My trick is something called resignation.

With next gen looming I find im losing interest in current gen gaming, its mad I know, I'm already mentally moving on.

My problem is I like replaying old games. I'm currently replaying TLOU and AC Odyssey

I know exactly what he is writing about. Digital hoarding in great sales, many unfinished games.... I usually play to end big AAA exclusive games (like spiderman, god of war, days gone, horizon zero dawn, etc...) then AAA expected games (like doom /eternal, wolfenstein) and then only few indie games (like recently what remains of edith finch). But I have so so so so much in my backlog (one example of many: really great and fun game Shadow of mordor and the other part - I dont know its name - I want to finish it, but cant find time).

But thats not about being able to buy anything. Its about time and large quantity of quality games.
I remember in 90s we pirated every game and had ton of time, but there were few excepional games. So we were always hungry for new games. But now? There is ton of very good games even in same genre. There are also lot of games, that lasts tenths of hours. You have to choose wisely.

My new years resolution this year was to clear some games from the backlog, and I'm so proud to say that it's about to be 14 games cleared with about half the year left! My favorite way to do this is to keep a list and watch it grow as you complete more games :)

Never start a game you don't intend to finish. That's the golden rule and it's what I tell myself overtime just before I go right ahead and do the opposite.

Finish a game before you buy a new one.

I dealt with this problem everytime lol buy a new game on sale , play for a little then thats it. but i noticed tho for the past few weeks i been playing most of my games that i feel to play or haven't ina while even ones that i bought recently too. what i do now is i got a backlog right pick 2-3 games i'll play then once i get bored i tackle one or two new ones after that go back to the other games & switch in between while completing them little by little. Then at times ill do a clean up and if i see a game i won't play for awhile and won't care till later i delete it. next thing u no my hard drive is full of games im currently getting into of different genres.

I've had some success by keeping one game for each genre on going. That way when I'm not in the mood I have some choice. Keep one fps, one 3rd, on strategy, one indie whatever side scrolling, etc.

One year I said no game purchases the entire year. I made it until about summer. Currently I've been only buying under a certain price on my wishlist on steam sales. Lime under 5 or $7.

Actually what worked the best is once I found on online game that I loved for a year and didn't buy or play anything else until it closed...Total War Arena.

I've given up on playing everything that I want to play anymore.

My backlog needs serious attention. One game I play almost every day is Beat Saber on my PlayStation VR (an hour or so tops), then move on to finding which game I want to start playing, and spend like 30 minutes deciding what I even want to play, and by then I’m exhausted at the thought of playing and either play for a short period of time, or play nothing. My backlog is daunting and exhausting to look at for some reason. Lol

I really like this, I have the same issue and I agree. Gotta have self control and finish the games I already own. This almost fits me to a T I have over 300+ games in my backlog as well. Though I do seem to always buy a new game, I hardly have the time to put into them... Though I’ve been committing myself to finish my games and the ones I don’t play anymore I’ll just remove. Though I do sometimes go back and download some of those games that I miss playing.

Like right now I’m playing the Dead Space trilogy.
