Why Bioware should kill Mass Effect after Andromeda

The original Mass Effect games were incredible. But what do you do when you can’t top your franchise’s success?

Rumors are we may get news of a Remaster Trilogy perhaps as early as the EA conference.

DOMination-2176d ago

if its as good as c&c then it can't come quick enough. I remember Bioware saying a few years back that they would make the dlc integrate more organically with a remake. That alone would be a great addition

ClayRules20122176d ago

I’d love to play ME2 remastered. Oh that’d be a real treat. Well, if done properly.

pwnmaster30002176d ago

I’ve been waiting all gen for it..
I’m a huge mass effect fan.

People don’t understand that the Mass effect universe can literally expand infinitely.
If you actually read the Codex and see how big the world is, you can make so much games within its universe and still feel fresh.
I really hope they continue it

LordoftheCritics2176d ago

I want to see another storyline in Jade Empire.

Imalwaysright2175d ago

The "old" Bioware was by far my favorite studio in the industry and Jade Empire is one of the many reasons why. As much as I would like to see a Jade Empire 2, I wouldn't trust the current Bioware to give any semblance justice to the original.

neutralgamer19922176d ago

Just remaster the trilogy and include all the dlc and include a teaser for ME4 direct sequel

gamer78042176d ago

I’d rather a new proper game andromeda was decent but didn’t have the character or story of the original trilogy

Mithan2175d ago

A remastered trilogy with improved UI elements, especially in the first game, plus all the DLC, would be awesome. ME2 and 3 still hold up well to this day, but ya, low resolution textures being improved will be a day 1 purchase for me.

I would love to see a proper sequel as well. They just need to pre-plan a new trilogy.

They did kill Mass Effect - during Andromeda, but pretty much the same thing.

Iberius2176d ago

I actually platinumed Andromeda. It was no Mass Effect 1-3 but I actually liked the premise behind it.

That being said, I would prefer any future games be about the after-effect of the Reaper invasion. I think it would be cool to be traveling around the Milky Way trying to re-establish order after the reapers.

BioWare could even write themselves out of the ME3 corner by showing what happened with Shepard and the crew in more detail. They wouldn’t even necessarily need to be main characters again but primary side characters.

Godmars2902176d ago

How do you have adventures set in a post god-machine galaxy? More so one where everything's been "synthesized" into each other.

Iberius2175d ago

@Godmars290: They would need to pick the "destroy" ending as cannon.

Bioware would take some heat for that, but I think enough time has passed at this point it would not be a huge deal, especially if Shepard and the crew come back in some meaningful way.

Exvalos2175d ago

Andromeda is not as bad as people make it out to be, yes compared to mass effect 2 it's not great but it's a playable experience. My main gripe and it's a cosmetic one, is the females are just butt ugly. And a second gripe is I had a really hard time connecting with Rider.

morganfell2176d ago

Came here to say the same thing.

Godmars2902175d ago

What they needed to do was write and produce a better. Not write themselves into a corner at the very least.

solideagle2176d ago

There is no "After Andromeda". Andromeda is the killing part.

Hakuoro2176d ago

No thanks, Mass Effect is the only series EA makes that I am interested in.

And I don't care about the drama surrounding the game. I played it for over 120 hours and enjoyed what the game had to offer. Could it have been even better heck yes, in a ton of different ways. But the idea that it was a bad game is just false.. I wouldn't argue that it was the weakest in the Mass Effect series, but being 4'th in the Olympics is still awesome.

isarai2176d ago

My problem is there are still TONS of IPs they're sitting on that i'd love to see return. Fight night, Burnout, Black, Skate, Mercenaries, etc, but i don't trust modern EA to do those games justice anymore, so i'd rather they leave them alone till they show they can launch a game that isn't half baked and reliant on "surprise mechanics" revenue to fix it afterwards

Hakuoro2176d ago

That's cool. Personally i'm not really interested in any of those.

I really only like Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origins

Optimistically the recent Star Wars single player game will be some sort of wake up call. EA has a lot of talented people all they need to do is put the game ahead of the money a little more and they could do well.

Iberius2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

I agree with this assessment and enjoyed Andromeda too.

I still feel there is a way for them to carry on the original trilogy in the Milky Way. You would think there has to be a lot of new stories to tell about what happened immediately after the Reapers.

I’m all for Commander Shepard passing on the torch to a new protagonist. Lol the man has earned a break.

Hakuoro2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

Honestly, I don't think the Andromeda story was bad, starting a new colony in a new galaxy was a great way to restart a new trilogy.

My biggest complaints was that there were only two species compared to all the species the original games had. And tied into that was that they tried to sell all the other species (Quarians) as DLC which they didn't even make. And the fathers/Jein Garcen story that also was left unfinished to be sold as DLC which I though was really interesting and going places. And that major sections of the story seemed to be told out of order.

I would like them to continue the 2'nd game and continue the choices made in the first game, that's really my favorite thing about Mass Effect is the way the games carry over the story choices. Just add some new races don't make obvious story cuts for DLC and I'll be happy.

rainslacker2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

It was an alright game. I played it after they fixed most of the things that people mocked it over.

The story was half decent, but I feel the bad guy started off interesting, then became kind of cliched. I didnt really have much investment in my team mates, and even less in the side characters that padded the game.

Game play was actually pretty good if you didnt become too overpowered early on, which was easy to do if you did the side stuff as it became available. Half of the side stuff was pretty tedious though.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio22d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing22d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9222d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit22d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing22d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9222d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
