I won't if they stay true to the event of the original game which they won't because the ending is there to show that they are ready to change the story.

NecrumOddBoy2204d ago

Bro, you aren't a Playstation gamer. Just stop.

Spurg2204d ago

I've been a PlayStation gamer since PS1 days. Just because I argue for Xbox doesn't mean I game only on there exclusively. Often when I show up is when people spread misinformation.
I know more about Final fantasy 7 than anyone else here on N4G. There is no arguments to be had with any of the fans here.

Rocketisleague2204d ago

I beg to differ, spurg. I will ff7 pwn you butthole and back again. I haven't finished remake yet though so gimme time to see the changes, somehow I haven't been spoiled on the ending yet.

XD

Babadook72204d ago (Edited 2204d ago )

Just because they can change the story does not mean that they will. They will almost certainly change a few negative things from the OG (which fans have been trying to reverse since the original btw) but don't pretend that the original story isn't still going to play out much the same otherwise.

Kran2203d ago (Edited 2203d ago )

Okay but real talk...

Why would they start adding things that somewhat change the story... If they're not going to fully change the story? The idea of the whispers is that they're meant to keep the timeline on track. If you've seen the ending of the game (MASSIVE SPOILERS) .
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
..
.
.
..
we learn that Cloud used those 7 seconds Sephiroth gave him and saved Zack... So Zack is alive... That's already changing it isn't it? (I'm asking a question as I don't know the full FF7 story as I've only played the remake)

Babadook72203d ago

"Why would they start adding things that somewhat change the story... If they're not going to fully change the story?"

Spoiler warning
.
.
.
.
Because they only need to change one or two things in particular and this gives you the means and motivation to carry that out. There is no reason to change the overall goal and progress of the characters which is Sephiroth and the end of the world.

tontontam02204d ago (Edited 2204d ago )

They've introduced multiple scenarios that depends on your choices, I hope they continue with that route and just give us multiple endings.maybe ff7 elitist fake fans like you won't complain, I've played ff7 so many times I won't mind even if they change the story. When I want to see the original story then I'd just play the og FF7 again on steam or on my switch or on my phone or on my ps4 or xbox.

Spurg2204d ago

"maybe ff7 elitist fake fans like you won't complain"
You sound like those people that couldn't come to terms with how bad the ending was so you start name-calling, defending it, and going with the flow of Nomura's disjointed narrative.
The game was revealed as a remake of FF7 and everyone was expecting a remake. Little did we know they are not remaking it but remaking the timeline with a different story. That is not what the fans wanted...fans got sold something they got something else. People have yet to come to terms with the ending of the game.

tontontam02204d ago (Edited 2204d ago )

"You sound like those people that couldn't come to terms with how bad the ending was so you start name-calling"

what ending? as far as I'm concerned there is no ending yet.
As of now the only complaint I have is that I have to spend more than $60 to play the full ff7 remake, what's worse is it may take many years.

Well I like the characters in ff7 so much I can't help but play the remake asap, I'm glad they are spending showing the character's background story.

OMNlPOTENT2204d ago

I really hope you know when you say stuff like “I know more about x than anyone else!” It just makes you sound arrogant.

kayoss2204d ago

You probably dont even own a PS4, youre just on Youtube watching the spoilers and coming in here regurgitating what you heard. Maybe wait until next year when its out on Xbox, then you can make comments. RIght now your comments are pointless. You have a history and we all know about it so just put a lid on it because no one want to hear from you.

Spurg2204d ago

No one on this board is able to discuss FF remake the way I'm doing. Which further proves my point.
Fyi I'm not pathetic enough to watch a full game of YouTube. I play, it dissect it and discussed it. You can't accept that a supporter of Xbox knows more about this game than you.
And no one has broken down disk one the way I did in previous threads.
If you have any valuable contribution how about you move along.

will wait till its all done, then buy, past caring now, my backlog is too big.

harmny2204d ago

It will be done by 2035 at this pace

CaptainOmega2204d ago

The hard part of developing the game is over. Part 2 was in development about a year before Part 1 came out.

FinalFantasyFanatic2204d ago

@CaptainOmega,

Didn't they say they were only in the early concept stages or just finished the concept stage for part 2? Doesn't sound like it'll be here for another 2 or so years.

MWH2204d ago

That's my plan if i'm still around.

MadLad2204d ago

Pretty much where I sit. I don't see the point in sitting; waiting for years, between releases, to re-experience the (mostly) same story I experienced years ago.
They chose to spread this out into multiple releases.

rainslacker2204d ago

They'll finish up the original game's story at some point. If it goes on past that, then it is what it is.

Spurg2204d ago

I remember, I predicted what would happen.

"If it goes on past that, then it is what it is."
They are changing the story so it won't follow the original despite the makers saying otherwise. They are deviating the story so it fixes what they say is the bad ending of the original FF7. They will visit the same places but the context and objective will be different.
In previous articles, I did a plan showing how the event will pan out. And if they stay true the quality of ff7 remake, it will take at least 2 more games to get to the end of disk 1. That's if they want to expand the story as they did with FF7. And if they don't then they doing fans will be a grave injustice and will be sending mixed messages. Why expand Midgard and not other parts of the story.
There are now stuck in a catch 22 situation.

sinspirit2204d ago (Edited 2204d ago )

I'm pretty confident they stuck to Midgar so they didn't butcher the open world aspect for the remake trying to work it on current gen hardware and dev time constraints. They probably won't take the same level of liberty with the sequels, and it's not necessary to lengthen them out to the same degree as the Midgar Remake.

I'm hopeful that Part 2 will take advantage of next-gen hardware. The open world is so important for the original. So many elements would be removed and restructured if not for it

Babadook72204d ago

"I know more about Final fantasy 7 than anyone else here on N4G"

Lol. You don't know more than me, so that's false.

"They are changing the story so it won't follow the original despite the makers saying otherwise."

Oh, guess you know more than the makers too?

kayoss2204d ago

Now youre a prophet? Funny you couldnt Predict the fact that Xbox One X wouldnt have any compelling exclusive games for you to play.

Kavorklestein2204d ago

Honestly the open world/ overworld part of FF7is the part I dislike the most. Chocobos and all. I would rather have races, cutscenes, or more character development thrown in as opposed to basically roaming the whole world and not really having much happen unless you visit a landmark or enter a town. If they can make exploration FUN then of course I'm game. Maybe Highwind flying could be graceful and beautiful instead of choppy and robotic and goofy. Maybe riding Chocobos could actually have some kind of sense of Speed or something? I am kinda curious to see what happens next.

I also hope the Gold Saucer is WAY more fleshed out with tons more games and events and more variety instead of feeling like a childhood dream hybrid of a old mall's dying arcade with 5 working machines mixed with slidey tubes from a Texas sized McDonald's play place. I truly hope the quality of the Remake continues as it has. I like it better on just about every level, even though the story is different in some interesting ways.

rainslacker2204d ago

If it follows close enough I'm fine with it. I've finished the game, and haven't seen anything so drastic that it ruins the rest of the story. It expanded a lot on the characters, and made some characters more relatable, with motivations that are more fleshed out early on. Some of the stuff in the game wasn't even explained until much later in the original story.

I think what they've done overall is really good, and if they can manage to keep up that same level of story telling, I'm all for it over another couple games. it could grow long in the tooth if they keep trying to milk the original story, but it didn't feel like that in the first game.

I know some others feel different about it, but I've liked the game, and I'm currently working on my hard play through and not skipping over any of the more interesting story scenes as I'd normally do. There are a couple spots where it drags on a bit, and some design choices I think they need to refine in terms of how they built the world, but overall, I think they did a great job of recreating the story.

lucian2292204d ago

I loved the game and the original. I think to. Be safe it should only. Be 2-3 more games. I would like the games to go and finish dirge of cerberus story too

wraith99992204d ago

if they go forward and do that without going back and doing crisis core i might have to murder someone over @ square haha

Spurg2204d ago

It's naive to think that the game will cover the original story in just 2-3 games. It's impossible unless they cut content.

kayoss2204d ago (Edited 2204d ago )

And its Naive of you to think that they wont. FF7 is a cash cow, you honestly think they would let their cash cow run dry? If you claim to know so much about FF7, you should have known that SquareENix have been milking FF7 for the last 23 years. You had movies, you hadspin offs, you had cameos, you had sequels, you had prequels, you had remasters, an now you have remakes. You think they wont put their efforts into making into 4, 5, or 6 games if its necessary? FF7 remake part 1 was a 40 + hour game and its was only in Midgar (and they didnt even cut content, they actually added more to the game). So GTFO here with your "I know everything about FF7" BS.

tontontam02204d ago (Edited 2204d ago )

I got a feeling that you haven't played enough open world games this gen, I feel like you are stuck in the past.
they can finish this game in 2-3 games. the only thing that is stopping them is how much are they willing to milk the game.

Nerdmaster2204d ago (Edited 2204d ago )

I don't really care if it doesn't get completed. I was very excited while playing the game, thinking it was awesome, until the last episode when...

[SPOILERS]

They clumsily included all that talk about "Destiny", timelines, those "misterious" talks like "if we go through this we'll lose ourselves", the Whispers acting like a Deus Ex Machina, Sephiroth opening a portal and Aerith turning it white for some reason... It feels like they wanted to make changes to the story but didn't want to make the fans of the original game angry, so they made up all of this unnecessary thing just to justify the changes, like "hey, don't get mad, this is just another timeline!".

I felt like playing Kingdom Hearts, a series known for its convoluted plot. After finishing it, I found out that KH's freaking director also directed FFVII Remake!!! Just... just no.

"Now, I’m not saying that Nomura is wholly to blame for all these games being such massive, bloated projects. That would be rude, and also reductive."
Well, I don't think it's just a coincidence that all the projects he works with turn out like this. He should implement the KISS principle of software development. "Keep It Simple, St****"!

SyntheticForm2204d ago

Massive disappointment with side quest padding, main mission padding, and draggy, tedious tiresome traversal. Climb, squeeze, duck, climb, squeeze, duck, tightrope walk, repeat, repeat, repeat.

If this were a new IP, and you were running around as Butch and Jane instead of Cloud and Tifa, do you think this game would be getting the pass it is? Of course not. The name is what sells this. Do you think people would have bought this game if the demo instead featured that lame section where you're turning off lamps, and not the intro of the original, beat for beat? Hell no. SE led people to believe this would be much more faithful to the original than it was by strategically releasing a beat for beat opening demo of the original - modernized of course.

The sidequests: The side quests and their respective NPCs are dull. They're inane filler with nothing to add to the overarching plot. There's nothing to gain from doing them besides the very basic rewards, and there's no payoff to them. It's filler, pure and simple. It's designed to waste your time. Instead of well-crafted, interesting, or thought provoking stories (a la Witcher 3), you're handed a checklist of monsters to kill, cats and kids to find, and throwaway NPCs to talk to. The dichotomy of Ms Folia, the wholesome orphanage owner by day and Honey Bee dancer with a dream by night. Interesting? You bet it isn't.

Every story beat - every single one is separated by a massive amount of meaningless filler that adds nothing to the game.

The first indication of this is the Air Buster section, where you run between identical looking rooms through empty rampways, fighting identical looking grunts to find identical keycards to go to identical terminals, just to do it again. You do that four times, when the whole thing could be simplified down to a ten minute section. It's stupid and unnecessary, and it adds nothing to the game. The payoff for all that should be fighting Air Buster, and finally doing so utterly fails to be that payoff. The idea with this section is that you're trying to sabotage Air Buster by rescinding part orders, but it doesn't feel like the fight changes, and it feels like trickery to make it seem as though your actions have impact when they don't.

This game is full of that. It's full of mindless, tedious filler intercut with a story that stays to the original in some regards, but generally goes off the rails.

FinalFantasyFanatic2204d ago

argh... The filler, I'm only up to Chapter 8, but that bloody trip to reactor 5 was so painful for me, I had to push through it, if that section was half as long I might have enjoyed it. You can really tell they tried hard to stretch a less than 10 hour section into a full game, and this game really shines when we get to the major story events and character interaction.

I’d love to know how many units have been sold of all the Final Fantasy VII franchise games, including the original, the remakes, spin offs such as Crisis Core, and mobile games Ever Crisis. I bet a fair few copies.

I bought the game yesterday on steam for $4 because Square Enix is trying to replace it with a version that has no mod support.

Prior to yesterday, I had no idea the game had so many great mods until people started making a fuss out of it.

You can thank FF7 scaring Baldur's Gate 2's director 'S***less' for every RPG since

But BG2 didn't emerge in a vacuum, and in a recent chat with Slandered Gaming it emerged that—while we can thank BG2 for a lot of our favourite RPGs since—we have a whole other game to thank for BG2. That'd be Final Fantasy 7, which lit a fire under BG2 director James Ohlen to go all out with the game's structure and companions, per Trent Oster—who worked on the original Baldur's Gate and has since become CEO of Beamdog, the studio behind the BG1 and BG2 Enhanced Editions.
