Deathloop Runs at 4K/60 FPS on PS5

i liked the gameplay trailer.. it's explosive reminded me of Bulletstorm in the 70s.
don't know if i'll have possibility to buy this with all the greatness they have shown, but it really looks cool.

The gameplay reminds me more like dishonored but less of th stealth. Also this game is by the same devs.

I think Deathloop looks tremendous. Arkane is an incredible studio with excellent FPS titles like Dishonored and Prey on their jacket, so there is no reason to doubt them. I'm happy to hear it has mp and will run 4K/60 when PS5 launches this holiday. Deathloop is a big launch exclusive for PlayStation.

I think this looks fantastic

Only thing I need to see is how the loop works, it says you only have a day to hunt down the targets otherwise the day will reset and you'll need to start again.

I just hope that doesn't mean there's a time limit within the game, I hate feeling rushed.

I'm sure it's structured to force the loop. But I too am curious how it all plays into the design.

Got really excited for this game. Very stylish, and the premise has me intrigued.

This sounds like an evolution of the formula proposed for the cancelled Arkane title "The Crossing". It meshes mp into the campaign but still manages to maintain a focus on story. I love it. It's very fresh and if done right it could be special. Both Housemarque and Arkane are mixing story based AAA shooters with permadeath roguelike elements beautifully.

Edit: Like what @ColdSin mentioned. I'm surprised it's now a timed exclusive. Wonder if this means Bethesda has started doing deals with Sony now.

It was announced last year at Bethesda's E3 event as a multiplatform game. It is now announced at this event as a timed exclusive to the PS5.

Bethesda has started Sony exclusivity, yes, both Deathloop and Ghostwire are PS5 timed exclusives published by Bethesda and developed by prominent teams.

60 fps is great news. Native 4k is gonna be a huge waste of resources this gen though. The game obviously isn't pushing the envelope in terms of visual fidelity, not that it necessarily needs to do that. Obviously the results will vary on a game to game basis, depending on the engine used, but I think this gives us a good ballpark estimation of what we can expect visually from a 4k/60fps title early on.

i'm of the opinion that 1440p with dlss is better than wasting resources on 4k.it gets pretty much the same result and is less intensive on the hardware. that's what epic did for their ue5 reveal.and the digital foundry guy recieved 4k image versions and couldn't tell the difference between 1440p with dlss and 4k, he had to use photoshop to find it

UE5 didn't use dlss. Dlss is machine learning upscaling. UE5 used temporal upscaling which is still really good but isn't achieved how dlss is achieved. UE5 uses software DLSS uses ML Ai

well whatever upscaling they used it tricked the guy over at digital foundry to the point they had to use photoshop to even find a difference because they couldn't tell and freely admitted this

what do you mean by a waste? Gears 5 has shown that it doesn't really take much to run games at 4K60fps on consoles and with both new consoles having power way more than the X, 4K60fps should be their target IMO. 4KTVs are everywhere now and is only getting cheaper with 8KTVs already making their way to the market. they want to sell consoles, not just games. can you imagine they both coming out with next gen that only do 1440p max but 120fps? majority of console gamers don't care for 120, 144 or 240fps figure. and most mass produced 4KTV nowadays are 60Hz anyway with those having higher refresh rate equipped with Gsync or freesync are expensive or overpriced due to their sheer size compared to small monitors. so yeah, 4K60fps is enough for console games and gamers. no more checkerboarding BS as this is next gen!

In terms of GPU load there is always gonna be a tradeoff between visual complexity of the rendered scene, render resolution, framerate and post processing effects. So the question is what do you prioritize. We've seen most of those aspects improve over time, but unlike resolution which is pushed way into diminishing returns with 4k, we're still seeing a lot of games running at 30fps, which is pretty much the bare minimum framerate you need for a game to be considered playable by most people.

Keep in mind that there is no need to drop all the way down to 1440p either. Reconstruction methods can be used with a wide range of inbetween resolutions. Just as there might not be much of a need to push all the way up to 60fps for every game either. With VRR TVs becoming more prevalent games running at unlocked framerates above 40fps will be a good option in some cases. Obviously games that require very precise inputs will still need locked framerates, but they tend to run at 60fps already.

Not always the case. DF confirmed Ratchet and Clank ran at native 4K and it looks phenomenal.

Could you specify what part of my comment you're responding to? I never said a game running at 4k can't look phenomenal. Keep in mind that Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart has twice the time to render a frame compared to a game running at 60fps.

It isn't enough to say that a game runs @ 4K/60 anymore. My old GTX 780 can dun the original Doom @ 4K/60. We need to know what PC level of settings we're getting, when it comes to textures, shadows, lighting and so on. What settings are they turning down to make the game run @ 4K/60?

Cant you guys just come up with some official standard to go by so whenever something like this comes up, we don't have to keep adding qualifications onto it for the purposes of talking sh*t about a console?

First it's, "It has to be 4K"
Then, "It has to be 4k/60fps"
Then, "It can be 1440/60fps, because that's not too bad"
Then "OK, so it's 4K/60fps, but what level of graphics quality is there, and frame the answer in relation to a PC setting on a particular card".

I can't even imagine what's going to be next....like, how many objects are on the screen, what percentage of the GPU is it using to achieve that resolution and framerate at that PC level of setting, how many jumps is the raytracing using, what is the temperature of the GPU when it's hitting that mark, what's the texel density when parsed through the alpha channel secondary texture?

It's just rediculous to be honest.

I'd be surprised if it didn't. It doesn't exactly look graphically intensive. Akrane games usually aren't.

That's awesome. This can be a great showcase game for your new PS5 4k set up. I have my eye on some 65" Sony's and Samsung's. If you upgrade your TV don't go less than 65" .

As eager as I am to see more of this game, I don't think it's going to push the boundaries in terms of graphics. It'll look good, as Arkane is a pretty good studio. But showcase games would probably be more like Spider-Man or Horizon.

Agreed. You know I never picked up Spiderman PS4 but I think I will get Spiderman Miles Morales! I just hope it has cool villains. I think Guilty Gear Strive will also be a kick ass show off game as well!

Looks great, sounds even better. The mp uses inspiration from The Crossing and the campaign is inspired with roguelike elements but with AAA production and a focus on story.

I'm excited for Deathloop and Ghostwire, but considering Arkane and Tango game works games dont sell that great it's weird to see them go the times exclusive route. Especially considering they are leaving behind the big install base of current gen for a brand new install base. Must have gotten some nice money from Sony. Well, hopefully they do good enough to keep these companies afloat. I need my Evil Within 3 at some point.

Very Nice. Trailer looked pretty cool with an interesting concept.
I look forward to seeing more of this.

Hopefully they can offer an option of 1080p/1440p 60fps with extra graphical detail.
