It's a step forward for Stop Killing Games.
Seems like it's hard to be a PC Mag now in days...
I would be more surprised if EGM stays in print for another year than if it gets canned and moved to 1Up only. Subscriptions have been dropping, most people get their news/reviews/features on the Internet now anyway, and all of the free subscription offers floating around certainly don't help with matters.
Definitely hard to keep a print mag profitable nowadays. Game Informer seems to be doing okay, but they also have tons of exclusives (which they are likely paying a large sum for) and some of the best editorial pieces in print.
The hardcore crowd would likely love to see The Escapist in print, but I doubt that will ever happen.
The loss of a print magazine would be sad, but obviously not shocking. I don't think print media is going to die, but can video game mags find a way to survive? I think the question partly lies in whether people will pay to read content aside from the exclusive review and preview. But that's another story..
Good piece; I will be sad should EGM decide to go.
