BioShock: The Collection for Switch - classic games get a solid remaster

Eurogamer: We've already taken a look at BioShock: The Collection's upgrades for PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, and while the sense is that the code isn't quite where it should be right now for those platforms, the same can't be said of the recent Switch release. Virtuos Games has delivered an excellent collection that makes nips and tucks in all of the right places, with all three games in the pack looking good and running well.

Is the bioshock 1 remaster on ps4 worth a buy if you already have the collection? Is it that much different?

What? The collection is the remaster unless you’re talking about jumping from the Switch collection to the PS4 collection. I’d say it’s a noticeable jump as while it takes the redone assets from the remaster, the texture resolution across the board is vastly reduced.

In addition to the lower res textures, there’s the overall lower rendering resolution. 1080p on PS4 or 1440p on PS4 Pro at 60fps compared to the dynamic, largely 900p-ish resolution on Switch at 30fps. I personally would not play Bioshock on Switch knowing the other current versions exist, especially after the Pro and X patches, which despite some performance problems with the enhanced patches, I can attest from personal experience, are not bothersome at all compared to the inherently lower framerate cap on Switch. I guarantee most gamers won’t notice the framerate issues with the Bioshock enhanced patch.

Side note: the stuttering bug on Xbox One X in the first 2 games can be sidestepped by playing while the console is offline. When playing on Xbox One X offline, it’s already a big jump from the original Ps4 copy I played years ago so even with the lower resolution ceiling on Pro or base PS4, you’d be doubly impressed because you’re getting a resolution bump on top of a texture quality bump.

Oh ok. I already have the bioshock collection but I saw the “bioshock remaster” stand alone for 20 dollars on psn. You can get the entire collection for 20 dollars all of the time on sale so I was wondering if it was different than the collection version.
