When I buy a PS5 it will be the digital version. If they do a digital Series X then I'll buy that at launch also.

Thunder_G0d_Bane2165d ago

Digital on console is far too expensive. The fact games at release cost more digital then retail is stupid and why I will never go digital console until that changes.

On PC my main platform I get my games from cdkeys at release and they cost far less than retail console versions of the same games.

So I will get the disc version of ps5 but not at launch as there's no games worthy of day 1 purchase. Playing last of us 2 right now an got ghosts next month.

Being way over priced used to be the case for digital... But now it seems they always have a lot of steep price cuts for flash sales and holiday sales. Digital prices are starting to come down to more reasonable prices on more of a regular basis. But, you do lose the ability to have any trade in value for the future. I think anyway. But for the great majority of games that come out I am not a day one purchase gamer anymore.

bouzebbal2165d ago

It's just not profitable.. Games are more expensive than physical. Trading and exchanging games isn't possible either.. Yes, digital editions are worthless, and should be boycotted. Even when digital gets cheaper I still don't want to make the move.
It's like if I ask you if you want to get rid of the cash.

In my experience it’s the other way around now or at least has changed over time. My girlfriend and I went in Best Buy yesterday (since it’s open for that now). And I told her anyone who doesn’t know any better is getting ripped off buying digital games in store. They’re all full price, even old games. While on the Microsoft Store a lot of the same games have sales going. R6 Siege was $40 for digital in store. I picked it up for $10 2 days ago before the sale ended on the MS store.

Just have to watch for sales really.

BillyG0AT2165d ago

Yeah, I usually wait for sales anyway. Done it this whole console generation and usually end up getting the games cheaper than I would on disc. Now and again I may end up paying like a fiver more but that's rare

GlutenMifflin2165d ago

I agree! I do buy mostly digital games but I never accepted the fact that a retail box copy is the same price as a digital copy. Clearly they are profiting more.

I will be getting the digital version inside my disc version anyway.

whitbyfox2165d ago

If you get the disc version, you can still download games digitally. So you have 2 options, instead of 1.

Nyxus2165d ago

Not for me. I like being able to play physical copies. It's not like you can't already buy digital with the regular system anyway.

GlutenMifflin2165d ago

Same, I won't buy a digital only system because I like having the option. Saving $100 on the console isn't a big enough incentive to cut that option out.

GordyNYC2165d ago

My PS4 pro might as well be digital since I’ve yet to use the drive.

NeoGamer2322165d ago

Ya, I have thousands of meda between music, movies, and games. Even though I have the physical version I prefer digital because I don't have to get up and swap discs to switch anything.

I use the physical drive only really when I have to.

GordyNYC2165d ago

It behooves Sony to make sure my digital
Library comes across thru the generation as this will incentivize future digital purchases

"Be creative 99% of the time" – Glen Schofield on how creativity can help fix AAA industry woes

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman38d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
