Major problems Xbox Series X needs to fix for Microsoft

If Microsoft plays its cards right, the Xbox Series X could even win the next-gen battle. A few years back, that seemed unthinkable.

Here are the key issues Microsoft needs to address with the Series X if it wants a shot at victory. The company appears to have plans for some. Others, not so much. All seem necessary for the Xbox Series X to tower over the PlayStation 5 come Holiday 2020 and beyond.

“If Microsoft plays its cards right, the Xbox Series X could even win the next-gen battle. A few years back, that seemed unthinkable.”

That’s always unthinkable. Xbox brand doesn’t have the global clout to come out on top in console sales.

Xbox 360 in particular is the only console in history that sold over 45 million in North America yet still failed to cross 100 million worldwide, which speaks volumes of how limited Xbox’s commercial appeal can be.

I agree.

PlayStation was first on the scene and they're firmly entrenched, and they've always solidly delivered with games. This has been consistent since the birth of PlayStation.

Though every brand has its downtimes, PlayStation has always kept up the excitement. If there was a dry point, PlayStation users would always be assured that a potential hit was just around the corner, keeping things exciting. Microsoft and Xbox on the other hand have simply and utterly failed to do this.

I like both brands, but Xbox needs to get in gear and start delivering some real excitement - they need wave after wave of it, in fact.

what will happen is series x will announce a bunch of games but none of them will be at a quality level when compared to sony because they'll all have budget constraints for their streaming service. at least that's what i'm expecting. in short aside from halo/gears/forza a bunch of AA not AAA

@phoenix

Quality is certainly an issue as well - definitely, but this gen Microsoft didn't even bother showing up to the party. They never arrived. They've done a few things I've liked, but the general output of games and quality games at that has been simply nil, and that's the biggest problem.

Microsoft and Xbox need to consistently deliver tangible excitement from here on out. They need to be like Sony in that regard - how even when things are dry, there's something just around the corner to keep us perked up and attentive and excited.

They need to focus their teams on utterly brand new franchises - utterly brand new. They're just getting stale now. Okay, they have things in the works, great, but we need to see it, and we need to see it now. They need to actually show us these things very soon. No more 'We have X studios working on X amount of -- 'No Microsoft, show us now.'

The real issue is that by going with this multi - PC/iOS/console - agenda MS have made their own console a minor if not outright non factor. They're measuring success in terms of subscriptions, not hardware or even software.

Yes, overall structure of Game Pass gives or should give devs creative freedom, let them explore any genre of game, MS's mindset since COD and Halo 2 has been online coop, and they're not going to give that up anytime soon, they have no reason to. After three console gens have yet to realize the limitations that causes.

Make better exclusive games and keep at it the whole generation. Regardless of any features or subscriptions games help sell hardware

Look at Nintendo and Sony even during worst of times they still delivered great must play exclusives

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
