have it), allows some other options that simply weren't there before...streaming in high res textures in uncompressed form is actually easier than utilizing precious ram and processing power needed to uncompress them in real time...which iD confirmed is the major advantage of blu ray right now...so just because there is no HDD install, allowing the streaming to be faster, more power will be focused directly on loading/running the level, rather than unpacking all the textures...this uncompressed data streaming is probably a MAJOR reason that killzone 2 has some things, like lighting and physics, that are significantly ahead of other console games...as they have used BD in a way that frees up processing and memory that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to use on visual effects...

they just have to build the load system around that...which they have done in a way similar to Uncharted (which also had no install)...so I expect everything to be fine...

trikster406381d ago

MGS 4 - installs at every chapter
DMC4 - install (optional)

Those were first gen games though( well for the devs they were) so they are excused :)

Time_Is_On_My_Side6381d ago (Edited 6381d ago )

This kind of programming should quiet the talkers about installs, complaining that it's mandatory. Plus being a first party developer this is not only setting the bar for games in general but all PlayStation 3 developers complaining about the technology.

phosphor1126381d ago

minus MGS4, thats simply because kojima even said there were space issues.

BLuKhaos6381d ago

This game is looking to be too good to be true.Something is going to go wrong,I can just feel it.either way KZ2 FTMFW!!!!!

Hope it's seemless like UNCHARTED!!!

Show them 3rd party how it's really done.

Let Kojima in you're programming inner circle tech sharing Sony he deserves it.

CrippleH6381d ago

Kind of like How Uncharted did.

Nice!

Elimin86381d ago

But I gave you a bubble for your statement.

Oh didn't noticed that. Wasn't thinking properly.

Johnny Rotten6381d ago (Edited 6381d ago )

oh it's just Kotaku re-writing thier "5 reason's why Killzone is not a true next gen experience" article.

CrippleH6381d ago

Kotaku's reasons.

1) It actually takes skills to be good in the game.
2) Seemless experience, loading = next gen.
3) It's to gray.
4) The battlefield in war is colorful with rainbows.
5) Not on 360.

That's my take on their reasons.

callahan096381d ago

Kotaku's Killzone 2: Five Good Things article:

5.Combat Itself: Killzone 2 multiplayer manages to maintain the fluid speed of the single player experience without sacrificing the looks that get the game featured in so many “look how pretty this game is” magazine spreads. Combat takes place at the perfect speed for me - not Unreal quick, but not Lost Planet slow. Just right.

4. Spawning Mechanics: Dying in Killzone 2 multiplayer brings up a map of possible spawn points, as well as a camera displaying what is going on at each locations, allowing you to pick the location that best fits your play style. When playing with a squad, players can choose to respawn on their squad leader to get right back into the action. Very handy when your squad leader finds himself all alone guarding an objective with tons of enemy inbound.

3. The Badge System: The Badge system represents the different classes you can play in multiplayer, from scout to engineer to medic. Each of the six badges have their own skill sets. Where Killzone 2 makes things interesting is that you can combine the power of two badges to create your own class based on your own particular play style. Want an engineer with healing skills? A stealthy soldier with a bazooka? Knock yourself out!

2. Dynamic Missions: Instead of playing one mission type and then waiting for the new map to load before beginning another, Killzone 2 features dynamic missions, which allows you and your friends to play through multiple game types on one map without loading.

1. Fully Destructible Toilets: Yes, I checked.

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX569d ago (Edited 569d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne569d ago (Edited 569d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro569d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken569d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown569d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72569d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken569d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya569d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast569d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood569d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro798d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72798d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_798d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga798d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23798d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000798d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin798d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole798d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix798d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989798d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor798d ago (Edited 798d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

798d ago
Michiel1989798d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor1103d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar1103d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1102d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491102d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381102d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1102d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1102d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381102d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1102d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761102d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM1102d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware7301102d ago (Edited 1102d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1102d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1102d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1102d ago (Edited 1102d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1102d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1102d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
