Really just want to see the console tear down now, really interested in how it's all been put together, are we getting a traditional shape or something a bit more unique? The audio engine is cool though, a whole gpu just to do sound, crazy.

Retroman2177d ago

Show the Dab-burn console already.

Controller look great.

IRetrouk2177d ago

Yeah I get they will show when ready but i am getting impatient now lol

Babadook72177d ago

The rumor is the console will be shown when they get the first batch off assembly line. Should be soon.

IRetrouk2177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

Yeah it's either sometime this month or next, cant see it being any longer than that, just being impatient, but I'm ready lol.

PyroMessiah862176d ago

Controller looks like a tanktop. Features maybe better than it looks but it looks pretty bad tbh

Iberius2177d ago (Edited 2177d ago )

Normally, I'd say they'll stick to tradition, but the controller makes me think it might be more unique than we're expecting. I'll hazard a guess though and say it will not look like a refrigerator.

IRetrouk2177d ago

I defo think its gonna be two-toned like the controller, just wondering about that v from the dev kits

DigitallyAfflicted2176d ago

I’ve got the filing it will be a tower but cylindrical shape... With some twists, spins and twirls

DarXyde2176d ago

I'm feeling really sure it will have some variant of the V shape.

Not only did they patent it, but it's just a suspicious amount of work into a development kit's design to just be axed in the final design.

But perhaps the biggest indicator, to me at least, is that the development kit is 13TF with that unusual design. Fair to say in my opinion that the dev kit was up-spec'd to stress test performance with that design.

I gotta say, I love the DualSense design. I think the controller is going to inform some interesting design choices for the console. Expect it to look very unconventional. Sony is beginning to really show that they're not just playing it safe, and the reactions from the development community seem to display genuine fascination and excitement.

I don't think you do that by sticking to convention.

mandingo2176d ago

It's called design. A major reason it's more powerful than the ps5.

More and more PS5 seems to be a great balanced piece of engineering that they spread next-gen power to graphics, sound, physics, I/O, controls, i.e., they believe that a true experience cannot be fulfilled only with graphics or sound. Even the new synaptic controller is present to make a new level of experiences and IMO this level of technical harmonization / balancing, brings cost down to the profit of consumers. Very well Sony!

IRetrouk2177d ago

The more I have read into and went over what cerny said, the more I'm understanding what hes done, it's a different take on console design, very excited to see what devs can do with it.

Profchaos2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

It's a approach I don't remember seeing since the SNES and Sega or ps1 / 64 era just completely different strategies in two capable consoles.
If you were around in those eras then you might remember the same game having strengths and weaknesses in both consoles honestly it was actually fun to compare them because there was never a better version.

But Sony's holistic approach sounds more fun to play in all honesty the new controller sounds awesome it's VR capabilities could be huge and the X sounds more like my gaming PC a powerhouse that runs everything buttery smooth but the feeling of the game doesn't always benefit from that some games feel better at a locked frame rate GTA v for example

neutralgamer19922176d ago

I think Sony will do one big event and how the hardware and software

Reveal event ps5 my guess

June 1st or 2nd week

Spiderman 2
MGS remake
Reboot for siren or PT
Horizon 2
Next COD
Demon souls remake
One FPS reboot(either KZ or resistance)

November 2020
$399

IRetrouk2176d ago

Not a bad shout to be fair, I too hope it's all released in one go, not sure but this gamefest thing seems to point at multiple videos and stuff, who knows though lol, just looking forward to seeing the finished product and getting a look at the insides.

neutralgamer19922176d ago

I think they will do one big one now and one closer to launch. In between we may see more announcements

I think they will do this one big one at first to gain a lot of momentum. They realized how big that first E3 was and how big that E3 of dreams was

Imagine if they come in and have exclusive rights to MGS, silent Hill etc everyone and their grandma's expect bluepoint yo be working on demon souls what if in actuality they were working on MGS1 remake (even snakes voice actor said he would love to be part of it) just throwing out things not even a guess more of a what I would like to see

CaptainHenry9162176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

Maybe a teaser trailer of God of War sequel or Sony Bends new title

IRetrouk2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

Yeah I get what you are saying neutral, I'm just trying to keep from getting over-excited, I'm going in expecting a console reveal with a tear-down to follow and some games, not sure what they could be working on, been way too many rumors, isnt blueprint working on multiple games? That's another thing to consider lol we will def see some first party stuff, no doubt about it.

I think we will get a few teases of future products in between all the launch games announced captain, looking forward to a bunch of yet to be confirmed stuff lol

throne2176d ago

I'm hoping we get something this month since the playstation magazine issue is set for June 2nd and indicates next gen games also hope we get some studio acquisitions updates as well

At this stage it’s the tempest engine keeping me from going over to the Series X. I couldn't really care less about the difference in speed between the SSD’s.

Kavorklestein2176d ago

Serious? Interesting. I feel like good sound has already been at way more than satisfactory levels for two gens now. I don't see "3d sound" as doing much for more for me personally than it already does in games when I already have a headset 7.1 surround and atmos. I am curious to see if this even pans out to be more than a simple cpu boost because of the hardware tbh. Although the hardware part is kinda cool, I just don't feel excited about this feature in any way tbh. Just my opinion.

2176d ago
IRetrouk2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

We have no idea what that dedicated hardware is though shaggy, is it as good as what sony has done? Nobody knows because it's one thing micro didnt go into detail on, we dont know what or how they have done it, what the engine consists of or anything.

2176d ago
1nsomniac2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

The depth of design into Tempest seems far more advanced than Xbox offering. The fact that the idea is to custom the sound to your own custom ear response. That’s what interests me. There’s a lot more can be done to audio in the industry it’s currently pretty poor. Surround sound and 3D audio are 2 very different things. Although technically speaking 3D audio is just a fancy term for surround sound. It just has more of an emphasis on direct positional audio. Which is massively lacking in general.

Born2Game832176d ago

Sounds great but overwhelming majority of gamers don't have expensive audio equipment or expensive headgear to take advantage of this. So most developers outside of first party probably wont use it.

Firevapour2176d ago

I'm not sure where you get this idea from that you would need expensive audio equipment to make use of the PS5s audio capabilities mate? All you need is a basic 5.1 amp/reciever or surround sound home theater setup. And to tell you the truth, I don't know hardly anyone these days that doesnt have some sort of basic surround system hooked up (especially tech savy console owners/gamers). Heck, thinking back, I haven't been without a surround system since at least 1995 when I got my first Dolby Pro-Logic system. I'm pretty sure there would be a lot of other gamers like myself.

Kavorklestein2176d ago

Doesn't sound overwhelming, just overrated.

IRetrouk2176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

Works with everyday headphones, you dont need anything extra to take advantage of sonys new sound engine other than headphones, its 3d audio for everyone with atleast a cheap headset.

rainslacker2175d ago

The idea behind the sound engine is that it improves sound for those without expensive sound systems. It does this through in engine processes so the dev doesn't even have to do much.

How effective it is remains to be seen. I've never been overly impressed with anything that simulates sound in the past, especially for surround sound.

"the fact that the PS5 will handle it on the hardware end of things means that not only will it be much easier to implement, it will also be a huge boost to the console’s CPU."

Tempest is going to be a huge PS5 custom feature that will help developers ease their work and make amazing sound experiences.

Can't wait to hear more!!!

Born2Game832176d ago

It sounds pretty nice. But doubt many developers will use it. Overwhelming majority of gamers don't have expensive audio equipment or expensive headgear to take advantage of this. People just use their TV audio to play games.

nitus102176d ago

You can get 2.1 and even 5.1 sound systems for very much less than USD$300 that are quite impressive and surprisingly easy to setup. Even "soundbars" (2.1 and 5.1 or better) are relatively cheap and are very compact. Of course, you could also go for 7.1 headphones for less than USD$100 or (shock horror) earbuds which you can plug directly into your dual shock controller.

Note1: The PS4 by default comes with a mono earbud which supports voice chat and recognition.

Note2: You can plug good voice chat headphones into your PS4 controller and they work really well although you will drain the battery faster (approx 5 to 7 hours depending on what you are playing).

Most TV sound systems are 2.0 stereo and unless you are willing to pay for an expensive TV they are very much sub-par, still, they do output sound, just don't expect any kind of immersion.

Sprucegoose772176d ago

Um no they don't. Most TV's speakers and audio suck. You can get a decent little sound system without breaking the bank!

sa739172176d ago

Pretty big statement to make "people just use their tv audio to play games". Care to provide some sort of research for this statement? Personally I don't know anyone that uses the standard audio on their TV whether they're playing games, watching movies or just TV. Sound bars and basic receiver setups are so cheap these days you'd be mad to stick with the basic shit in most TVs

FinalFantasyFanatic2176d ago

I'm going to chime in and say most people these days have at least a sound bar (almost anything is better than most TV's speakers), I'm planning to upgrade my own AV receiver this year and add additional speakers next year probably.

cd12176d ago

I seem to remember Cerny mentioning it wont need specific audio HW to work.

Born2Game832176d ago

@Sprucegoose77 yes they do. Most people can barely afford to buy a $400 console. You think they will spend extra hundred of dollars on a sound setup. Its common sense that people use just what they have. So their TV.

Born2Game832176d ago

@sa73917 yeah its called common sense. Most people who can barely buy a $400 console will go out and spend hundred of dollars of dedicated sound system. COMMON FREAKING SENSE.

rainslacker2175d ago (Edited 2175d ago )

I have a LG TV which has pretty decent built in speakers. They dobt provide very good bass, but the audio is clear enough, and the TV is big enough to provide at least stereo sound.

I still run it through a rather nice surround sound set up because I like my home theater sound, but if I for some reason do listen to the tv speakers it doesbt turn me off that much.

Otherwise, there are a lot of really decent surround sound options out there for less than $300. Even a $100 sound bar is probably going to provide better sound than a tv. Then there are a lot of nice headphones out there that provide really good 3d sound for less than $100.

The_Sage2175d ago (Edited 2175d ago )

You are way off, Born. Every gamer I know has a full surround sound set up. As a matter of fact, I only know one person that doesn't have a surround set up. My mother in law. She mostly watches soap operas and would know good sound if it bit her on the ass.

Also... I don't think that most people can barely afford a $400 console. I can put you in touch with my financial advisor. Maybe you just need better money management.

Born2Game832175d ago

@The_Sage yeah sure. Every gamer you know? wow that's like every other gamer on this planet /s. Again its common sense. Most people don't buy expensive sound setups unless its for a proper home theater. Its pointless arguing with stupid people. They always try to bring u down to their lvl.

The Tempest Engine is effectively the hardware chip inside the PS5 which makes all of this fancy 3D audio technology possible, As Mark Cerny said, tempest engine inside PS5 can be used for other tasks than 3D audio even though audio is its primary goal. Tempest engine alone has similar performance as entire PS4 CPU

Effectively They can use the audio chip to do other things

rainslacker2175d ago

They can, but it doesnt have the same IO throughput, so its use for general purpose tasks would be limited. There are things that could be done, but GPU compute is probably a better option in most cases.

StormSnooper2177d ago

They actually included a separate cpu for sound, thus taking the burden off of the main cpu. Gotta give it to Sony, they are giving the devs no excuse not to use the tech. They must feel it’s something special if they went through all the trouble.

IRetrouk2177d ago

It's a stripped down AMD gpu, it can actually lend any additional unused power to the gpu/cpu, while also taking away tasks from the cpu like you say, smart design, our games are going to sound crazy next gen, cant wait.

Kribwalker2176d ago

both Sony and MS are using dedicated audio hardware, both won’t need the CPU to process audio.

More resources for devs is always a good thing

PyroMessiah862176d ago (Edited 2176d ago )

The downvotes for staying facts here xD XSX does indeed have a dedicated audio chip :)

Chris122176d ago

Pure fact downvoted by the usuals. Both consoles have great hardware for next gen, although nothing will stop MS having the most powerful one.

mandingo2176d ago

Yea surprised they haven't renamed the website to playstationfansonly.com

PyroMessiah862176d ago

@mandingo yep it's certainly going that way. Mods don't do a thing in Xboxs favour
