Electronic Arts Release Command & Conquer Remastered Collection

Carl Williams writes, "Command & Conquer was a unique release in the mid 1990’s. Real Time Strategy (RTS) games were not new, just this game took off with fans. Was it the locale, military themed, or was it the improved approach to the genre? Command & Conquer touched base with many fans and went onto be a massive success. Now almost three decades later, Electronic Arts (EA) has released a remastered version of the first game, with expansions. They also included Red Alert just because they can."

Just bought it on Steam... the first PC game I've played since Diablo III.

triverse2166d ago

I am thinking about grabbing it. Even though I have the originals, I want to show them support for this type of thing - remastered, no DLC, no microtransactions, etc. Times like this is when gamers can show publishers there is a better way.

Vegamyster2165d ago

It's true fan service, i look forward to what the community creates from it.

Agito19872164d ago

Pick it up.
It's a great remaster with al lot of behind the scenes extras and quality of live improvements.
Awesome soundtrack!

Mods for new factions would be awesome.

I really want to buy this but EA though.. if it wasn't for them, we'd still be getting C&C games.

triverse2164d ago

I hope that this does well so they see there are fans for these games, and games that lack microtransactions and such.

xTonyMontana2164d ago

You reap what you sow though, no microtransactions and positive reviews are encouraging but I have a fair few friends who literally boycott EA now after all the dodgy crap they've pulled in the past. It'll take more consistency from them with ethical practices to convert them.

psuedo2164d ago

Love steam for all it's retro options. Will definitely pick it up eventually. Need a RTS game comeback.

triverse2164d ago

Over on GoG.com right now you can get Total Annihilation for free.

Command & Conquer Remastered Collection was a success - so what's next for the RTS franchise?

From Eurogamer: "I think it's fair to say Command & Conquer Remastered Collection was a resounding success. EA's nostalgia-fuelled real-time strategy revival was a hit with fans and critics alike when it launched in June - and it saw big sales on Steam. But as its developers continue to support the game with balance updates, tweaks and mod support, the inevitable question is this: what's next for Command & Conquer?

I've seen plenty of requests for EA to continue to work with the developers at Petroglyph Games and Lemon Sky Studios on more remasters of classic C&C games. It seems natural for EA to tackle Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 next. But I also wonder whether the success of Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, which, let's be honest, is the first good thing to happen to the franchise in a decade (Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances, Command & Conquer: Generals 2 and mobile game Command & Conquer Rivals all failed in various ways) means the powers that be at EA may now consider the time right to invest in a new, fully-fledged Command & Conquer game."

I’d love a half remaster/remake for Tiberium Sun with the cut content/ideas that never made it into the game, then a straight remaster for RA2 afterwards.

BillyG0AT2093d ago

I hope it's a fully fleshed out C&C game and not a micro transaction infested mobile game

CorndogBurglar2093d ago (Edited 2093d ago )

How about a proper Command and Conquer 4? Tiberian Twilight was a complete P.O.S. Lets just forget that one and re-do it.

Mr Marvel2093d ago

Red Alert 2... the best strategy game of all time.
