Slot loading Xbox 360

Eliot Phillips writes:

"File this one under: "Wow, that's even possible?" xbox-scene hacker [RDC] has been hard at work converting his Xbox 360 to slot loading. To start, He removed the slot loading drive from a blueberry iMac G3. The loading mechanism is the top half of the drive. He split this off and married it to the reading mechanism in the Xbox's Hitachi drive. The difficult part came with getting the drive to properly signal when it had a disc. He put together a custom circuit to do the detection and has a thorough description of how he solved the problem."

PS3 FTW6413d ago (Edited 6413d ago )

It funny how someone had to "MOD" their 360 just so it doesn't have a hardware style from the early 90's.

And M$ says their on "the cutting edge of technology"

The only thin their cutting is their fans when they rip them off for over-priced accessories and broken console ;)

Just another thing my PS3 does Stock..

meepmoopmeep6413d ago

360 is like buying fries in need of catchup, i mean, ketchup

:)

I'm perfectly content with the tray-loading mechanism of the 360, but I guess hackers do it just because they can.

TheDude2dot06413d ago

You'll be content until your tray gets stuck. It's going to happen eventually and it will suck. It happened to me recently.

Even the Wii has slot-loading.

Awesome mod though.

BlackRaven856413d ago (Edited 6413d ago )

If they ever do slim down the 360. This would be a perfect, and low costing way to load disc. It'll happen for real soon enough due to all those wear and tear drivers it has now. It's only a question of when. Still good idea. I like it in my PS3.

plain rice6413d ago

Disc tray loading is actually cheaper FYI.

Aclay6413d ago

If Microsoft didn't rush the 360 to the market and it came out around the same time as the PS3 and Wii, I think that the 360 probably would have had a Slot loading drive.

I love the slot loading drives much better than the disc loading drives though.

firetaw6413d ago

have you ever seen microsoft make a slim version of there console yet? they didnt do it with the original xbox so why start now? there plans are to totaly abandon the 360 when they release there next gen supposedly called the 720. you can bet on that.

BlackRaven856413d ago

The reason they didn't do that with XBOX was due to it being too late in game, and they wanted to start with 360. And got some secret proof they would abandon the 360? I want actually written proof from Microsoft Board of Directors, they said that. Did I say they would make one? I said, if they ever do, read my words again before you say something.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
