Five things you didn't know about New Xbox Experience

By now, most Xbox 360 owners have probably had the chance to spend time tinkering with the New Xbox Experience update. It's a radical reimagining of the console's interface and has added a load of new features, including the oft-debated Avatars. But if you've only spent time customising your new character and ripping Gears of War 2 to the hard drive, then you might have missed some of the other less well-know features. Read on for five of our faves.

The addition of avatars is what really baffles me.

Is there any particular point in avatars? At least with Miis they are used in some of the games. But avatars seem to be aimed at children - I mean can you imagine your avatar running around in Gears 2? Why have they added this feature?

PureGamer6392d ago

There are a few games out on the marketplace that use avatars and ms has said there will be a load more. So theres a start.

original seed6392d ago

Such as UNO, Scene it, 1vs100 plus other family type games.

tatotiburon6392d ago

and don't forget "Primetime"...thor better look next time bashing a extra feature

Bnet3436392d ago

You can tell thor doesn't have an Xbox 360. The people above me already stated.

Pennywise6392d ago

Tato - Better lUCk next time saying what you mean to say.

Hmm guess I was misinformed. My point still stands though. It's not in-keeping with the kind of games people play on the console. It still baffles me even though they managed to patch some games to integrate the Avatars. I hate the way the success of the Wii is dictating what other console manufacturers are doing - i.e. moving to capture the Wii's audience.

I play All types of game. Sure i play Gears and Fallout but i also play UNO, Kameo, Fable2 and VIVA Pinata

My wife doesn't play Gears. She plays Fable and Banjo and Viva Pinata at the moment.

The 360 caters to all. So the Avatars are a good addition.

so does anyone think ms is gonna add the internet browser as a new feature later in the future or is it just me

InMyOpinion6392d ago

I don't see the point of browsing the Internet on your console. Most people with an Internet connection own a PC. It just seems clumsy to do it on your console instead of your PC.

GrandTheftZamboni6392d ago

... so, NO, MS is not gonna add it.
:)

I_am_rushin6392d ago

Yeah I don't see any reason to watch Hulu on my 46" Tv instead of my 19" monitor

5 things you did know:

1. it causes RRoD
2. avatars are a complete rip off of Wii's Mii's
3. the old themes you paid for, no longer work
4. Microsoft know all about the problems and bugs surrounding NXE
5. its to try draw in the casual crowd tottaly forgetting about the hardcore loyal user, but hey, where there is money micro$oft will go.

iMad6392d ago

99,999999% of XBOX owners happy with NXE.

Magic_The_Celt6392d ago

i think you mean 99.999999% ?

or are you another silly yank

NewZealander6392d ago

yeah you are pretty uninformed

how does NXE cause RROD? i dont know one single person thats had a problem, oh so blogs are fact now on N4G! sorry i forgot.

i really like the avitars, they have way more class then the wii ones so dont even go there, plus im sure ive seen the sony avitars somewhere before....ohh its the sony mii sims.

the old themes still work, most just look a bit stupid tho, i did find a few that actually look better, but bro that fable 2 premium theme ROCKS!

theres bugs with everything bro, but so far ive had no problems with the update, pretty slick, loads fast and looks good.

and the casual market is HUGE to ignore that would be a pretty stupid move dont you think? the avitars are pretty fun, its amazeing how some of my friends have made perfect toon replicas, some are so close to the real thing its freaky!

and no im not pro MS, im just against stupid (whingeing) people that like to bash every chance they get.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde31d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy31d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
